ex-CITED BY the way my arrangement keeps getting lost

... I have re-arranged the CITED BY section on numerous occasions only to have Logos automatically re-arrange my collections in alphabetical order

After I arranged Cited by… in the order I wanted, I saved it as part of a Layout. Thereafter, it almost stays as I left it. The except is that everytime I create a new collection, L4 adds it to the end of the Cited by… list.

I just tried it, and I have different arrangements for two different layouts. I am not sure that you can have different collections in the list however. It appears that if I remove a collection in one layout, it is also removed in other layouts. I can only rearrange the order in which they appear.

Another, perhaps easier, way to accomplish what you want is by using Favorites. Set up the Cited By tool as you choose, then drag its tab to Favorites. It will remember the setup. Clicking on it in Favorites will open to the passage you saved it with, but if you saved it with the link set set to Follow you can scroll in the text and it will jump to that place.

This way you can set up different Cited By arrangements for different uses. Once in Favorites you can rename them to keep them straight. You can also drag them from Favorites to the menu bar to create a shortcut.

I like Mark's idea too. That may have some other applications for me - I will look into that in the near future.

I do have 2 more issues that have come up while experimenting:

1] I have some duplicates in the CITED BY list (I am suspecting this might be a tagging mistake so I am going to check this first)

2] I have SO MANY mytags: *.* That it takes me quite a while to drag my books up and down the CITED BY list. Should I use some other method of organizing? Does this create other issues (slowing Logos down at all)? I wish I could HIDE some of the resources in this list so it would be easier to navigate.

ALso (off topic but,) there are some other areas where I suspect it will be needful to be able to HIDE or COLLAPSE categories in different places. One that comes to mind is the visual filters icon on menu bars. Sometimes there are so many nOTES or Visual Filters, etc, that this could soon get unwieldy. Just a thought.

You don't have to use them all in Cited By. I might use 1 mytag because it is not covered by a Collection and I only use some of my collections. Choose the combination of mytag and Collections that avoids duplication of resources eg. choose a few collections and then add mytag's if you need to list other resources. Also, you can use the little arrow (below) in the list to keep collections closed until you want to see their content.

Thanks again. I appreciate that, but I am talking about the dropdown menu from the TAB where you manage the Collections (and mytags:) This is what is time consuming for me everytime I need to re-arrange my Collections.

BTW - I also found (which you probably already know) that Right-Clicking on those little arrows allows you to Expand All or Collapse All. Very useful. I really love the Cited By tool. It really helps me in my work.

I have 80 Collections and 122 mytags:

I am thinking that these help me to get more out of Logos. Mytags are useful in forming Collections and the Collections are great in the CITED BY section. I even have individual books / small subsets of Collections that are arranged in Cited By. It brings so many things into close proximity.

What is the down side? Will this create problems that offset its usefulness to me?

If you haven't noticed any background processing (L4 searches the library catalog to determine the resources in your dynamic collections) then you just have the issue of scrolling through lists of collections and tags in various menus.

For the most part I use many of the collection strings provided a while back by Mark Barnes. They were the basis of alot of my collections. Not all the collections that I made are as dynamic, but they serve me well. I will have to look at specific Collections later in the day as I am pressed for time now. I'll get back to you on this, but I don't think it is bogging down my work.

I use mytags in Cited By and when I want to find similar books without scrolling through my whole LIBRARY. I have tags like: Greek Grammar, Prayer, Discipleship, Theology, Messianic, Jewish Background, Systematic, Apologetics, Baker Exegetical, Carson, Counselling, Leadership, LXX, Synoptic, Temple, UBS, Yeshua, etc. These help me to search my Library easier. I don't have to remember ALL the books I have on a particular subject; merely search the category where I think I may have placed it. I can usually find what I want right away. [BTW - Recently, I have been using Favorites for this, and it is MUCH easier - I may do away with the mytags in time.]
