    Hi Bradley

Thanks for the details - integer-overflow issues can be a pain (assuming this to be what happened here)

Just got off the phone with technical support.  Their suggested method of repair is to HIDE the Holman Christian Standard Bible and then issue the command REBUILD BIBLE INDEX.

A replacement file is imminent - originally scheduled for yesterday - and will be available when SR-4 is released for LOGOS.  Once we have SR-4, we can UNHIDE the Holman Christian Standard Bible.

I scanned the forums for this solution, but did not see it posted.  Hopefully, it will not be needed for much longer.

    Blessings,
    Floyd

Please note that you can also (temporarily) hide the HCSB by dragging it from your Library to the Hidden Resources section of your Tools/Program Settings panel (all the way to the bottom of that panel).

For Windows 7 the resource director is found here:

    C:\Users\[name]\AppData\Local\Logos4\Data\[random characters]\ResourceManager\Resources

For Vista it will be very similar. For XP, it will be pretty close, but you should still be able to figure it out.

The AppData folder is hidden. You will have to enable viewing hidden files, folders in your Windows Explorer to see it.

he HCSB has 65,560 hits for "the", which triggered the bug; this is the first resource in our 12,000+ book library to expose this problem.)

The old one has 63658 hits! Wonder where the extras went in the new version!?

As a result of the crash, we've created additional automated verifications to ensure this doesn't happen in the future.

    That's a good move.

Indexer crashes when trying to merge indexes after the most recent resource update.

Logos 4.2a SR-4 has been published (to the stable channel) to solve this problem.

I had the initial problem and removed the HCSB resource to stop Logos from crashing. Like some others have encountered, Logos is not automatically downloading the HCSB file after the fix. Attached are my log files so maybe someone can figure it out.

    Thanks,

Brent (running Logos 4.2a SR4 on PC)

Thanks for the logs. I can see that they contain "Resource 'LLS:1.0.351' is out of date." (good) but then "No updates are available." (bad).

While we look into this, you can download and scan http://resources.assets.logos.com/lls_1.0.351/2010-12-06T22_09_20Z/HCSB.logos4 to get the resource back.

Apparently I'm having the same problem. I also deleted the HCSB in order to get Logos to run. I have downloaded the update but I can't find the Holman Christian Standard Bible in my library and I should have it.  I downloaded the .logos4 resource listed above and copied it into my resource folder. Then I restarted Logos but still can't find the HCSB.  Is there a step I'm missing?

    Steve,

Placing the file in the resource folder is not enough for the Logos to "see" it. Put the file in a temp folder somewhere, then run "scan C:\Path\To\HcsbFolder" from the Logos command bar to import it.

    Hope that helps,

    Brent

Instead of copying it into the resources folder, copy it into a temporary folder (e.g., C:\Temp), then enter

    scan C:\Temp

into the command box at the top of the program to scan that folder and import the resources in it. Does doing that cause the program to find the resource. (Also, please check that it's not hidden in Tools > Program Settings > Hidden Resources.)

Hits in the "General Note" field increased from 5,162 to 7,610. This could be from new notes being added, or, since the text of the note is indexed everywhere the note popup occurs, a slight rewording in the notes could result in a large increase in search hits throughout the Bible.

If you're really interested in finding out, you could print/export the "HCSB Bullet Notes™" section (after Revelation) from the old HCSB, then compare it to the new one when it's released.

    Interesting:

    General note  7610 - 5162  = 2448

    All Text       65560 - 63658 =  1902

I would expect the two to be the same ...it implies a decrease in footnotes that are not Bullets!

    Confusing definitions

footnote - text that appears in a footnote

generalnote  - the text of the pop-up indicator for a note and the text of the note itself

footnote:the has 7400 results and includes generalnote:the as can be seen from  footnote:the ANDEQUALS generalnote:the  (5162).

footnote:the NOTEQUALS generalnote:the  (2238) gives results for conventional footnotes (not Bullets) ie.  ab c

Unashamed Plug:  we still need those field names in the resource.

All my resources "appear" to be president. Honestly I don't feel like checking 1,010 different resources one at a time just to be sure. The problem is that whenever I run a basic search, I still get the yellow ribbon saying that my search results would be inaccurate while the program is indexing. The problem is that the program has been indexing since April 12. Is there a way to to undo an update And go back to a previous version? It was working just fine before they "fixed" something. [:O] Oy, I tell ya.

I am a HUGE fan of Logos 4, but this last particular update and indexing has been an ajor-may ain-Pay in-yay e-thay utt-bay ..... OY

Honestly I don't feel like checking 1,010 different resources one at a time just to be sure.

The problem is with the HCSB (Holman Christian Standard Bible). Move that resource to the Hidden resources section, at the bottom of your Settings panel (Tools>Settings). Just drag it from your Library and drop it in that section.

Then restart Logos4. Indexing should resume and finish properly.

If that doesn't work enable diagnostic logging (be sure to carefully follow all the directions), and post all the logs. You may want to start a new thread, instead of burying the issue here, since if it's not the HCSB, it's not the issue this thread is about. Below are the instructions for doing that:

Enable logging by following all the instructions in the link below. Run Logos and let the indexer run until it crashes. Do not restart Logos before posting all logs here for review (see link below for how to upload logs).

I think we have identified and fixed this problem internally; 4.3 Beta 4 should contain a fix for this issue.
