Need Help
II have my desk top computer "layout"
setup one way and I noticed my laptop follows along with the same layout. Is there
anyway to avoid this? In other words I would like to setup my laptop "layout"
impendent of my desktop. Is this
possible?

To stop this you'd have to stop them from syncing...because you pay for your logos license....but the machines to run it are innumerable....
There is no way to sync selectively.

But I think there could be two layouts on each of the machines, e.g. one named "Laptop", one "Desktop".

That's exactly what I do. But you have to save them with that name. Do you know how to save a layout?

It would not cause problems, per se. However, you wouldn't be able to sync your notes, or other user generated material. Also you'd miss updates to the program and to resources.
It's not that hard to create and save a named layout for your laptop and your desktop. Is there a reason you're not doing that, or that isn't working for you?

Not unless you do one of two things:
1.) Never sync.
2.) rename all of your layouts accordingly as has been suggested.
My wife and I just accept the fact that our stuff will mix as we are piggybacking on one license...

there be someway to do this?Yes! Create your layout the way you want it, and save it with any name you wish to give it. She can do the same. You can also have your laptop instance of L4 setup to boot directly to your last open layout, though I still recommend saving your named layout whenever you make major changes.

BTW, I have a laptop with a much smaller and narrower screen than my desktop. So I have my laptop instance of L4 set up with a two column approach, while I have my desktop setup with a three column approach. It's pretty simple to go between the two, since I have them both setup to load the last layout on startup (set that on the homepage, bottom left, "Customize").

there be someway to do this?If Logos 4 is often being used on both computers at the same time, good idea to have individual Logos libraries. Syncing information between Logos 4 installations at same time provides opportunity for item(s) to duplicate. My wife and I have own Logos libraries (same base package with different additional resources); Thankful for Bob Pritchett's licensing insights => Logos’ EULA—Single user
If "Use Internet" is set to No, then can use commands "Update Now" and "Update Resources" to manually update program and resources. Also, offline mode would allow Logos installations to have different library priorities and collections. Need to be careful about clicking sync arrows (could accumulate lots to sync).

Don't the user preferences like this sync between installations, too? EDIT: I mean, if you shut down Logos on one machine in one layout and then boot it up on another machine, won't it open up to the last layout you were using, regardless of which machine it was on? I suppose I could just try it and see. CORRECTION: It works! Duh. You learn something new every day.

The 'LEGAL' stand is One License for One user. [You need a license and your wife needs one of her own] But reading between the lines what I got out of Bob Pritchett's comments was that they [Logos] can not figure out how to say 'one paster level usage per license'. [not being a lawyer] as I read his comments - if neither you nor your wife is a pastor, if neither you nor your wife is writing Bible Studies, if neither you nor your wife is writing a book where you will be using Logos hours and hours per day then one license for the both is accepted [not legal but accepted] as you are not going to be using Logos as much as One Pastor would. [IMHO] If you fit inside the using Logos less then the One Pastor level then spend the money on the next level up rather then two lower level licenses. [we need a survey on how much each user uses Logos per week - if our usage is a lot less then the mid point then our other half is free??] [But you have to put up with crashing into each other] [my usage is about 16 hours per week and I am not a pastor nor lesson writer nor book writer and 2 of those hours is me doing my wife's research for her]

Depends on marriage relationship whether crashing into one another in Logos 4 is a good idea. Proverbs 30:18 has some wondrous observations.
