Tip: Creating your own Custom Go Box

See link below for the new wiki page showing how to build a Custom Go Box
A. This my main Logos 4 window (shrunk down for illustration).
B. When i right click here i can open my Custom Go Box window in a floating window.
C. This is my Custom Go Box window. The tools & Bibles open to the location that i was reading in my Bible in the main window.
You can create your own Go Box window and open it from your main window without disturbing your main window (click on the link above the picture to see how). Unlike going to the Home page and having your layout erase when you use the Go box in the Home page, you can easily pop up the custom Go box as you need it while leaving your layout undisturbed in the main window.
You can create as many Go Box window layouts as you like for various study helps.
Wiki page added to show you how to do this: http://wiki.logos.com/Creating_your_own_Custom_Go_Box

Such creativity
I like the fact that you showed "HOW" you create the shortcut determines whether it follows your current study or opens to a previous point.
I have already created a couple of my own "Custom GO Boxes" following your examples. Thank you for sharing!

Dear Brother,
I am lost as to howto accomplish this. I would like to see more detail or a wiki page dedicated to this.
Thanks.

Thanks Steve! I have followed the steps and made one. It does not come up when I use the Go Box on the home page. Should it have?

It will only come up when using Favorites and right clicking on the folder, then in the drop down menu selecting Open all in a floating window. The 'Go Box' was an analogy. See the section of the wiki How to use your new Custom Go Box
i like the fact that the items that are opened follow my current Bible position. i built one which opens several of my Study Bibles and it opens all of them to my current Bible passage.

Brilliant, Steve. Thank you for sharing this!
I like the fact that Logos has enough rich features that it gives people the flexibility to come up with all kinds of creative ideas of how to use it like this.

Steve,
this is great! thanks for taking the time to share and make such a great Wiki page about it....
I also noticed that if you drag the "my go box" folder to an empty area it will open several resources or features at once...that's handy too...

I am sometimes amused (or embarrassed) to remember my first reaction to L4 in Nov 09. I complained that L4 was trying to force me to study the Bible using someone else's methodology and that I did not like being forced into a box.
I am thrilled to now know how very wrong I was. [:D]
Steve, thank you for your part is proving just how very wrong I was. [Y]

Hmm - I seem to have some problems using this on a Mac. None are real big deals - just minor annoyances.
First,
the layout doesn't save. So, everytime I "open all in floating
window" it shows in tabs, not in a nice layout. Not sure if that is
Mac specific or not though.Second, the Passage Guide and
Exegetical Guide do not automatically load. They show up as a tab with
the scripture reference listed in their respective search boxes, but I
have to click on that search box and hit enter to load each of these
guides.Third, the Passage Analysis (with morph river, etc) loads
up with John 3:16, not with the scripture I started with. Happens
everytime.Pastor, seminary trustee, and app developer. Check out my latest app for churches: The Church App

Hi Rev Chris,
Yes there are some annoyances, i have many months ago requested a superior feature which would encompass some of these issues. see this User Voice suggestion http://logos.uservoice.com/forums/42823-logos-bible-software-4/suggestions/1035553-floating-window-layouts

Great - I added my vote (after taking one away from something else to free up a vote!)
Here's another layout customization suggestion that I'd like to see and which I added to uservoice:

Had to cancel my votes on two other UserVoice items, but I gave three votes to this one. Thank you Steve. [Y]

Thanks for all your work Steve
A while back I did something similar, which I called my ultimate layout, which had a series of floating windows saved in favorites. I deleted some of them and used your improved method to get tools and resources into favorites. One observation about commentary series. It is helpful to have your Bible in your primary layout with a linkset first. Then when you open your floating window and set the commentary to the same linkset, it will jump to the correct volume, assuming the set includes a volume on the Bible book you are studying. May God richly bless you.
