S L O W and VERY UNRESPONSIVE

I've recently moved from Windows to Mac. The experience has been very positive for me. My productivity is up and my computer problems (software and hardware) have dramatically decreased; that is, until I installed Logos 4 for Mac. Is this just me or are there others in this community that struggle with Logos 4 Mac and its unresponsiveness? The program consistently runs slow on my super-duper iMac 27 - a computer that I use for some heavy duty video editing. Over the years I've grown used to Logos (a user since the early 90's); however, these days, the program just is not the same in quality. Searching, highlighting, all of this is very sluggish and just flat-out annoying to work with. I'm seriously looking at "downgrading" and reinstalling the Libronix system under Parallels; I don't know. Is anyone else having these problems? OR again, is this just me? Would appreciate some help in trying to make Logos 4 Mac work well; work fast; work like the old LIbronix system use to work. Help.

Welcome. Logos 4 Mac isn't as responsive as the Windows product. It's much better than it was originally and is improving: it's nearly twice as fast as it was then last year in my opinion. You should look at the wikis for getting better performance on your Mac.

I use a little Mac Mini that's barely spec, but I can work on it. I prefer to use it on a PC that I run via Remote Desktop if I have to do a lot because some features work better on it such as Notes. On the Mac, if you pay attention to some details, you'll find it is much more usable.

Other community users = Yes; many Logos 4 Mac and Mac Beta forum threads discuss Logos 4 Mac performance issues (e.g. Any progress being made in Logos Mac performance? , Results from comparing scrolling in various resources/files (plus an extremely slow startup) , Awful scrolling , Even slower scrolling now ... , Finally found the Cause for Slow Logos4 Mac , BUG: Newly applied highlighting takes up to 10-15 seconds to appear, 100% CPU , Scrolling: Reverse Interlinear Bible, which can be very slow at times , ...) Logos developers appreciate repeatable slow performance examples that become test cases for code improvement.

Logos 4.2a on Mac included several performance improvements over previous Logos 4.0b stable version; anticipating more performance improvements in Logos 4.3 (e.g. Highlighting & History) plus better Feature Parity between Logos 4 on Mac & PC. Thankful can participate in Logos 4 Beta Program (Beta bugginess is not for everyone: fixing some bugs spans several Beta releases).

Logos 4 Mac wiki page has Need Logos 4 PC feature? section with links to configuration tips for running Logos 4 in Windows in virtual machines or natively (via Boot Camp). Logos 4 Mac page also includes: "Three Logos 4 Mac menus do not follow historic Mac conventions: File, Guides, and Layouts - recommend quick click to display menu (may take seconds to display), then can right OR left click on menu items."

Personally puzzled by diversity of computer configurations. On similar Mac & PC computers, Logos 4 is usable for some while frustrating for others. Several Logos 4 users have shared their usage tips, which are linked in Slow Performance section on Mac Troubleshooting page plus many tips for improving Mac OS X performance (e.g. enable 64 bit kernel).

Thankful visual filters to highlight Logos Greek Morphology are usable in Logos 4 on Mac & PC (can take a few seconds to highlight Greek or English Bible text using older hardware).

Observation: personally finding Logos 4 search to be faster than Libronix 3.0g plus more articles to read in my Logos 4 library. Also like Logos 4 guide improvements over Libronix 3: Bible Word Study, Passage Guide, and Exegetical Guide. Thankful can install Libronix 3 and Logos 4 PC in Windows together; can use Libronix 3 to read older PBB's (not usable in Logos 4) and Vocabulary Lists (can copy selected text for a word, then paste into Logos 4 for Bible Word Study that can show Greek word translation in many English versions). Have option to edit Notes in Libronix 3, then import to Logos 4 PC, can sync to Logos 4 Mac.

If I am going to use Logos for over 10 minutes (in other words most of the time) then I tend to run it via parallels at the moment. I just find it much smoother and faster.

That said the Mac version is getting better with each release - but for me it still not as good as running it via parallels.

I should have said, that is Logos 4 that I run via Parallels - so therefore it is not a downgrade doing this (though it would be nice not to have to)

I do also have the old one (v3) but only use this to look at some pbb books I have - nothing else.

The biggest boost I found for speed and unresponsiveness is running your Mac in 64-bit kernel, even though Logos isn't a 64 bit programme (according to Activity Monitor)
