Which To Purchase iPad or Android Based?

You have convinced me that what I want is an IPad. Now, whether to wait and see if the IPad 3 is going to be an extreme jump in technology and price over the IPad 2.
Welcome to the forums, Christopher. I'm hoping that the price of the iPad 3 will be the same as the current iPad 2 and the iPad 2 will drop some. It's worth waiting two or three months to me. I'll be surprised if the iPad 3 is a huge jump in capability, but I'm really hoping the display is a significant improvement. We'll see.
Just to balance what is being said here, I use the iPad2 for a lot of reading, Bible, books, The Times, Flipboard. On reading Bill's post I had a look at the text in Logos for the NIV 2011 and could not make out any pixilation - with big lens of my magnifying glass I could just make out the grid. It took the strong section of the glass to show it clearly.
I think for most people the reading experience on the iPad is better than satisfactory.tootle pip

i have an ipad 1 and my screen is as good if not better than my mac book... yes I can still tell that I am not there in person, but it is very good... I am not saying that you should not wait to see if there are more/better features to come on the ipad 3, but the screen... it would not be a deal breaker... it is as good as any computer you have seen.

Last summer, my son-in-law (who has a MacBook) and I went into an Apple store to check out the iPad 2. The display of the iPads was gorgeous, but the fonts were not crisp. Neither of us was impressed on that end. Perhaps I'm spoiled by my e-ink Kindle and now my iPhone. There is no comparison, in my opinion, between the crispness of the iPhone's Retina display and that of the iPad or other tablet and computer displays.
This quote from a PCWorld review (March 2011) of the iPad 2 mirrors my take:
Text, in particular, is a sore point for me: The pixelation and
fuzziness in many fonts--including the font for the icon labels, and the
standard text I see in the Web browser or in iBook--borders on
unbearable, in the same way that I cringe when I go back to my iPhone
3GS after using my iPhone 4. I imagine that some of these complaints
could be solved by better antialiasing in the iOS operating system to
compensate for the lack of native resolution, but no such tweak is
evident in the version of iOS shipping on the iPad 2 (iOS 4.3).Again, this is my perspective and yours may be very different. The rumored display for the iPad 3 is supposed to be much improved over the iPad 1 and 2. For my reading experience, I hope it is so. If the display of the iPad 2 works for someone, then well and good! I just didn't want to spend several hundred dollars on a tablet whose next iteration is supposed to have a much improved display. And I do understand that the next greatest is always around the bend. [;)]

Just posted at GottaBeMobile about how the iPad 3 or whatever Apple calls it was supposedly spotted at CES 2012 by someone from the website iLounge. If what he saw was the iPad and he's not fibbing, then it won't be a major upgrade but that two things will be changed - slightly thicker and likely the iPhone 4S camera along with a better display. I'd bet this was going to be the case anyway. A minor upgrade like the iPhone 4S was for the iPhone 4 rather than like the iPad 1 to the iPad 2. I also would bet that it will be here by the end of March or early April.

I saw that also, Kevin, and I suspect you're right.

Hi Bill

I do have an iPhone and for the first time I did a comparison between the two - you are right the iPhone's much smaller text is crisper. However more importantly I did a comparison with a printed (admittedly inexpensive) edition of the Bible and found that the iPad was sharper by far.
While you are right that the next version of iPad may have a better display - the existing one is quite adequate - and better in many cases than traditional print in its display capabilities.
People may well chose, at this juncture to wait for the new iPad but those who have been waiting a year or more have missed out on a great reading experience in the meantime.
No sooner than iPad 3 is in the shops there will emerge pundits who suggest waiting for iPad 4 but I think it is a case of rejecting the very good for the not noticeably better.

I own an Acer Iconia A500 Tablet which has 16GB or storage along with 1GB of video ram and you can purchase up to 32GB of storage on a microSD Card. It has taken the place of my iPod and Kindle. Soon it might replace my laptop. The price is about the same as the iPad 2. For me, I would love to have an iPad, but, my Acer Tablet is okay right now. I will wait to see what other updates are coming for the Android Logos, but, for work, my tablet is okay for what I need Logos to do. Wish I could see my Bible Reading Plan on Android, but, I can always print off my iCalendar and carry it with me. Hope to be MS free very soon and totally using my iMac for everything at home. Either way you choose I am sure you will be happy and if you are thinking about the iPad, then, I would wait to see if the new iPad 3 has any significant changes to warrant a price increase and if the iPad 2 comes down even $25-$50 I would get that.

At various times, MicroCenter has offered $ 50 off of new iPad 2 and Android tablets.
Likewise looking forward to iPad 3, which should increase discount (already $ 80 to $ 130) for refurbished iPad's, which have same warranty and packaging as new => http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/ipad

Thanks, I wasn't sure if the refurbished iPad's had the same warranty, so that is something I would consider. After looking at all the iPad 2 has to offer, I see it as a viable extension of my iMac at home. So, now I have to decide on the whether the 16gb or 32gb would be enough. But, I would say if you are a Mac user, then the iPad 2 makes better sense.

It is also rumored that the iPad 3 will have the ability to use a microSD card for storage as well. This came from a Best Buy Employee and is only a rumor, but, if true it would be a welcome change so you could purchase the 16gb model with additional space on the card. The card would also allow files to be moved to your Mac at home. Nothing from Apple on this and I stress...only a RUMOR.

this will never happen and coming from a BB employee you can almost be certain it's false as few of the sales people at BB that I meet know that much about tech products.
