Andrew Dickson White wrote "The History of the Warfare of Science with Theology in Christendom" in the years before the first Great War when Darwin's theory of evolution of species began to be extended into a grand evolutionary soteriology of mankind. The book is a classic conflict thesis, pitting the advancing modern sciences against the past failures of theology.
White's extensively footnoted 2-volume work references a wide range of material available in Logos 4. Among the copious footnotes are many classical works found in the Perseus collections, works by Eusebius, Augustine, Aquinas, Bede and other prominent theologians including Luther, Lightfoot, Paley, Calvin, Wesley, Farrar, and Strong, and other renowned theologians of his time. He offers many scriptural passages and uses the Septuagint and the various apocryphal works as well. Many of the chapters of this book appeared in "Popular Science Magazine" prior to its publication in 1896.
The original source of the text of this Logos Personal Book was derived from a Westminster Select Library limited edition set (numbered 361 of 1000).

Wow, very nice job turning that into a PB. Lots of work getting all the VolumePage entries in there, and thorough internal linking. You even went to the trouble to look up which verse was being referred to in such examples as this: "he supported this from the words in the twenty-sixth chapter of Job, 'He bindeth up the waters in his thick cloud, and the cloud is not rent under them.'" Thank you!

Well the workman knows the weaknesses and this document has a few.
Here are the problems I encountered.
1) The author used a format for noting scripture that occasionally is misread.
For example we would write John 3:16 or John 3.16.
White would write it: John 3, 16 (a comma rather than a colon or period).
Occasionally this gets automatically converted to John chapter 3 and John chapter 16.
I haven’t worked a way around this problem (although once in a while I changed the comma to a period t make it work).
2) I found rather than using the NORMAL template in MSWord, the NO SPACING template worked better – not adding the extra space between paragraphs.
The problem with the NO SPACING template is that it translates into Logos4 into a small font.
Increasing the size in the MSWord template or MSWord document was touchy and produced either an extra large lettering or the small lettering you now see in the present converted Logos4 document.
3) I was unable able to tag for authors that I didn’t have in my library.
Aquinas, Owen, Augustine etc.
I am not in school and have never qualified for a student discount. Sadly Logos has priced me out of these.
As a side note I initially used Darwin’s “Origin of Species” and “Descent of Man” to practice using the Personal Book program. In this document they are tagged to my personal book and will not direct you to the Logos4 edition of “Origin”.
4) I’ve been unable to find a few of the authors quotes, particularly those he uses of John Calvin. I am suspicious that these quotes are originally of White rather than Calvin.

Here is a slightly modified version. I was able, through macros, to change the Font to Times Roman and just the 12.5 point text to 11 point. When I compile this, the font size initially, and the scaling of the font with the slider in Logos, works correctly, as far as I can see.
See what you think of this.
I can't figure out how to change the comma to a point in the scripture references, because the chapters are in Roman Numerals, which makes them just letters and hard to detect. Just searching via macro for comma, any number of spaces, and a number hits all the VolumePage tags. So if anyone is bright enough to describe how to find the scripture references I can change them!

Thanks Dominick, I sort of liked the old-timer font but Times New Romans is more ecumenical I guess.
I've fixed a few links but dropping a jot makes me a bit concerned about heaven and earth passing.

This book contains one of my favorite quotes. Vol. 1, Page 9.
Dr. John Lightfoot, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cambridge, and one of the most eminent Hebrew scholars of his time, declared, as the result of his most profound and exhaustive study of the Scriptures, that "heaven and earth, centre and circumference, were created all together, in the same instant, and clouds full of water," and that "this work took place and man was created by the Trinity on October 23, 4004 B. C., at nine o'clock in the morning."
My personal birth took place on October 23 also, but at 4:15 p.m. So I fancy that although Adam was created at 9 a.m., God didn't breath into him until 4:15 p.m.

Here is an updated file. I just opened it as a DOC, and did "Save As" as a DOCX file. It compiles fine for me.

I can't figure out how to change the comma to a point in the scripture references, because the chapters are in Roman Numerals, which makes them just letters and hard to detect. What I do in such circumstances is temporarily change all the instances that I don't want my macro to hit into something else that won't match my search string. E.g., write a macro to find all VolumePage tags and change the comma between the numbers to $$ (something you know for sure will not be found anywhere else in the document so you can easily change it back again with a Replace All). Then write a macro that looks for the pattern [0-9], @[0-9] (you will still need to manually step through each one to be sure you don't accidentally change the few occurrences of dates, for example, but there will be a lot fewer false hits once you've temporarily gotten the VolumePage entries out of the way). What I do is I record the macro from the point of having just found an occurrence, and I'd go through the steps manually that it takes to replace that comma and succeeding spaces with a colon or period, then find next occurrence and stop recording the macro. Assign it to an easy keystroke, and just do it over and over from the beginning of the document, keeping an eye open for false hits, until you get to the end.
