Interlinear Translation Editor addin?

For a while now ive been chasing down a good interlinear editor for my translations, and sofar the one which seems to best suit my needs is the Logos ITE: http://www.logos.com/support/article/649

However, i cant figure out how to get it at all. My previous college had Logos4 and Libronix in the library, but no sign of the ITE, and my current version of Logos 4 doesnt have it at all.

Is it available as a separate plugin akin to the Sentence Diagramming addin?

I think it was part of some addin for Libronix, but I haven't been able to figure out which one. I don't have this document type available myself in my installation of Libronix. I'll ask someone I know at Logos who works on interlinears.

I called and asked Customer Support about it, and the guy I spoke to asked around among his colleagues. It seems to have been something that was maybe in beta at one point but never actually released, and in any event it is no longer available. He says we might want to request it for Logos 4. He also said he was going to have someone take that article down because it's misleading. I have downloaded the video and archived a copy of it to provide as evidence to Logos in the future that they were at one point working on such a thing, and it would be nice if they resurrected it for Logos 4.

I apologize for my snarky response. It did feel sort of as though you were asking me to organize the junk on my hard disk for you personally or something (mine is a mess and it's nobody else's business how messy it is). It's just that there's all kinds of random stuff up there on my Screencast account, not all for Logos, and not even all relevant to any public audience at all. It's like my personal cloud storage for all kinds of junk videos. It really wasn't ever meant to be perused, but of course I know it's public so people can do so if they want to. Most of them are total junk, really, trust me. Mostly demos to Logos to explain a bug report I sent them, etc.

I suppose I could make one Logos folder and put the Logos ones in there. There, OK, I've done it and it only took 10-15 minutes. I was thinking it would be more time consuming than that.

I separated out the bug report ones from the ones that were in response to a question someone asked on the forum (to the best of my recollection). But even those folders contain some goofs, stuff I was recording that didn't work the first time and I didn't bother to delete it. I've done my best, but I really don't have time to make it a nice browsing experience for everyone.

Again, I apologize for my initial unpleasant response. I was just being snappy because I'm already procrastinating too much this week, am supposed to be working on my sermon for this Sunday, and didn't need yet another excuse to go off and so something for someone that I didn't really believe NEEDED to be done. But now that you've made me realize what a jerk I was being, I needed to do it to make amends.

This addin was never available publicly, it was only used by contractors working on projects for Logos. We had the video up to demonstrate the software for them, I didn't know the video was actually publicly available. I'll see about removing the page to reduce confusion.

It seems that removing the vid might be closing the door after the horse is out. Obviously, interlinears are still being produced, which means the addin is available. Since it is available, and there is interest, it would seem appropriate for Logos to consider the desires of their customers, and maybe even make some money. I'm already considering how much this might be worth to me. And, IF it becomes part of 4.5b,c,d or 4.6, so much the better.

So, take down the vid if you must, but don't lose it. Corporate wisdom just might find a use for it with their customers.

The tool in question was designed for internal-to-Logos use only and for very specific tasks. It has never been publicly available.

We've learned a lot about how this stuff works. The place to deliver these sorts of features to a wide user base is not in this old, brittle and (trust me) tempermental LDLS3.x addin.

As I said above, we've learned a lot about these sorts of tasks. If (when?) we decide and are able to deliver features like the above to a wider base, then we will certainly apply these lessons.

If available I would buy it in a heartbeat. Seems to be better than SIL's FLEx and even Paratext.

But don't hold your breath. Logos will never offer it for sale, sorry to say.

I don't like any of the translations with RI:s that I have since before. But the RSV isn't perfect either and not the best translation. Logos is newer going to make a RI NT of the best translation. Logos doesn't come out with new RI:s very often, so it's not a big cost in the long run to take the ones that are interesting:

What about the NRSV! It actually has the Apocrypha also! Seems like a great choice to me!

Edit: I think there is a charge for the Interlinear to the Apocrypha??? Don't have time to check that out right now .....

I'm not that pleased with it! I think the RSV and REB are much better, especially the latter. Yes, they charge separately for the Apocrypha (I saw it when it was on pre-pub but had started to move away from it) and I think the REB Apocrypha is better except for parts of Sirach:

We are actively working on an Interlinear Editor for the current platform, primarily for internal use, but with an eye towards making it available to users, too. The new editor is much more capable than the one shown in the old video.

I think I'm buying the Catholic Practicum DVD which was scheduled to ship today - just have to email a person at Logos about the postage cost (haven't checked right now whether the date has been postponed) and it also has some tuition regarding interlinears. Perhaps combined with university studies I'm going to take I'll be able to use the add-in (and RI?) properly? If there even is a proper way especially when it comes to an RI:

Summary: absolutely, it's fair to charge for training videos - I just hope something could be done about postage costs in some cases (I'm not yet familiar with the postage costs from the US to different parts of the world, but I'm sure the real postage over here cost is not as high as Logos standard charge).

This is exciting stuff! Especially for Bible Translators. I would be DELIGHTED to see this replace the absolute necessity of using ParaTExt. Moooorre time has elapse, however, and I'm wondering whether it's worth holding my breath. [:|][:D]

Ah yes!...I can see it in my mind's eye: The Bible translator imports a ParaTExt project into his Logos translation environment, collaborates with SIL's FLeX and quickly creates an Interlinear and a RI Bible in the target language with super-extensive footnotes/translation-notes (NET style). The translator team could even make a multi-layered study Bible (think: FSB) in the target language. These Bibles and Study helps would all be in the Logos format and the translator could "donate" them to Faithlife in exchange for a super-affordable Mother-tongue X package that could be offered to believers/converts. Yes, I'm imagining a situation that would be win, win, win! Let's DO IT Faithlife! For the cause of the Kingdom!!!!! Ever onward!

It's interesting that when Bob asked for Logos7 ideas, no one cried out for interlinear support. I would have, but I forgot.

I'd think Logos7 with inter-language support for users would qualify for a 7.0 (compare to 6.0). I also think Logos should think beyond 'interlinear'. There's mucho things you can do with those word-connected text blocks. Powerful.

I agree Denise. (From a somewhat different standpoint, however). I have been tutoring new students who have been confused by the Reverse Interlinear Formulations.in that they have become moderately dependent on reading the Bible as if it were written in an English grammatical manner. Expecting a 1:1,or word for word direct translation.

I travel with a hefty Interlinear to show them that the English to Hebrew, or English to Greek translation is not 1:1. The Syntacticals, Propositionals have helped, but plain ability to struggle through an original language BHS, with the correct Nominals, Direct and Indirect Objects, participial phrases, and pronominal application has highlighted that the grasp of English is sometimes needed prior to understanding that a Reverse Interlinear is a tool, not a translation. Would be a load off of my tatty brief case. I use the daylights out of Shibboleth.

This is what I would call an AWESOME tool. However, we would still need the bridge from Paratext to Logos. Right now the Paratext markup means nothing to Logos and one had to do all the Logos Bible tagging manually. That is a lot of work!

It would be cool if this interlinear tool would have tagging functionality. And it would be great to make a community project for the classics (Perseus, Loeb, etc). In that way the existing tagging could be improved and be more useful.

Since tagging is very important for NOET, I am not sure why not making it top priority.
