Apostles' Creed - Latin
Just a quicky, but thought having a creed in the original language would be useful to some of you. Text is from wikipedia, which attributes it to the Latin Catechism of the Catholic Church. I briefly compared it with some other editions on line and the only differences I found were in capitalization (which post dates the creed itself) and many texts use "J" for "I", which while common in Latin texts produced for us moderns, is also a distinction from considerably later than the text itself.

Thanks so very kindly. The book is now finished. Nice to have it in Latin also. In fact, I think I (one of these days, eh?) want to revisit your .docx file and perhaps add the Greek text.

I asked our Council about getting a new computer for my pastor. Lo and behold! They did! His was ancient. Ran Logos 4 way too slow, and he fouind itdiscouraging. Now it purrs! So one of these days I'll get on my Suzuki 400cc Burgman MaxiScooter and take this and a few other to him at his office and have a nice visit. He'll appreciate this file also. *smile*

For tests - if it were True or False he would deduct every wrong answer from your score. For major tests, he permitted us an open book test. So, depending on how good our Latin and German was, we had it made! *smile* Lots of good memories. My wife was also his secretary in my final year in Seminary. He was pleased with her work (He WAS strict, eh?!!!) and gave her a farewell gift of 50 American Silver Dollars mounted on a presentation boad. She certainly felt honoured since she observed his rejecting of whole theses for a wrong punctuation point.
Anyway, thanks, Ken! Bless you for serving these Logos Forums so very well. You do, I believe, glorify our Gracious God. Now and again I say a few extemporaneous prayers for you for strength and Joy in your personal life.

The problem with a Greek version is that the Apostles' Creed is largely the work of the Western Church. I am not aware of any truly official Greek text for it. You are certainly free to modify and add to what I have - I do ask that you share it, though.
Thank you for the words of support. I have a great respect for those of you who went through the system when you did. You received a marvelous education from many great figures. And the language requirements you had back in the day! I am not quite useless in them, but the idea of reading and being tested on the confessions in Latin and German - esp. German in Blackface fonts - is something I would not be at all prepared for.
I have heard many Arthur Carl stories and certainly have heard that he was, uh, picky. But I have heard you learned your stuff with him. One of the hardest problems I had with considering joining LCMS was how Piepkorn was the FIRST target in the 70's purge. I just can't believe that he could have been the biggest problem...

Updated it by telling Word that the text is Latin. This enables Logos to know to use Latin dictionaries for it.

please forgive me, I am new to logos but I clicked on the link and it opens in a word doc. How can I see it in logos?

Personal books are a way for Logos to compile .docx files into the Logos system, so yes, it is a Microsoft Word file. The way you do this in Logos 4 is click on the Tools menu and pick "Personal Books" from under the Library heading. This should open up a window where you can "Add book". There you can name it whatever you want and then add the body file I provided. Then you can build the book.
Once you have done this, it is a book like other books in your library. For more info, please look to the FAQ at http://www.logos.com/support/windows/L4/Personal_Book_FAQ

Kenneth! *smile* I would love to set down and chat with you some time! I just don't understand some of what went on. Some simply had to be just pure "politics"! For example, right now Arthur Carl is a hero again in so very many circles. Actually, my wife got to know him well. I was married my last year of Seminary, and she found employment at the Seminary as secretary to a couple of professors including Arthur Carl Piepkorn. What rich experiences she had. She still can't believe how "strict" he was; however, he was utterly consistent and was so pleased with her that when I was on my way to my first call in the Ottawa Valley of Ontario in 1962, for a farewell gift he give her a framed presentation of 50 American Silver Dollars!
