If you have questions about Logos 4, you’ll find answers to many of them in our three FAQs:
If you don't find answers to your questions in the FAQs,
If you still can't find answers, please start a new thread in the appropriate forum. If another user doesn't beat us to it, we'll do our best to answer your questions as soon as possible.
Can this post be locked in place at the top of the forum for ready access. This is a time saver. I, and I suspect others, will be coming back to this post often.
Thanks
Larry
It is set to stick to the top for 3 months, so it should appear at the top when people navigate to the Logos 4 forum directly. We can keep it up longer than that if necessary.
thank you for this information. It answered many questions.
These special FAQs help. for the life of me I can't figure out why they aren't posted on the main support page and one has to go to the forums to find them. To me this is poor marketing and support. These FAQs finally said that my current resources will work with Logos 4. It was not at all clear before. It is still not clear and my questions have not been answered as to if I can purchase new resources (particularly for download) that will run under Logos 3. I also am mystified by an apparent requirement for 20 gigs of HD space for LOGOS 4 under WIN 7. To me this,if the numbers are correct , suggests a bloated program.
I have no intention upgrading to WIN 7 untl one of my computers actually dies so it does not seem that there is any reason to upgrade to Logos 4.
I would like to know that any new resources that I might buy will run under V3. I guess I will just wait and see what happens.
I have been happy with Logo/Libronix 3 and have encouraged friends to buy it but I do think that this launch could have been managed much better.
I can't figure out why they aren't posted on the main support page and one has to go to the forums to find them.
They are on the main support page and have been, though I just added the brand new one.
It is still not clear
Ask away. I'm happy to try to clear it up.
my questions have not been answered as to if I can purchase new resources (particularly for download) that will run under Logos 3.
Downloadable books and collections for the next several months will work on Logos 3 (and Logos for Mac 1) and Logos 4.
I also am mystified by an apparent requirement for 20 gigs of HD space for LOGOS 4 under WIN 7. To me this, if the numbers are correct, suggests a bloated program.
Nope. We're just giving you that much great content. Keep in mind that Platinum is 8GBs and that your index will be several GBs. If you have existing resources, which it sounds like you do, you're looking at even more GBs. 20GBs is a pretty conservative average. My Logos 4 folder has 88GBs of data in it, but that's with 10,000+ resources.
I don't understand how these are related. Logos 4 doesn't require Windows 7. It will run fine on Vista and XP SP3. There are lots of reasons to upgrade to Logos 4, even if you don't plan to switch to the Logos 4 engine quite yet. You can get hundreds of new books at incredible discounts and run the majority of them on Logos 3.
Any new resources that you buy will run on Logos 3. If that's not the case for future resources, we'll make that clear.
I do think that this launch could have been managed much better.
So do we. We were working around the clock to hit the deadline and would have loved more time. Thanks for your patience and understanding as we continue to make things better.
Phil,
Thanks (seems appropriate to say to y'all down south on the eve of the 4th Thurs of Nov.) for putting this up here and on the support page. These are very useful and will reduce the "traffic" on these forums. Some of the 1K and 2K guys must have been wearing out their keyboards responding to queries - there certainly are several FAQs.
Have a great holiday - y'all deserve it!
Chris

Is there such a thing as "The Logos 4 Guide for Logos 3 Users"? In other words, some kind of organized list of the features and function of L3 and how they are now mapped to, integrated in, and renamed within L4? Most of the tutorials and examples I've come across are geared for first-time users. Are there no materials devoted to assisting long-time L3 users to see the relationship between how things once worked versus now? The list of "new features' is so generic as to be of little benefit. Thanks.

Danlsom,
Try here if you haven't already looked at this:
http://sites.google.com/site/logos4wiki/home
Jon and Joan, I blogged about user-created videos today and have added a link to them in the original post in this thread. Thanks for the suggestion!
If you still can't find answers,
Thanks Phil, this is very helpful and will go along way to helping many. May I suggest that if someone orders an L4 DVD, that the links to these sites be included with the DVD as well as a strong encouragement to look at the links before installing...
As well, I would suggest (if not already done) that the website be very clear to anyone interested in purchasing,,,that they look at the FAQ before buying.
what if i do not wish to purchace more books, i already have the The Scholars edition and am happy, what is the most basic upgrade for what i have? the "Upgrade Discounter" has an upgrade to a "Portfolio Edition" costing over $2,000, i have no intention of purcahsing this.
I like the format of L4, what is the least upgrade available?

Edi,
You can simply get the L4 engine for free. http://downloads.logos.com/LBS4/LDLS4Installer/Logos4Setup.exe ou This will install and then download your L3 Scholars resources in L4 format (those that are and the rest in L3 format until they are converted) and then index them. You have to download them again, because they are in a different format and go to a different directory and are indexed on your machine.
Or you can get the crossgrade and get the basic new things designed for L4. Bob recommends you do this at least to get the most out of L4 without upgrading to Silver, Gold, Platinum or Portfolio.
You can read all that I just wrote, in Phil's words, in the last FAQ of the General FAQs, which is the purpose of this thread. I would suggest you read what's out there first.
Much appreciated, thank you Chris
Greetings,

I have been on the phone with Tech. support with no help fixing this. Does anyone know what is wrong?
Please email me with a fix if possible OK.

Are you running this as an administrator? This is required for 1st time installation.
Bob,
This indicates a problem with .NET or the Visual C++ Runtimes. You should first make sure that Vista is up-to-date with SP2. You should then try and download/install the following:
If you get error messages, this will help you to determine the source of your problem. If you don't, try Logos again - it should work if all this is installed properly.
I am new to the "forums" (my only two posts are in the "newbies" thread) and I have a couple of questions that I could not find on the faqs.
1. When L4 updates automatically to let me know that I have 4 new updates/resources; is there a way of telling what was updated?
2. How do you "start a new thread"?
Thanks - Mark Watson - a Logos user in Kentucky.
Thanks for the links. The videos are very helpful.
I still have the shortcut for Libronix on my computer after downloading Logos 4. Should I delete libronix? Does it take up additional unnecessary space?
DO NOT delete Libronix. If you want to you may uninstall it from Windows (big difference!).
But there are a few reasons to keep it (at least for a while):
1) Logos4 is still developing some of its functionality (see below for what's Missing, and a time table for seeing it in L4). If you need any of those things, keep Libronix for now.
2) If you need to install a pre-pub, or purchase a close-out CD from a 3rd party (e.g., Nelson) you will need to install it first to Libronix, before Logos4 will be able to pick it up.
3) You may be more familiar with how Libronix works, and it may save you some time initially to use Libronix. Eventually, most find that Logos4 is much, much easier to use and at the same time more powerful.
To save space, you could remove many of the resources that are duplicated in Logos4 (at least). The program itself doesn't take up that much room, the resources however...
I just loaded L4 yesterday and I'm glad I still have L3 on my system. Some of my things on L3 did not carry over and it looks like a long learning curve for me to feel comfortable with L4. In these times you probably have an excess of disk space and probably can afford to keep it on your system till you are comfortable with the new software.[quote
me too..
It's not really a long learning curve. You sort of sit there and get frustrated for a bit because it's different from Logos 3, and then it clicks! Watching the videos will really help it click.

Raymond, if it is any consolation to you, your reaction is very common even to the most extreme power users that we have on these forums. However, after an hour or two of using the programme, it began to click with me and the more I used it the more I didn't go back. I have L3 still loaded, but I have not run it since the day I installed my upgrade. Hang in there and if there is anything we can do to help, let us know. Don't forget to look at the wiki - http://wiki.logos.com for additional help as well. The wiki is changing daily and will likely cover an issue you might be having. if it doesn't, say something on here or feel free to edit the wiki yourself because sometimes having newcomers to the wiki helps us see things we have been missing.
Thanks; I had the same question re uninstalling Libronix; I'll hang on to it for a while.
Fenton, a Louisiana user.
I am just rereading all of the posts in the forums and wanted to ask about this statement. More specifically, "There are lots of reasons to upgrade to Logos 4, even if you don't plan to switch to the logos 4 engine quite yet." I have purchased the upgrade from L3 original languages to L4 original languages. It was 68 dollars. Am I still missing the L4 engine? What exactly is that?
I guess now would be as good as anytime to ask this question...If I was considering moving up to the scholar's L4, the only "good" time is now while the special upgrade prices are effective? I was hoping to be able to save money for now and go to Gold in a few months. Could I still get Gold at a later time and not put out the 1300 dollars for retail?
the copy of the multiple verses with auto.lookup in libronix 3 is not working in the logos 4 could you please tell me if there is any means I can get it.
Multiple verse copy should now work in L4.0a
In the command box type : show copy bible verses
Insert your multiple verses and click COPY.
I have been looking at Forums and FAQ's - as a disabled user with limited hand movement, I miss the following from L3:
Daily Bible Reading and Devotionals: dates are not current to the day when kept as Reading List in L4. The date created is the date saved for reading list which requires a fiddly reset every day. I have gone back to L3 for my daily reading using Love of God by Carson linked to ESV following McCheynes Reading Plan.
The mouse pad for scrolling pages needs to be available in L4...is it just my laptop?
The rest: study, searching and so on in really exceptional in L4.
Oh - also need Prayer List for L4
Colin Wright
Colin,
I didn't understand what you mean about devotionals, sorry. There is a bug (actually in .NET framework, not Logos) that prevents some mouse pad from scrolling pages. Bob has said he hopes it will be fixed by Q2 2010.
Mark
as a disabled user with limited hand movement
Hi Colin. Welcome to the Forums. Sorry to hear about your condition. We'll hold you up in prayer.
Colin, I'm not sure what you mean here. Do you mean that when you set up a reading list following McCheynes plan it breaks at the wrong place? Or something else?
See this thread: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/8134.aspx it is an issue with Synaptics scroll pads. There is a work around mentioned. I can't say if it works or not as I can't get access to Admin rights on a right click.
This is planned for Q1 (2 - 93 days??) 2010. See the Logos' webpage: http://www.logos.com/4/missingfeatures for a list of what is planned.
Hi Phil
I am not replying to the 4 FAQs - I feel that I have experienced enough facts about Logos 4.!
Are you employed by Libronix or do you have contacts there? I simply cannot get any response from customer support and I have had a succession of complaints with L4. L4a appeared to be an improvement - until the programme crashes started!
L4 crashes every time on boot up - "L4 experienced an error and needs to close".
The problem appears to be related to the Home Page - if I hold control & tell programme to open to a blank layout it works OK until I selct the Home Page icon. Then a blank Home Page appears & the programme wants to close,
So, I was just wondering if you have any insights.
Brian
L4 crashes every time on boot up -
A fix has been released for this. Type "update now" into the command bar to download this release.
BTW. Anyone with the Blue Logos image under their Avatar is a Logos employee.
Thanks heaps!
Problem fixed with update now - to get SR2'
This is all great...The FAQ's help. Buy why is Logos making me buy my books again?
Paul, once you buy a book from Logos you own the rights to use it, period. However, if you are asking about the upgrade prices, those are the costs to cover new books in the base packages.
Paul, we're not. See today's blog post for an idea of what new content you're getting for your money.
can someone help me? i received my logos 4 yesterday and i have been trying to install it with no success. i spoke to tech yesterday and they helped me and told me the software would take some time to install, but i still don't think it has installed. it keeps giving me a time expiration screen and to contact technical.
I am curious if after installing Logos 4 if I can delete 3 from my comp? Will it affect anything?
Removing Libronix from your machine should not affect Logos. However, keep in mind that Libronix can do some things that Logos 4 can't, keep it if you want those features. http://www.logos.com/4/missingfeatures
Don't delete L3, but you may uninstall it, if you wish.
HOWEVER, there are a few reasons to keep it for now:
If none of the above apply to you, and you are really, really sure you don't need it, you may uninstall it.
How can I find where to download the free Logos 4 engine download? I have looked all over the website. I thought that would be the best way to try it out and see if I like it.
Hi there.....you may already be working on this (updating pages etc. given the release was only today), but I thought I'd just make a note of it anyway...just in case.

I have L3 on my laptop. After downloading L4, some of my old books didn't show in my new library like the word biblical commentary (54vol.), and the purchased one like The Tabernacle: Shadows of the Messiah. Can you tell me pls how to retrieve my L3 library to L4 library?
Thank you,

Rodolphe, you may get more response by starting a new thread, rather than tagging onto an old one. But here are a few tips to get you started, based on common problems/solutions for the type of problem you're reporting:
If you have done all of this and you still have problems report back and we'll dig deeper.
Thank you Richard for your reply. I have tried all the above, and the books still not showing. Note that I am logging with the same login in both L3 and L4.
God bless you,
My homepage for logos 4 on my desktop is different from that of my laptop both are at home for usage. Why? how do I correct?
2 reading plans appear on the homepage for my laptop, how do I correct?
The "newspaper" content on the homepage is unique for each computer.
You can control what shows up in the blue "ribbon" by clicking on "Customize" on the lower left hand corner of the homepage. The top section will allow you to arrange and/or remove items from the ribbon.
Is there, or will there be a 'share this' tab for the regular, computer version of Logos 4, like there is for the Iphone/Itouch app?
Forgive me if this has been answered elsewhere; I have searched the site and forums to no avail.
I am not yet a Logos user, but have a question regarding base products and their component titles:
Q: When new titles are added to base products (as indicated with the "NEW!" icon in the comparison chart, are those titles included with the next point release for existing users? That is to say, if you buy a particular base package and the next week 10 titles are added to that base package, are those titles made available for you, free of charge, to add to your existing library?
Thank you for your time.
cRaig
If you are new to Logos then click Buy Now on http://www.logos.com/ to get the titles as listed. If that package is updated with NEW titles in the future you click on Upgrade Now to purchase them - they are not added free of charge.
To add to what Dave have said, Let's imagine you buy Logos 4 Scholars now, and in the future Logos 4.1 Scholars comes out with some new features and a slightly different set of resources. You'll be able to upgrade to 4.1 and get the new features free of charge. But you won't get any of the additional resources. For that, you'll have to pay an upgrade fee. (The same is true, by the way for Logos 5. It's not just point releases.)
I obviously can't predict pricing, etc. but these two blog posts explained what happened between Logos 3 and Logos 4, so will give you an idea of what to expect: http://blog.logos.com/archives/2010/01/upgrade_illustrated.html - it cost $128 to upgrade, for which you got 180 new resources.
For some time I have been looking for, but not finding a list which associates the file names in the resources folder with actual products from Logos. For example, after the recent update, I noticed a file with the name "PPLBBLENCYC" in my L4 resources folder dated 6/28/2010 . I attempted to find a book in the library of L4 which approximated that file name...but with no success.
I assume there must be a list somewhere on your site that associates a meaningful resource name with an abbreviated file name in the resources folder. I am interested in that association for all files in the resources folder that represent books displayed in my L4 Library list. I realize that some of the files might be sub-components of a particular feature of L4, rather than a particular book. Also, I realize there may be multiple books for a given resource which require separate files for each book. In my case, I am only interested in the specific "books" that are part of my package, and their abbreviated file names in my resource list. Can anybody help with this?
Thank you!
Wayne, if you type the filename into the L4 command box (the one immediately to the right of "Tools' on the top menu bar), the name of the resource will pop up. I did this with the letters above and found that it's from the Images from the People's Bible Encyclopedia.
If it isn't clear to you how to do that, with my directions above, let me know and I'll include a screen capture.
Thank you Richard. That worked perfectly for me. I appreciate your help!
I have Lpogos 4 with all the new Zondervan tiltes. I thought I had corrected my problem weeeks ago, but I am back sw=quare one.

Jim, I need to understand how you use the commentaries. Are they in separate tabs of a layout? Are they linked? How many are involved?
Do they disappear when you restart L4?
When you "leave over night" what were you expecting to happen?
Can you provide an image of your commentaries as they should be?
Jim, if you turn off the "Show home page at startup" option (on the Customize menu, which you'll find at the lower left of your Home Page), then Logos will remember your last layout when you shut it down and will open back up to where you left off. Otherwise it opens back up to the Home Page whenever you start it up, and then whenever you do a passage lookup, it opens just a default commentary. If you have a Layout you like, it's best not to use the Home Page to do your passage lookups. It just uses a default layout which you can't control. You can do a lot more with Layouts when you contruct them yourself.
Most users, once they've become comfortable with the Layout system in Logos, do not use the Home Page for launching their Bible studies. You might still use the Home Page once in a while to see what's new from Logos, but that's about it. If you still want Logos to bring up the Home Page upon startup (so you can see the daily news or whatever), then be sure to Save your Layout after you've arranged it the way you like it, and then you can open that Layout back up whenever you want.
To learn more about Layouts (including how to save them) watch the Layouts videos made by Logos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XD6KkGMp2Wo and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJmWfOksqpw, and some of the user-generated ones too, which you'll find here: http://wiki.logos.com/Logos_4_Video_Tutorials

Thank you for your helpful pointers. I have one question that I cannot seem to find the answer. When copying citations from Logos and pasting them to Microsoft Word 10, I no longer get the citations numbered as in Logos 3. I can copy the reference, but they are not formatted as before. Am I doing something wrong or is this how things are done in Logos 4? Thanks!

Hi Ivan
http://community.logos.com/forums/p/23008/171479.aspx talks about this - it looks like a "known problem" which is present in the current general release but fixed in the new version which is at the Release Candidate stage.
Hope this helps
Graham
Thanks very much Graham. It is good to know that it isn't me unable to understand something. I trust this will be fixed then. I will look at the forum comment you forwarded. God Bless you for your quick response! Ivan
I'm gettng increasingly disturbed ... I started off with a simple desire to print notes. (For some reason the first 2 or 3, down to a blue dashed line that I cannot remve, print ... and the rest of the items in the file don't [*-)] ... so I searched the forums ... couldn't find any help ... just a mass of threads that revealed that printing wasn't even supported at all until recently. I've got 4.2 on Vista ... so that's OK. but then I thought I'd try the FAQ's ... and when I go to the link I see the support options, but no FAQ's ... am I going nuts?
am I going nuts?
There was a temporary problem with the web site. Please try it again.
If you have further questions, please start a new thread rather than post here.
I thought I'd try the FAQ's ... and when I go to the link I see the support options, but no FAQ's ... am I going nuts?
The support site is currently messed up...it just happened within the last hour.

Ian - your description of what you are trying to do and the mention of a blue dashed line makes me think you are working with "handouts" as opposed to "notes".
Just wanted to check that. As Mark suggested, if you have specific questions it would be best in a new thread.
Chris,
I have the same concern as Edi, in that I am pretty much satisfied from the resources I own from L3... the difference is, I purchased the Crossgrade
... on the screen where you have the option to purchase it, #3 note says: "Please note that you will need to own the corresponding English Bibles for the following interlinears to work. These Bibles are not included in the Minimal Crossgrade: New Living Translation, Authorized English Version (1873), English Standard Version, New King James Version, New Revised Standard Version.... blah, blah, blah...
I had several of these bibles already ... it only took 21 hours for L4 to load :0( only to find out I did NOT receive ANY the reverse interlinears!!!
Will I have to fish through the ftp://ftp.logos.com/LbxBooks/ as I did when I had to locate missing resources from L3 or is there an easier way?
Thank You,
Phil
Has there been any announcement on the release of the Dead Sea Scroll Data Base? I pre-ordered it and am anxious to see its format.
Yours and His
Dan
According to http://www.logos.com/product/5961/qumran-biblical-dead-sea-scrolls-database it should ship on 23 Feb (next Wednesday).
I believe it was due to ship today so there has been a slip - and it may slip again.
I'm not in "the know" but I can imagine a delay in shipping one resource could very well create a temporary traffic jam delaying subsequent projects. Although Logos has been adding more staff recently, there will always be a finite number and limited capability to what they can accomplish.
In the past few days another Pre-Pub hit a speed bump snafu right before shipping:
The World of the Aramaeans (3 vols.) needed a little last minute tweaking. Depending on what that issue was, it may have necessitated double-checking the other Pre-Pubs for the same issue.
