Can this post be locked in place at the top of the forum for ready access. This is a time saver. I, and I suspect others, will be coming back to this post often.
Thanks
Larry

It is set to stick to the top for 3 months, so it should appear at the top when people navigate to the Logos 4 forum directly. We can keep it up longer than that if necessary.

thank you for this information. It answered many questions.

These special FAQs help. for the life of me I can't figure out why they aren't posted on the main support page and one has to go to the forums to find them. To me this is poor marketing and support. These FAQs finally said that my current resources will work with Logos 4. It was not at all clear before. It is still not clear and my questions have not been answered as to if I can purchase new resources (particularly for download) that will run under Logos 3. I also am mystified by an apparent requirement for 20 gigs of HD space for LOGOS 4 under WIN 7. To me this,if the numbers are correct , suggests a bloated program.
I have no intention upgrading to WIN 7 untl one of my computers actually dies so it does not seem that there is any reason to upgrade to Logos 4.
I would like to know that any new resources that I might buy will run under V3. I guess I will just wait and see what happens.
I have been happy with Logo/Libronix 3 and have encouraged friends to buy it but I do think that this launch could have been managed much better.

They are on the main support page and have been, though I just added the brand new one.

Ask away. I'm happy to try to clear it up.
StephenAMorris said:my questions have not been answered as to if I can purchase new resources (particularly for download) that will run under Logos 3.
Downloadable books and collections for the next several months will work on Logos 3 (and Logos for Mac 1) and Logos 4.

Nope. We're just giving you that much great content.
Keep in mind that Platinum is 8GBs and that your index will be several GBs. If you have existing resources, which it sounds like you do, you're looking at even more GBs. 20GBs is a pretty conservative average. My Logos 4 folder has 88GBs of data in it, but that's with 10,000+ resources.

I don't understand how these are related. Logos 4 doesn't require Windows 7. It will run fine on Vista and XP SP3. There are lots of reasons to upgrade to Logos 4, even if you don't plan to switch to the Logos 4 engine quite yet. You can get hundreds of new books at incredible discounts and run the majority of them on Logos 3.

Any new resources that you buy will run on Logos 3. If that's not the case for future resources, we'll make that clear.
StephenAMorris said:I do think that this launch could have been managed much better.
So do we.
We were working around the clock to hit the deadline and would have loved more time. Thanks for your patience and understanding as we continue to make things better.

Phil,
Thanks (seems appropriate to say to y'all down south on the eve of the 4th Thurs of Nov.) for putting this up here and on the support page. These are very useful and will reduce the "traffic" on these forums. Some of the 1K and 2K guys must have been wearing out their keyboards responding to queries - there certainly are several FAQs.
Have a great holiday - y'all deserve it!

Don't be. It's the work computer. His own has a much more modest dimension.

Is there such a thing as "The Logos 4 Guide for Logos 3 Users"? In other words, some kind of organized list of the features and function of L3 and how they are now mapped to, integrated in, and renamed within L4? Most of the tutorials and examples I've come across are geared for first-time users. Are there no materials devoted to assisting long-time L3 users to see the relationship between how things once worked versus now? The list of "new features' is so generic as to be of little benefit. Thanks.

Danlsom,
Try here if you haven't already looked at this:

And here's a thread that refers to a couple of user created videos that are very helpful.

Jon and Joan, I blogged about user-created videos today and have added a link to them in the original post in this thread. Thanks for the suggestion!

If you still can't find answers,
Thanks Phil, this is very helpful and will go along way to helping many. May I suggest that if someone orders an L4 DVD, that the links to these sites be included with the DVD as well as a strong encouragement to look at the links before installing...
As well, I would suggest (if not already done) that the website be very clear to anyone interested in purchasing,,,that they look at the FAQ before buying.

what if i do not wish to purchace more books, i already have the The Scholars edition and am happy, what is the most basic upgrade for what i have? the "Upgrade Discounter" has an upgrade to a "Portfolio Edition" costing over $2,000, i have no intention of purcahsing this.
I like the format of L4, what is the least upgrade available?

Edi,
You can simply get the L4 engine for free. http://downloads.logos.com/LBS4/LDLS4Installer/Logos4Setup.exe ou This will install and then download your L3 Scholars resources in L4 format (those that are and the rest in L3 format until they are converted) and then index them. You have to download them again, because they are in a different format and go to a different directory and are indexed on your machine.
Or you can get the crossgrade and get the basic new things designed for L4. Bob recommends you do this at least to get the most out of L4 without upgrading to Silver, Gold, Platinum or Portfolio.
You can read all that I just wrote, in Phil's words, in the last FAQ of the General FAQs, which is the purpose of this thread. I would suggest you read what's out there first.

Are you running this as an administrator? This is required for 1st time installation.

Bob,
This indicates a problem with .NET or the Visual C++ Runtimes. You should first make sure that Vista is up-to-date with SP2. You should then try and download/install the following:
If you get error messages, this will help you to determine the source of your problem. If you don't, try Logos again - it should work if all this is installed properly.

Phil,
I am new to the "forums" (my only two posts are in the "newbies" thread) and I have a couple of questions that I could not find on the faqs.
1. When L4 updates automatically to let me know that I have 4 new updates/resources; is there a way of telling what was updated?
2. How do you "start a new thread"?
Thanks - Mark Watson - a Logos user in Kentucky.

Not at this time. Not easily anyway. You can always open your resources directory and sort by date to see what's new, or just check here - people will be discussing it. [;)] I keep hoping Logos will include some sort of "what's been updated" feature.Mark Watson said:1. Go to the main page for a particular forum and click make a new post:Mark Watson said:2. How do you "start a new thread"?

I still have the shortcut for Libronix on my computer after downloading Logos 4. Should I delete libronix? Does it take up additional unnecessary space?

DO NOT delete Libronix. If you want to you may uninstall it from Windows (big difference!).
But there are a few reasons to keep it (at least for a while):
1) Logos4 is still developing some of its functionality (see below for what's Missing, and a time table for seeing it in L4). If you need any of those things, keep Libronix for now.
2) If you need to install a pre-pub, or purchase a close-out CD from a 3rd party (e.g., Nelson) you will need to install it first to Libronix, before Logos4 will be able to pick it up.
3) You may be more familiar with how Libronix works, and it may save you some time initially to use Libronix. Eventually, most find that Logos4 is much, much easier to use and at the same time more powerful.
To save space, you could remove many of the resources that are duplicated in Logos4 (at least). The program itself doesn't take up that much room, the resources however...

I just loaded L4 yesterday and I'm glad I still have L3 on my system. Some of my things on L3 did not carry over and it looks like a long learning curve for me to feel comfortable with L4. In these times you probably have an excess of disk space and probably can afford to keep it on your system till you are comfortable with the new software.[quote

me too..

It's not really a long learning curve. You sort of sit there and get frustrated for a bit because it's different from Logos 3, and then it clicks! Watching the videos will really help it click.

Raymond, if it is any consolation to you, your reaction is very common even to the most extreme power users that we have on these forums. However, after an hour or two of using the programme, it began to click with me and the more I used it the more I didn't go back. I have L3 still loaded, but I have not run it since the day I installed my upgrade. Hang in there and if there is anything we can do to help, let us know. Don't forget to look at the wiki - http://wiki.logos.com for additional help as well. The wiki is changing daily and will likely cover an issue you might be having. if it doesn't, say something on here or feel free to edit the wiki yourself because sometimes having newcomers to the wiki helps us see things we have been missing.
