Searching for "Father" referring to God

I apologize in advance if this has been posted, I could not find it.
Is it possible to search for the word "father" and filter it out so that the results only show those occurrences which refer to God?

I don't believe you can do this in a search - it would require being able to search for the string and filter on how the word is tagged in the results
However, you can do this the other way round.
Look up "God" in Bible Facts and then look at "Father" in the "Referred to as" section (bottom of screenshot below)

Thank you Graham. You're right, I was trying to figure out how to search the word with the tags as a search option. But your solution will do the job quite nicely. Now, thanks to your help, I'm back to the study...

Excellent - that's what we're here for[:)]

Notice that when I do this, I don't get any of the (two) OT references that you have on your screen shot. My total shows this discrepancy, at 224 to your 226. What am I missing?

Incidentally, I don't know if you noticed but you can expand the section (click on the ...), select all the references (drag your mouse and Ctrl-C) and paste the results into a Passage List.

I wonder if we have a different version of the Referents database. Mine was updated this morning[:)]
If you go into help (question mark at top right of screen) and select "About Logos Bible Software" on the left hand side you will see a list of datasets with their dates - my Bible Facts details are as below:
What date do you have against the Biblical Referents DB?

that could be it:

I tried that, "no updates available"

Graham, you're on beta aren't you? I'm guessing Michael isn't, and that that update is restricted to beta users. I know I got a bunch of updates when I downloaded the RC.

Yes, good point, thanks[Y]
Michael, sorry about that[:$]
I guess we need Logos to comment on whether the updated database does include the two Old Testament references or whether there is another issue here.

Although this restricts the results to the NT, you could try this LouwNida (only available for NT references) search on any reverse interlinear: <LouwNida = Louw Nida 12.12>
NOTE: LouwNida is not infallible.
ALSO NOTE: there are very few references in the OT to God as Father, there are some references that refer to God's people as His children, referring indirectly then to God as Father. I dealt with this issue a couple of years back, and wish I could be more specific. But the LN # search should get you along way toward your goal.

in which case - can I suggest you try "update resources" as opposed to "update now"?
It takes longer but is more thorough (I should really have suggested that before)

Wow, excellent! Thank you. Should have thought of Naves or a similar, I was going at it from the other direction...

Clause search may be an option:

Hi KS4J
using clause search in the way you suggested is a great idea.
i thought there must have been some way of doing that but couldn't figure out what it was.
interesting that it seems to produce different results to my suggestion!
EDIT: looking again at your OT results, the first one (Gen 17:5) seems to be a false positive as the term "father" seems to be referring to Abraham as opposed to God

Clause search in Hebrew Bible:
subject:God subject-lemma:אָב
has some results to consider:
Keep Smiling [:)]

But, again, looking at the early results the word "father" doesn't refer to God

Appears two results have desired reference:

What excellent results. Thank you so much Keep Smiling and everyone who chimed in here. I have learned a great deal about the power of this program I seem to be only scratching the surface of. Very educational. I am going to have to make more time somehow to discover more gems of Logos. God bless you all for your help and passion for the Word.

Hmmm, shouldn't Isaiah 63:16 and Isaiah 64:8 be included or am I missing something?

I think you are right.
The reason they didn't show in the Bible Facts referrent section is that the term "father" in these verses isn't tagged as "God" but as "A Father"
Would need Logos to comment on whether this is deliberate or an oversight.
And this highlights the dependence on Logos tagging for these types of searches to work properly.

This has been discussed here too: [url]0

Graham,
This has to be an oversight because the personal pronoun "thou" (AV) is tagged as God.

Peace to all! *smile*
Perhaps I should have started a new thread ... ???
Yesterday I downloaded the new 5.1RC2 -- I realise that not everyone is ready for this yet ... it is a release candidate ... almost gold ... however, still on Beta Channel .. so be very careful indeed ....
However, a new feature .... (if you happen to have it ....!!!)
In the "Go" box on the home page, type in "father" (a topic!)
It will take you to a special layout ....
I get this:::
Note the following ...
According to this next post ... It doesn't seem to be working 100% ... ( but I'm impressed!)

From the release notes:
Running ‘Go’ on a topic from the Home Page will now open a pre-made layout.- A Topic Guide, a Sermon Starter Guide (if applicable), and a Bible Word Study will be displayed in the left panel.
- Preferred Bible will be displayed in the upper right panel.
- Up to five Dictionaries will appear in the bottom right panel in order of preference.
>>>>>>
This is working correctly, with the exception of my preferred Bible; it is not appearing.
I am just getting two large panels - one on the left with the Topic Guide and Sermon Starter, and one on the right with 5 Dictionaries.
Am I missing something or is this a bug?

I am getting the same thing - no preferred Bible (no Bible at all)
I will admit that I don't know how Logos would work out where to open the Bible in relation to a topic but I guess that's a different question
Philippians 4: 4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. 5 Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand..........
