It's a new trend in study Bibles, introducing new theologies without the pastors' knowledge.

Actually this is just a shameless trick to point to the blog today.

But actually this trend is not new (a, well, compared to akkadian trends to revise sumerian cuniform scripture it's brand-new), see Scofield, but still going strong (ESV SB), sometimes even with the pastor's knowledge.

I must admit, I read something like "Study Bible on Doctrine" first and had to go back after the m.Ed

Hmm....I'm a bit confused. What are you saying Denise?

I did see some of the...discussion on the blog from yesterday.

I'll leave that question for the sages of the ages...but I think the Blog post left out an ampersand--I think it should have said "Study (the) Bible & Doctrine". Otherwise, it could say "Study Biblical Doctrine" or "Study Bible Doctrines", but since the course is "Bible and Doctrine Foundations", I think the first option is best. Otherwise you generate the confusion to which Denise drew attention--it tends to read like "Study Bible" Doctrine, as if Study Bibles have their own unique set of creeds.

Denise was poking fun in her cryptic way.

Actually I was quite impressed with Dr Heiser's course description and using the blogs to do it. The forum had been a bit grouchy on the previous mystic announcements for m.Div.

But on the Study Bible doctrines, I do think there is a LOT of truth to that. Obviously I'm no pastor, but at church, as our pastor valientlly tries to 'teach the Word' (and presents the background and a down-to-earth discussion), his flock is busily reading their study Bible notes, many of which aren't remotely in the ballpark. One is even using her Logos, which the pastor kindly passes over.

But maybe that is what Christianity is ... each person.
