You all probably know that Ludwig von Zinzendorf invented the world's most popular daily devotional some nearly three hundred years back - and that it has remained influential in the protestant world, published uninterrupted even by wars and revolutions since then.

If not, you may want to check out some information directly at the moravian church, e.g. http://www.moravian.org/faith-a-congregations/moravian-daily-texts/54-an-introduction-to-the-daily-texts.html (US) or http://www.moravian.org.uk/index.php/information/daily-watchwords (UK) or http://losungen.de if you read German.

Inspired by MJ's Lectionary file in another thread, I put together the Daily Texts / Watchwords / Losungen for the remainder of 2013.

I made an English Language version and a German one:

3264.Daily Texts lectionary.Remainder of 2013.docx

6470.Die Losungen.Rest 2013.docx

Compile as a lectionary in the respective language (note: the bible verses will display in your preferred bible in both files, it's the rest that has been localized) and set as most prioritized lectionary to have it show on the L5 homepage.

As a picture I use this stamp (via wikipedia) which was produced in 1980 to commemorate the 250th anniverary edition.

Thank you. This is a resource that I'd really like to see in Logos.

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

Hi Mick, are you preparing a version for 2014? I would be interested ;-))

We could ask the Herrnhut people to post it on their homepage: www.losungen.de/download/download.php ... and as a second step motivate others to think about Logos ;-)

    Yes, sure!

I just have been been held up by other things... maybe I'll release a month or so as a first batch before finishing all of it.

It took a bit longer - but see my post in the German language subforum: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/87488.aspx

Since the instructions there are in German, a quick wrap-up might be in order: compile the Word document containing the texts for all of 2014 as a type lectionary in German language. The 2014 edition gives the official German texts plus a dynamic text field which will display the text in a bible version of your choice - and if this doesn't have the book in question, it will default to your highest prioritized bible.

You'll need to prioritize this lectionary if you want it to show on the home page (this worked for me - running latest beta - regardlell of UI language and whether Verbum was on or off).

In this version I retained the original versification (Luther 1984 verse map) but in pop-ups and dynamic text Logos will show the correct verses with the corresponding verse numbers of your chosen bible version. Enjoy!

EDIT: German user Raik reported that the PB compilation may have some issues in the current stable version, which may be due to an error in the verse reference parser that was fixed in the current beta cycle. A possible workaround could be to replace the German bible book names that use digits (like 1. Johannes) with a form without the period (i.e. 1 Johannes) in the Word document.

Note that the document should compile without errors or warnings. Every warning the PB compiler gives for not being able to parse the biblelutbib1984 reference in a dtext field needs to be fixed - and is indicative of the same parser issue in the reference a line above.

Thanks Mick, for your efforts, and the additional info!

Good to know, that the versification issue

will be fixed in a nearer future! ;-) My experience is/was the same as Raik's. Shouldn't be difficult to replace the digits "1." to "1" etc in MS WORD.

Update: A file for the 2015 Daily Texts / Watchwords is here: https://community.logos.com/forums/p/87488/676832.aspx#676832 - just add to the 2014 file in the PB and recompile.

And the file for the 2016 Moravian Daily Texts / Watchwords including a fresh instruction (but for users of the current version, just add to the PB and rebuild) is found here: https://community.logos.com/forums/p/118948/780477.aspx#780477
