Hi everyone. Fairly new Christian here (Methodist) and would enjoy suggestions. I'm OK with bibles, it's the other resources I need help with. The vast majority of the resources are new to me. I have browsed a number of them but I want to get a feeling I'm using LOGOS effectively. I have Silver. Suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Rich

Just wanted to say hi, and welcome to the forum :) I'm certain someone who can answer this question better than I will be along to answer your question.

I could tell you about my favorites, but I'm not a methodist haha.

    L2 lvl4 (...) WORDsearch, all the way through L10,

  • Prioritization is helpful for resources that have various indexes.  Type:Lexicon resources tend to have headword indexing so prioritization affects lexicon search order.  For example, clicking (i) in DBL Greek shows five indexes:

Thread => searching strong's numbers has a prioritization example with lexicons.

I would suggest watching the videos that forum user Mark Barnes created is an absolute must. For your specific inquiry you should watch video #16 titled "Prioritizing". Even though the videos were made with Logos 4, they are still very relevant and easy to follow.

You can get to his Logos training web site here:

A direct link to video #16 is:

Hi Rich - Spending a bit of time on this will pay dividends further down the road. What you prioritise impacts on how resources appear in various different tools and searches. For example, prioritising commentaries affects the order in which they appear in the Passage Guide, prioritising lexicons affects the order in which they appear in Lemma lookups and Word Studies, and prioritising Bible Dictionaries (classified as type:Encyclopedia in the Library) affects the order and what appears in Bible Facts. One other that is worth remembering is devotionals. Prioritising these affects what displays on the iPad Home Page and other places.

So, in summary, I would prioritise

    • commentaries (type:commentary)
    • Bible Dictionaries (type:encyclopedia) - note American spelling
    • Lexicons (type:dictionary)
    • Devotionals (type:devotional)

You don't need to do it all at once.  In my case I started with commentaries, then lexicons, then Bible Dictionaries, then devotionals last of all. It all depends really on what you use the program for most.

EDIT: There is also a helpful suggestion here from Morris Proctor on how to organise prioritised resources which is very helpful once you start making extensive use of the facility.
