App Questions

I've just installed the Noet app on my iPad and iPhone. I have a few quick questions:

1. Since I already have a Logos ID, I logged into my Noet app using that. Will that unlock the free Noet titles, or do I have to complete an extra registration process?

2. With the free Noet titles, will they also sync back to L5 or only be viewable in the Noet app?

3. Will the Noet app's notes sync with L5 or be separate?

Thanks!

    Hi Nathan,

    Thanks for your questions.

    1. Yes, this will unlock the free Noet titles. There's no need to complete an extra registration process.

    2. Note, however, that the free Noet titles will only be available for use within the Noet mobile app--not in other apps, nor in L5.

    3. Any note you create in the Noet app will sync with L5, as note documents are associated with your user account. As long as you're using the same user account for the Noet mobile app and the Logos desktop app, your notes should sync. Let me get back to you on the issue of a note created on a free Noet mobile resource that you might not own, but that you create in the Noet mobile app. Thanks for your patience.

    Thanks for the info!

RE 2: Is there a way for you to make the titles available in the other apps and L5 or is there a licensing issue? It'd be great to have all my titles sync across apps (like the way Vyrso and FSB does now).

RE3: I'm not seeing any of my L5 notes in Noet. Is syncing one way (Noet notes shows up in L5 but not vice versa)? If so, that's a little confusing.

Noet looks fun, I'm just hoping to see it fully in sync with L5 the way the other apps are to ensure I get the most use out of it.

Also, on the Word Study report, all I'm seeing is a definition and link to my lexicons. Is that all I'm supposed to be seeing right now?

One last side question. When Noet is launched for desktop, will it re-download all my L5 resources, or will it reference the L5 folder on my machine already, and will there be any reason to run a separate Noet desktop app over L5 or will all of its features also be in L5?

    Thanks!

I'm seeing my L5 notes turn up in Noet so it doesn't look like a general issue.

In the Settings menu, scroll down and you will see a "Notes" option, press that and you will get to the Notes menu which allows you to turn on / off individual notes documents (similar to what you have using the Visual Filter menu on L5). I suggest you look in there and see whether your notes documents are visible and whether they are turned on.

Also, on the Word Study report, all I'm seeing is a definition and link to my lexicons. Is that all I'm supposed to be seeing right now?

I see the same and I would have expected more information.

It took a while for my notes to show up, they weren't there initially.

As for Word Study I would not expect translation wheel since the app is not aimed at biblical studies but i would expecIsis to show textual search results for Pereus Collection.

My notes are slowly coming in now. All of them haven't appeared yet, but they're slowly syncing over. Some of my larger ones haven't appeared yet, but it'd probably just waiting for them to sync and download.

I agree about adding the Perseus stuff and more information in general. I'm not expecting it to be a carbon copy of the Bible Word Study guide since it's more geared toward non-Biblical literature, but it'll be nice to see it fleshed out with more info.

In the meantime, it's fun to test. :-)

Using it to read through Harvard Classics.  I can start a book, and come back to where I left next time I'm ready to do further reading.

Yes, at this point that's all you should be seeing. The Word Study tool provides the definitions of original language words and the links to their entries in your lexicons and dictionaries. It also provides the pronunciation tool for Greek words that have entries in our pronunciation tool database.

Yes, it will redownload your resources. It won't reference the L5 folder already on your machine. Only you'll be able to answer the question about whether you'll want to run the Noet desktop app alongside L5. From my perspective, it comes down to your research and study needs. For example, if you're interested in the Perseus materials to enhance your study of the New Testament, I don't imagine you'll need the Noet desktop app. If you're a classicist, however, who is interested in studying classical literature alone, then the Noet desktop application is for you.

Nathan, lastly on this, if in the Noet mobile app you create a note on a free book that you don't own, the note will appear in your desktop application, but will list the resource it's attached to as "unavailable" along with a preview of the resource. I hope this helps!

OK sounds good. I may test it on one of my machines and see what I think. Eventually, I wish Logos could architect Logos, Verbum, Noet, etc, to reference a single Library folder on the hard drive, similar to the way WORDsearch did with Bible Explorer, etc. Would save us library space but still allow us to have fun testing out new apps. :-)
