Maybe it just needs to be reformatted to get all of the junk off and clean it up.

Unix has done that back in January 2014 and there's Kaspersky antivirus. Has scanned manually with Malwarebytes almost every week. Nothing found. When clicking the library-button it hangs up. Also, I see his last post is edited now with a final message to You.

If this is the machine with the pirated resources,

That one got a virus when updating the graphic card driver from a "free database" with some kind of software in November or early December 2013. The old HDD was old, tiny and maybe worn. Unix's dad gave him an old completely unused 1TB HDD. We don't have any spare Windows for it though other than Vista which would not be a great choice. Have to ask someone to install Windows 7 on it, but the person who installs may keep the license. It's a pretty old computer.

I am guessing the sources of said software explain why the computer freezes.  That makes a lot of sense now.

We don't remember how slow exactly that computer was, but see explanation above - there's no further books, software or Windows "Neglected to remove" or pirated.

How is it that you speak for Unix? Are you his secretary, or possibly one of his multiple personalities? [:D]

Interesting since in this thread, you accidentally answer under your Unix user account when you were supposed to be using your NÖ account, which you have now changed to A.  I also pointed out long ago that you have the same odd habit of replying to a post, and then quoting it underneath, which you did in the response above, as the email below shows:

"Note: Replying to this email will NOT post to the forums. Please return to forums to respond back to this post.

Re: Difficult to get answers on hardware questions in Logos 5
    By A in General

But then you went back and changed it to the normal order, even though you always reply/quote, where others quote/reply, no matter which account you use.

Unix, there is no need to stop posting (except under different accounts), but maybe you shouldn't include personal information like relationships or the like.  Ask the questions that you have in as few words as possible, and answer the questions that people ask you back directly, without adding lots of new information.

EDIT2: And no it is not as simple as just to look at the price, for example there a 449 laptop over with 1.3GHz Core 2 Duo. For the same price on a somewhat nearby island to which You go by ferry to take a vacation there's a used laptop like this one for sale, notice quad core and 1600x900 pixel monitor: http://www.prisjakt.nu/produkt.php?e=1670057 - what do You think of it, btw? The CPU in it is approximately like this one: http://processors.findthebest.co.uk/l/1072/AMD-A6-3600. How do You think it would compare to: http://www.blocket.se/uppsala/Samsung_i_toppskick___AMD_Quad__8GB_RAM__1TB_53572397.htm?ca=11&w=2 which is in the same price range? Do You think these CPU:s are better than Intel i5 450M which is a dual core from 2010?: http://processors.findthebest.co.uk/l/35/Intel-i5-450M.

"For the same price on a somewhat nearby island to which You go by ferry to take a vacation there's a used laptop like this one for sale, notice quad core"

... I looked that up that one, the Samsung 355E7C-S03SE in the www.prisjakt.nu/produkt.php?e=1670057 link, it's dual core. 2 logical cores per physical. Sorry.

    All: Ignore Joseph.

That's not a mix-up, anyone is allowed to quote any other user from any thread, especially as a secretary. We are both tired of responding to this now meaningless thread. This account too is paid for, should I return the Pre-Summer pack? You seem to be keeping exact count of how many friends Unix has, Joseph!

LOL, I already told you I have OCD, did you think I was kidding?  How does one get a secretary when one can't afford a fan, or even a computer?

I agree that this thread is useless, and I apologize to others for helping to keep it going.  I hope Unix finds what he is looking for, whatever that might be.

Well if we didn't think You would be following the thread doesn't that support the case of Unix not having that kind of condition?:

Yes Unix, that is a clear indication that you don't have OCD.  I am sorry I brought it up, and I hope that you come back and participate in a healthy manner in the forums.  I also hope that you find the answers you are seeking concerning your computer, I have seen some good answers, and I think you will be well on your way to buying another soon that will last you at least another year.

I haven't decided. An extra computer would be a valuable addition but would disable me financially from swapping some of my books for used high dollar Accordance language resources:

You'r statement is awkward if You think my early 2012 low-budget "real Nigeria laptop (found on Google half a year or three quarters after the purchase of it)" HP 635 will speed up to get on par with AMD quad core if having Word 2010 and some Chrome tabs open together with Logos, Libronix and Accordance or if You meant (what You really meant specifically) that good storage space in a laptop is of no value additional-resale-value-wise:

Better in performance? Nope. But hey you've already made up your mind go and do - and don't waste my time with your crazy questions:

A better, slightly cheaper option would be the Western Digital dual disk for laptop http://www.netonnet.se/art/dator/komponenter/ssd/ssd-sata-25-tum/WD-BlackDualDrive120GBSSD1TB/197936.7965/ - it has both SSD (120GB, barely enough for Microsoft Office 2007, Logos, Verbum, Libronix and Accordance, no practically no space left for the future but my interests won't change) and WD Black HDD (Black are the best HDDs) that fits as a single unit in a single bay in the laptop. It costs $252. Do You think the manufacturer has proper maintenance software for the SSD?

I wouldn't listen to Your book-recommendations either, abondservant, as You are mostly just talking of having mainly huge base-packages and therefore saving. So You ask me a favour not to ask questions and I ask You a favor not to promote those packages to everyone if You are currently doing that. Just like I don't want Logos to hang up when clicking the library button (which is my only question after all, besides battery) I don't want to clutter my library with base-packages. I haven't said it earlier on, but I want to be able to use Defraggler in the evening when I'm tired while I use Logos, Accordance or Microsoft Word, dual core is not enough for that. Other's have said here not to upgrade the current computers with disks but to save for a better computer. Well, my finances will not be any better (nor necessarily worse) later on. What I'm worrying about will my softwares hang up when in Greek class Autumn 2014 and onwards so that I can't follow the tuition? The Logos forum is the right forum for my question.

Dual disk and fan beneath the laptop is an OK choice. A possible option is to buy the used quad core and later on put WD dual disk in it, copying everything from the old disk!! If the 120GB is not enough, uninstall Accordance and install it on the high-capacity HDD of the dual disk.

Also, when I bought BitDefender license for 3 computers for $13½ I got a video editing software too. Could possibly download tuition from the net with slow broadband or Wifi, and put together bite-size lectures. There would certainly be enough storage for that and the quad core would help, the graphics is decent for a used laptop and might be enough. Another option is to keep the desktop computer I bought for the friend who just left me today and use it for video-editing as it has good graphics but it's dual core, originally the CPU was developed 2007, at 2.66GHz so I'm not sure if that's feasible after all.

What do You think about the specific quad core laptop? Crazy question, huh? http://www.blocket.se/uppsala/Samsung_i_toppskick___AMD_Quad__8GB_RAM__1TB_53572397.htm?ca=11&w=2 $523 (down from $528 because of the fluctuation) with the currency exchange rate right at this moment, mentioned in the other thread.

Or spend $0 further money this year? Also an option, what do You think?

EDIT:, thanks Dave! People are asking all kinds of prices when they type an ad, so I would have to look up all highly relevant and bid or negotiate the price. Most of them never reply. I still have not got hold of the seller of the quad core.

    1. whatever the country of origin, if it has a sata 2 or 3 interface its going to see some improvements (obviously more with a sata 3 interface, however, a mechanical drive is not using the full bandwidth available to it even on the sata 2 interface). AMD is (barely) king in the multi-thread arena, Intel is King everywhere else. Transcoding, encrypting, compressing - these are the types of things that benefit from multiple cores, indexing in a program not designed to take advantage of multiple cores will see very little improvements.
    2. take your 500$, put it in your sock drawer, and put another 500$ with it in a year and buy a nicer computer, after a 25% vat, you'll be lucky to get a laptop thats better than what you have now for that budget. Or else try (and return if you don't like) an SSD.
    3. you seemed annoyed when you said the line I made bold in the quoted section; if that's the worst I've done in life, tempt people to buy a product I see as being valuable, then I am a happy man.
    4. May God bless you Unix, A, & No.

Edit: After a point, an extra core is like an extra motor on a boat. My uncle had a fishing boat with three 150hp outboard motors on it. As a Kid I thought "wow... thats gotta be the fastest boat in the world". As an adult, I see it for what it is: 3x the fuel costs, for an extra 20% or so in speed.

PS. I do use AMD products, and am writing you from a computer with 8 cores. However, there are a few very specific tasks that benefit from the extra real cores, Logos isn't really one of them. At most I've seen Logos use a couple hundred MB (of my 32gb) of ram, and getting a newer mechanical hard drive when yours is not yet failing won't improve the speed an appreciable amount. Increasing platter speed will - I can tell the difference when I upgrade from 5400, to 7200, or even 10000 rpm drives... Not everyone can... Save your money. Buy a better computer in a year or so.
