Added Parallel Resource drop-down menu in resource toolbar
This looks pretty good, Bradley. However it seems incomplete at this time.
1. For example, there are no parallel resources for a number of my Greek lexicons (BDAG, ANLEX, LN, EDNT, Newman, TLNT, Lexham, etc). I have it on the TDNT and WSNTDICT but the results there are strange. It lists my collection Greek Lexicons but only six lexicons are listed (no scrolling). I have 18 resources in that collection.
The situation with my Hebrew lexicons is worse. I don't have many of them open, but my enhanced BDB shows parallel resources but just 2 of the 22 in my Hebrew Lexicons collection:
BTW: the way a Hebrew-Greek resource is handled is very nice. Example: NASB Hebrew-Aramaic-Greek Dictionaries which is a single volume:
You might also note that the Hebrew side reports a different set of resources than I got for the enhanced BDB.
I admit I don't know how Logos is generating these parallel resource associations, but if you are using my collections, there is something not working quite as expected, and in some cases not at all.
2. I also have no parallel associations for any of my Bible dictionaries: ABD, NBD, ISBE, Rev, etc.
Same here.

Richard,
How did you manage to finally download the beta? I run the installer and always get the message "Logos Bible Software is up-to-date."
Richard DeRuiter said:Bradley, when I run this I get the message: "Logos Bible Software is up-to-date" Nothing else seems to happen and L4 reports 4.0a SR-2 for version number.
EDIT: Mine is already installing too now.

The third time I downloaded it, it worked. There must have been a lag between when the forum post went up and the beta was put on the web site.
Are you downloading the update now and still finding it doing that?

Yes, I've been trying this morning (Central European Time) and still cannot install the beta.

I would still like to see the Logos Logo on the blue ribbon turned into an active link for the Logos homepage. It seems a most intuitive use of that logo and would be very useful. I've suggested it before but I don't think anybody has heard. What do others think?

Don't know what else to tell you Ruben. Maybe a Logos employee can help here.

This is awesome! Totally streamlined my approach to layouts.
Using this to switch between resources provides a much snappier response than switching between the same resources all open in multiple tabs!

Thank you, Richard. I discovered something interesting. While the About dialog displays 4.0a Beta 2, the build number is indeed 4.02.3.4945. In other words, this is 4.0b Beta 1, but unfortunately the Spanish UI misled me. I have started another thread asking how to revert to the English UI. I think that should fix this particular issue.

I typed "Set update channel to beta" in my commandbox and it updated almost immediately.

The requirements page states that you needL3 installed. I don't have it installed, but kept the data directory intact when I copied my files to my new WIN7 install. And the notes imported. [y]
Thank you X about a zillion!Bradley Grainger said:Resources support navigating by data type levels, highlighting, and search results
I've tried it, it works and I'm VERY grateful. As a guy who just creates too many reading plans to keep up with, this is a wonderful addition. Thanks!Bradley Grainger said:Added “Adjust plan” feature to reading plans. If you are behind, you can right-click on a day and select “Adjust plan from here”, which pushes everything back so that you start reading on that day.

New Features
- Import notes, highlighting and favorites from LDLS3. To start the import, enter one of the following commands in the command box
- NOTE: Before importing notes, please read the important instructions about importing from LDLS3
import notes
import highlighting
import favorites
import all
(imports all three types listed above)
- Added Parallel Resource drop-down menu in resource toolbar
Starting to go through these. Imported notes and higlighting and made some observations in a couple of other posts.
Parallel resources do work. Very cool! However content of the same type are sometimes included in parallel sets where they don't occur. For example, I created a collection of Exegetical Commentaries and Homiletical Commentaries. I did not include the IVP Bible Background Commentary in either set. However when I look at that commentary the parallel resource button is on the tab and shows that it is connected to the Exegetical Commentary set. At least there is a check after Exegetical Commentaries on the drop down box on that tab (which contains many commentaries not included in that, or any collection).
Bradley Grainger said:Resources support navigating by data type levels, highlighting, and search results
I have no idea what this means, or how I would test/use this. Please elaborate.
Bradley Grainger said:Added Graph Search Results to Morph Search when all searched resources are Bibles
Haven't tried this yet.
Bradley Grainger said:Added “Speed search” to Bible search, which is now the default
This does work, but since it first looks for words in a 'word list' and then displays verse results, it is actually slower than regular search. Consider changing the name to "Search as you type."
Bradley Grainger said:Added an “Update to current snapshot” context menu option to saved layouts, which replaces the saved layout with the current layout.
Love this! One of the first features I used. Worked perfectly, and as designed.
Bradley Grainger said:Added a button to the Search Panel toolbar to create a new Visual Filter document from the search
I see this but haven't tried it yet. Looks promising.
Bradley Grainger said:Added “Adjust plan” feature to reading plans. If you are behind, you can right-click on a day and select “Adjust plan from here”, which pushes everything back so that you start reading on that day.
Added domain and subdomain to the Louw-Nida search analyis group headerHaven't tried these yet. Not really sure what the second one means.
Bradley Grainger said:Added an access key for opening the customize menu on the home page (Alt+C)
Works as designed. This was an issue with a visually impaired person on the forums just a few days ago. Thanks!
Bradley Grainger said:Added Bibles-only search index
Not sure how to test this. I assume this is supposed to make Bible searches faster. Is there a benchmark we could run?
Bradley Grainger said:There are now different settings for auto bookmarks, user defined favorite bookmarks, and search bookmarks for more control over visual bookmark settings
I see them in the settings list now. Haven't tested them yet. Looks promising.
Bradley Grainger said:Adding “Default Sans Serif” font option to the Settings panel
Yep. Nice font too.
Bradley Grainger said:External links can be dragged to the Favorites panel
Haven't tested this yet, but I'm not one who's used Favorites a lot in the past (never had any in L3).
Bradley Grainger said:Copy Bible Verses Global Shortcut is now shown in Program Settings
Yes, and it looks like it can be changed there (three options), or disabled.
Bradley Grainger said:Changed layout of reference range picker in Bible Search, Morph Search, and Reading Plan
Looks pretty similar (at least) to what was before. Reference ranges still save automatically, regardless of clicking "Save."
Bradley Grainger said:Each unique term in a search query is now highlighted with a different color
Nice. Do you notice that this highlighting disappears when hovering over the verse so that the full verse is displayed?
Bradley Grainger said:Input boxes will try to provide valid Bible reference ranges instead of doing nothing (e.g. “mt 28:18-22” will parse to Mt 28:18-20)
Works great! I tried Psalm 152 and it showed me Psalm 150. Clicking ENTER (with Psalm 152 in the address box) puts me at Psalm 150:1.
Bradley Grainger said:User-defined collections now have their own section (separate from Series) in Search range picker
Nice. Had to scroll a little to find them but there they are, just above all the 'MyTag' entries.
Bradley Grainger said:Implicit Series are now included as options in the Cited By panel menu (disabled by default)
I think I know what you mean by implicit series. Are these defined by an algorithm, or are they tagged as series in the Library?
A lot of the bugs aren't issues I'd know how to test, or just don't feel like it right now but...
Bradley Grainger said:Fixed Copy Bible Verses not remembering “to” program from shortcut
CONFIRMED fixed in 4.0a B1.
Thanks for all the work that went into this. I look forward to finding ways to break it. [;)]

There's a new menu on the Resource toolbar where you can select data type, and then the new Up/Down arrows next to it will navigate through your resource by that unit. Also if you do a Find within a resource, you can click the up/down carets (shouldn't they be arrows too, for consistency?) to get to the next/prev search result. People have been asking for these enhancements. Great new feature(s)! Thanks!

Ah-ha. Actually, it's the "Locator bar," but I got it from your screen shot. I usually have that closed. Pretty handy feature, though. I might want to have it open more often now.

My notes did not import.
I solved my problem. I have installed the Beta under a different user name. Under that user name I had no annotations in the My Documents folder. I copied my annotations to a new Libronix DLS/Annotations folder under the Beta user account and the import worked just fine. I mention this because others who install under a separate account for Beta testing may run into the same problem.

Amazingly...I have not (as far as I can remember) had a single crash in any Beta since about Beta five of Logos 4.0 (that's a lot of Betas NOT to have a crash). I am truly blessed to use Logos and to "play" with these new features! I love the new parallel resources and being able to scroll via Book, Chapter, Verse, highlight, Search!!!!!

so far everything is running smoothly... notes & highlights imported perfectly! was very surprised to see my custom Psalm 119 highlighting come over so nicely. There's one that I need to fix once we can do custom highlights, but I'm very pleased [:)] my notes came over great too.
you guys rock!

I hate to be a wet blanket but on the feature now that allows you to choose "by verse"?
When you up/down arrow, it will still "skip a verse" sometimes...very annoying. (I was arrowing through John 3:
John 3:27, push arrow, 3:28, push arrow, 3:29, push arrow, 3:31....whoops? What happened to John 3:30???
Otherwise...woo hoo...things are heading in the right direction!
EDITED TO ADD: the verse skipping happens when a verse is completely contained on one line ALONG WITH the last bit of the previous verse....John 3:30, John 3:32 etc

Love the new navigation features.
I suggest the addition of navigating by Pericope for Bibles (in addition to Article, Book, Chapter, Verse).

Brent,
Currently, the NKJV, NIV, and NRSV will toggle through their pericopes. Now, getting the others to work in the same way would complete your suggestion. [:D]

You can add NET Bible to the list. It toggles through the pericopes. ESV toggles through the chapters (if you use articles).

Should have known better....I was in the OT when testing the other English translations.
Now, wouldn't it be nice to have a field box when searching parallel resources (especially when the list gets a little long? My how spoiled I've become!

I wrote earlier that I had not had a single crash since about Beta 4 (if my poor memory even serves me at all!)....no sooner than I posted (which, for some reason, it didn't post on this thread) I got my very first crash (and it is doing it consistently for the BWS)! Here's the log.8015.Logos4.zip
