Serial\Parallel resource associations in L4?
Is it still possible to create user-defined serial and parallel resource associations?
I normally serially link a GNT to a Hebrew OT but I haven't found a way to accomplish this in L4.
Thanks
Richard

If you prioritize a Greek and Hebrew Bible, then double-click the area next to the tab of your English Bible (not on the +), it will open your Greek text with a NT passage and Hebrew text with an OT passage. You can use the New Tab feature (click the +) to choose a resource with the same passage from a broader list.

Very sneaky (NOT obvious).
But could we do it without creating another tab then get back to the original resource ala v3?

Melissa,
My does not do this. It opens the next bible in the priority list.

Doesn't work for me ... when double clicking, the new tab opens with a resource but ...
1. With an NT passage, I get the Lexham English Bible when I do this with an NT passage, but
this is not a prioritised resource. My top priority is NA27 but this
does not appear.2. With an OT passage I get the TNIV
Am I missing something?

When we do this, it means that the number of linked resources other than bibles is greatly reduced in the right-click context menu for bible references.
Not sure I followed. Can you try that one more time?

I had set up my preferred resources so that if I right-clicked on a bible reference or selected a block of text in a bible and right clicked on it that.....in the context menu under "Reference" at the bottom it would show two English bibles - NJB and NRSV, Harper's Bible Commentary and Oxford Bible Commentary (when available) and then start working through other commentary series until there was a hit (starting with WBC).
By placing NA27, BHS and LXX higher up in my preferences list, the first four suggestions for a reference "keylinking" (what do you call that?) are now all bibles for Old Testament resources.
Does that make sense?0 -

Does that make sense?Okay. I understand what you are saying, but I'm having a difficult time figuring out how adding a Hebrew and Greek Bible could change the list that significantly. Would you mind posting four screenshots: before and after of your resource priority list and your context menu options?

Have to get back to you on the screenshots (if you still want them) as I have to fly out the door now.
But, I lowered the priority of NA27, SESB, LXX to after my commentaries but before my other English bibles. This allows me to both access these resources through double-clicking next to the new tab button and does not cause them to appear in the right-click context menu ahead of my commentaries.
The problem is that they do not need to be in 2nd and 3rd place, they simply need to be before other bibles.

I've done that but it doesn't work as described - double clicking the tab area brings up TNIV or Lexham English Bible.
How can I serially connect two resources of my own choosing?
I don't want to have to open a new tab every time - what I'm after is the existing NA27 tab which is synched to my English Bibles to locate the current Bible reference in NA27 or LHI depending on whether it's an NT or OT passage ...
Do users have any way of creating serial resources? If not, please consider restoring this functionality!
Thanks

Oh I think I get it, a key bit of info assumed but not mentioned in any previous post ...
When you double click, you get the next resource OF THAT TYPE in the new tab - if the rightmost tab you click on is NA27, you get an original language Bible when you double click.
if it's an English Bible, you get the next highest priority English Bible, or a system-selected one if you have no more Bibles prioritised.
This is quite far short of a user-defined serial\parallel resource facility though!

When I press the "+" sign, I get a list of resources that coincide with my resource so that I can choose the next one I want to open. Can I add to that list. i.e. - When I have Grudem's Sys Theo, open and I click the +, I receive a short list of related sys theo items. I would like to add other Systematic Theologies in my Library to that list so that I have the ability to choose them. Chafer's Sys Theo is not listed. How can I add Chafer's to that list that opens?

Oh I think I get it, .....
This is quite far short of a user-defined serial\parallel resource facility though!
I've spent some time aligning Prioritised resources with my v3 Keylinking for Greek/Hebrew/Aramaic and Preferred Bibles but it is frustrating to have to go thru a resource for each data type to find what its defaults are, then prioritise enough resources for use on the context menu.
As for serial and parallel resources - the single list is getting too long to remember what it is accomplishing. I don't want to open new tabs and then close them again as I'm running out of tab space for double-clicking (yuk) and then it doesn't open the resource I expect. And I'm still not sure how to set up a serial association.
Let me illustrate Parallel Resource lists after pressing +
Prioritised List LGNTI Parallel LHI Parallel ESV NET NET NET LGNTI LHI ... NA27 Int AFAT LGNTI ... ... NA27 Int ... ... LHI ... ... AFAT ESV ESV From the Prioritised List you can see that the Parallel Resources for LGNTI (Greek Bible) and LHI (Hebrew Bible) are what you would expect except that ESV is languishing a long way down the lists instead of being on top! My mistake was using Advanced Settings to select Bible (ESV) data type(?). When I deleted the entry and re-inserted it as default, ESV came to the top of each list! What is Bible (ESV)?
Now, how do I setup a serial association with LGNTI and LHI and does it execute when I type an OT reference in LGNTI text box?

Correct. Sorry for not being clear. I meant 2nd and 3rd in your list of Bibles, not necessarily in your entire list.

Color coding the books (with a block, not just a font color) in the prioritized list according to the type of book might make it easier to know where we need to put things. For that matter being able to filter the list somehow could be beneficiary.

Neat ideas, Philip. I'll pass these along.

Yes, good idea. If there is no other way how to keep the different type of resources separate - the color blocs would work.

There are at least two conversations going on in this thread - let me pick up Dave Hooton's point again. There needs to be a way to create serial associations, but I've been making this point already so won't labour it again here.
I believe the prioritise\resource associations\keylinking side of the program needs a rethink!

At the very least we need this colour coding... removal of keyllinking has taken away far too much this new system is confusing and very difficult to manage

Agreed Richard the orginal question has not been answered , and partly that is because this new proritize resources is not really working it keeps coming up and hijacking our thoughts... A re-think is clearly required

Maybe that would help Philip, because I don't understand a single thing being discussed.. boy I feel dumb.
The reason its being discussed is because none of us understand it either :-)

My guess is that this is in a soon to be beta. I think that this feature (serial resources) is replaced by the series column in the library (I tested it with the Pulpit commentary and the commentary pane did not follow the scripture outside of the specific commentaries' book). My guess (aka conspericy theory) is that the just don't want to tip their hand as to whats coming down the pike. If I'm right then we should be able to define our own series in the future.

When you can confirm this moves from conspericy theory to trumor can you confirm for us back here.... we are all (well maybe just me and I thnk Dave H) really frustated with the lack of resource management so far offered in this beta

I'm still waiting on contact with my mole at Logos headquarters. He's gotta be real careful. They're brutal out there.

The way features have been culled from L3.... brutal is an understatement ;-)

Well spotted, Phil. The "Be Series" is one that works as expected. But there was an incomplete Series for the Tanakh!

I still think the best solution is to give users an "advanced option" to show prioritized resources by data type, and be able to drag and drop into that list in the section showing that particular data type.

FYI Resource prioritization is still in the works
