In Logos 8, the fully redesigned Home Page gets you into Logos quicker. Customize your launch pad for the ways you use Logos most, so you can launch right into your favorite workflows, reading plans, layouts, and more.

We've provided information on using the Home Page here:

One thing that I really liked about the old home page and used a lot was the easy access to my reading plan.

In Logos 7 the link for today's reading took me straight to the open Bible in my current workspace at the correct locations.

In Logos 8 it opens a new workspace, I'm sure that this is configurable but how to change this is not immediately obvious to me.

    Can anyone help? Please!!!

Each time I launch Logos 8, I have to keep resetting the home page to 'auto' for the columns to fill my screen. It seems to default to 4 columns which is annoying as I want it wider!

Thanks, Dan. Sorry for the inconvenience, we are working on persisting this setting.

Does anyone know when this will be fixed?

I accept that I can workaround this but wish that I knew about this before I took the plunge because like the Note function, where the changes were highlighted, its something that I use daily.

What is the logic for opening a new workspace?

Can you explain what you mean by "change Bibles"?

Your preferred bible is now set in the library. See the Quick Start Video on Library for further details.

In addition when you click on the menu on the left side you can see all the books downloaded or updated within a certain number of days.

You use to have 3 Bibles to set.  How do you change to set a different Bible?

Go box is completely neutered. Under previous versions entering a verse/ verse range automatically brought up a passage guide. Now all it does in verbum is open the bible to the verse. This is a major step back and will turn my study into a more complicated thing. I have no idea how to fix this. At thing point i really would love to downgrade to 7.

Type the reference or reference range, wait one second and click "Open Passage Guide"

When entering a reference, the box should provide you with a drop down menu of options. In the Layout category you will find "Open Passage to <reference>".

It looks like upgrading to Logos 8 is going to be more painful than I anticipated and I'm starting to regret not waiting longer. I was expecting a more polished Logos 7 and was certainly not expecting to have to watch a Quick Start Video on the Library to find out how to change the preferred Bible. It's beginning to feel like a lot of stuff that was not broken in 7 has been fixed in 8.

Personally I'm not a fan of videos so what I need is a Quick Start guide to what has changed, is there such a document?

This will be fixed in 8.1. For now, you just need to hit the down arrow before hitting enter or clicking Go.

Thanks Phil and everyone who has pointed out how to get the expected results to work just not something I have been use to in the past, this minor slow down of study is not the end of the world just frustrating.

In Logos 7 I could access "My Account" from the home page.

I have spent some time looking for that feature and cannot find it in Logos 8.

I suggest that access be placed where it has always been in the upper right-hand corner of the home page screen or at least be listed in the drop-down menu under those three vertical dots.

If there is a way to access "My Account" already, I hope someone can share how to do it in Logos 8.

Click on the dot menu on the right side of the screen then click "About Logos" There you will see the following:

Click on the dot menu on the right side of the screen then click "About Logos"

That is unless you are on MacOS, in which case you'll find this under the Logos Menu in the menu bar.

Hello Graham:  I'm not a power user and honest struggled quite a bit with Logos 7, and regularly voiced my opinion about it.  I think maybe just give it a couple of days and you will see that this version is MUCH MORE intuitive and much easier to use.  It kind of reminds me of when I switched from a PC laptop to a MAC (I got it for free or I never would have thought to switch).  I swear, I could have thrown that thing across the room.  Now, I couldn't imagine every purchasing a PC laptop.  To me, MAC is so much more intuitive and logical, but because I was used to the "old way," I thought it was better.  Honestly, give L8 a day or two and play around with it.  I think you're really going to like it.  Is it perfect?  No, but its WAAAAYYYY better than 7! :)

Where are the Quickstart 8 videos?

If you have the Quickstart Videos in your library, then you can view them within logos. If not then you cn view a library video here

    Hi Graham,

The videos are not long, easy to follow and go step by step through some of the changes and set up. Give them a try and I think many of your concerns will be resolved. If you still find things difficult or frustrating post back.

The "big picture" of what has changed is here: https://community.logos.com/forums/t/173743.aspx

The Home Page is all new, so there isn't a list of everything that is different from the previous version. That would be quite tedious. But apart from Notes, there's nothing else where there are major changes from L7 (there are major additions, of course, but that's a different issue). There are also changes to the Documents and Tools menu, and the Library, but there's very little lost functionality there.

PS - Do you change your preferred Bible often?

    Hi Cynthia

Not sure that I qualify as a power user but I am a long term user with well over 20 years of purchasing and using the Logos products. I used to spend a lot more time here in the forums and have previously participated in Beta testing. These days between Family, being a pastor and holding down a full time job I use Logos because it helps me to be productive when looking at God's Word. That's why I bought it and why I have invested a ridiculous amount of money in it.

When I sit down to prepare a sermon or Bible study I no longer want to play with the software for a few days so that I can get used to it, I want the software to let me get on with what I need to do. I don't have time to play with software, Logos is a tool, an expensive tool and I have an expectation that it will work and more importantly allow me to study with minimal fuss. Logos 7 may not have been perfect but it let me get on with the task in hand.

Exploring the Home Page and the Bible Reading Plan as an example. Fortunately I know enough about workspaces to know how to retrieve the one that Logos 8 decided to replace when I opened Today's Reading. I also knew how to then Open the Reading Plan and open today's reading in the workspace that I wanted to use i.e. my normal workspace. I wasted a few minutes, thanks to my 20 plus years of using Logos, for someone else the impact could have been far greater.

Sadly this is not the first time on my Logos journey that we have had new releases with "missing features" or "minor" workflow changes that proved major for some users. I read about the changes to Notes and decided the the benefits outweighed the pain of change but I did not read anywhere that opening a Reading Plan will automatically:

    • close your active workspace
    • create a new workspace with Logos determined content

I honestly can't see how in this context 8 is better than 7, sorry but that work flow is just plain dumb, it is broken. This implementation shows a total disregard for the existing user and I am surprised that this was not fixed in the Beta. The Logos developers should be embarrassed that the production release works this way.

As a long term user what I need more than anything from Logos 8 is for the basics to work the way they have always worked or at least be similar enough for me to figure it out without watching three videos and reading multiple posts on this forum.

At the moment Logos 8 is proving a time waster not a time saver and in all honesty I'm not seeing anything in Logos 8 that will help me get that time back in the near future.

In Logos 7, I had set what would come up on the home page to items I utilized most. Now, I am seeing things from Proclaim Blog and other items I don't normally use. Is there a way to decide what will and won't come up on the home page in the "Explore" section?
