Collections Difficulties in Logos 8 + Feature Request!

Hello all,

Collections is one of my favorite features in Logos. I've been a user for over a decade, and have built up specific collections for special purposes. Unfortunately, this feature in L8 is running very slowly for me, and seems to be very buggy. I have a lot of Early Church Fathers resources - at least 700, possibly more. (I don't know for sure, because adding to the collection after upgrading to Orthodox Diamond is so slow)
The problem is that building a collection is so tedious and slow and difficult. I started the collection by including all resources with 'fathers.' That gets at least half of my Early Church Fathers books, but no more than that. It also gets a lot of other resources that have nothing to do with the ECF. Unfortunately, adding a book to the collection (and removing a book) initiates a freeze to Logos that lasts anywhere from 7 seconds to almost a minute - very frustrating! Any tips here?

FEATURE REQUEST: A way for users to build collections with a 'bulk add' feature rather than ONE AT A TIME. One at a time takes forever, especially when the collection keeps jumping up to the top of the list at random times, and it takes more than one 'grab' of the mouse to move a resource from the library to the collection.

I love Logos, and think I am going to love L8 - the collection deal I got for upgrading was astonishingly good - but I'd love some thought and attention directed towards the Collections tab. It seems to have devolved from L7, and it already needed improvement there.

FYI: I am running Logos on a very good system - 3 months old, 1TB SSD drive, plenty of ram and HD space, and an excellent processor. My system can't be the issue.

Thank you!

    Open Library, select multiple resources (SHIFT+click for contiguous resources in list or else CMD+click for non-contiguous), and then open up the "resource information" panel and click on "save as collection"... it will then open up a collection creation tab.  see below.

    I'm not sure why you would add a resource "one at a time" to a collection. Play with writing good collection rules until you are capturing all of your desired resources. Another option would by to take advantage of the new Library filters. In the library panel you could search for fathers, then select all of the resources that come up by clicking the first one in the list, scrolling to the bottom shift-click the last resource in the list. Then in the information pane a command to save the selected resources to a collection will be present. Clicking that command will open the Collections tool and automatically add all of the selected resources. All you have to do is give the Collection a title.

    Collections can be very useful, and many users have created very complex collection rules. You may want to review the information on these wiki pages

    I agre. One at a time or even selecting multiple at a time seems tedious. If your desired colection  such that it‘s not amenable to a collection rule, then I would go with tagging. It creates a de facto collection. But if you still want the collection, then the rule is easy. It’s just mytag:xxxxxxxxxx

    You need a good collection rule. Here is a sample based on Series data for some of the church fathers I own (I have many fewer than you):

    {Series "The Apostolic Fathers", "Catena Aurea", "Corpus Ignatianum", "Early Church Classics", "Early Church Fathers (Protestant Edition)", "The Editio Princeps of the Epistle of Barnabas", "The Epistles of St. Clement to the Corinthians in Syriac", "The Fathers for English Readers", "The Fathers of the Church", "Lake’s Apostolic Fathers"}

    You can find Series names by sorting your Library by Series. The syntax of these searches is very specific. You can find more here:

    You could add {Author "xxx", "yyy"} or (Title: "zzz", "vvv") simply by adding the word OR before the new descriptor (note the difference between the brackets and the presence or absence of a semicolon).

    I suspect the slowness you are experiencing is because you are building a very large collection one book at a time.  A well written collection rule will catch most of your resources leaving just a few to add or subtract manually. Not only will this speed you up now, it will make loading Logos much faster.

    Thank you, Karl!  Shift+ Click was very helpful. I did find that you have to click under the 'author' column to do this. If you click under the title column, Logos will open the particular resource.

    Thank you, Mark! Ultimately, good collection rules did indeed help, but it could not account for every church fathers book I have with them. I solved the problem overall by searching for resources in the book/library view, shift-clicking on the title of pertinent books, and then adding a tag of 'churchfathers' to them in the resource window. After that, I built a collection of books from that tag. I appreciate your help!
