Some of you might be familiar with the annual Logos march matchup sale. This year Verbum has one of its own!
The Church Fathers are squaring off against one another in the Feud of the Fathers. We love them all, but only one can be champion.

Fantastic news. I'm intrigued to see what's on offer for Logos but, before the announcement, the main thing I was hoping for was the possibility of discounts on the Fathers. I was a bit gutted to see they weren't going to be included given the chosen format - finding out they actually get a whole competition to themselves is wonderful! Can't wait for it to go live!

Somewhat less fantastic now I see that the discounts are for large bundles rather than individual resources - I can't afford them, discounted or not. No point in voting now. Oh, well.

I also want to note that the size and price of collections were compiled to make them more affordable.
The prices of the collections before the discounts range from about $150 up to the $400s. Most fall somewhere in between.
I hope this is a fun way to build out key resources for your libraries, like it has been for Logos for years.

I‘d put aside $50-70 for a few selected volumes - it was a bit of a stretch, but March Madness would normally allow me to get a few choice resources for that, so I made the effort. The resources I’m most interested aren’t going to get in that price range regardless of whether they win or not. It’s fine. You win some, you lose some. For those who’ve been able to save more, there’s some exciting stuff there.

The current pricing isn't encouraging one to buy. The only set that I don't already own is Monastic Fathers, Western Collection. The three resources that would be new to me, if sold separately, would add up to about $68. The dynamic price being shown above is $53.42. Granted, if 20% is added to that it would help a little, but I'm just thinking that in a monthly sale I could pick these resources off on their own for at least that much if not more.

These bundles were assembled by taking regular-priced works, putting them together at their regular prices, and then applying FF discounts. Yes, sales on individual resources not infrequently exceed 20%, and much less frequently hit or exceed 40%, but this is a first-time FF for Verbum, and for people who care about a particular Father/group of Fathers and lack the resources, this year's FF is a good way to collect them all now., especially those of the winner. (I'm expecting St. Augustine to win.) Think of this year's FF as a nice supplement to the March monthly sale, not as an ought-to-be-like-MM thing. The more voting for--and also buying--of resources there is this year, the more likely that next March Verbum will have something on offer like or better than this year's FF. Maybe next year we'll get an FF bracket and a medieval bracket. Or a combined one. Or a modern Catholic authors bracket. Or Catholic journals. Or maybe there'll be Verbum Mobile Ed by next year and that will open up more opportunities. I don't know.
But this year, it's nice to have FF as it is. It sure beats having nothing.
EDIT: I notice that there are a bunch of medieval works on sale this month. Both of those sales are under 40%, and they're on big bundles, not individual books or small bundles.

SineNomine is right on about FF this year for Verbum--and very well put, thank you. Last year was Verbum's first-ever participation in March Madness. This year, we decided to do a small bracket and to see how it would go. Next year, we'll build on that, whatever that may look like.
I would advise that regardless of whether you choose to buy--please participate and vote. Yes, of course I want everyone to buy all of these collections I've pulled together, but please vote and have a little fun with it. Participation, as well as buying, is a gauge of interest for us and will have an impact on what we do next year.
Let the feud continue.... ;-)
