Copying Footnotes to Word
Could someone help:
Since I upgraded to Logos 8 from Logos 7 I am having trouble with copying text in logos into Word with the automatic footnote feature in Logos. When I right click on the selection in a resource in Logos 8 such as Zerwick and then try to paste the highlighted selection into into Word, extra lines are placed above my footnote in the Word Doc with characters from the selection copied on different lines above the actually footnote citation. I then have to delete the un-needed text. I then cannot delete the extra lines above the footnote to correct the problem.
It appears that Logos 8 has a problem with just copying the selection that is highlighted in the Logos resource. I adds extra words and lines above the footnote. I never had this problem in Logos 7.
Here is an example of what what gets copied in my footnote when I try the past the following highlighted text "μετα-στρέψαι aor. inf. -στρέφω over-turn; misrepresent, distort."
aor. aorist (tense)
inf. infinitive
Max Zerwick and Mary Grosvenor, A Grammatical Analysis of the Greek New Testament (Rome: Biblical Institute Press, 1974), 564
It's a mess.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Don

Hi Don
Are you running the stable release of 8.0 or the beta release of 8.1?
I ask because a footnote-related bug was introduced in 8.1 beta 3 as per https://community.logos.com/forums/t/175869.aspx and I wonder if this is related
I think - but am not sure - that in previous versions the additional words would have been copied into Word but would have appeared in the footnotes area instead of the main text

Pastor Don,
Did you ever get this issue figured out? I am trying to get Word to automatically footnote when I copy something from Logos, but no avail.
Blessings,

Dear Andre:
Here are the steps to automatically footnote in Word what you copy and paste.
- Go to the tools tab at the top.
- Scroll down to "program settings."
- Choose "Yes" for copy citations
- Under "Copy footnote as" choose "footnote"
That should do what you need.
Happy footnoting!
In Christ,
Don

Don,
Thanks for responding. After I copied it, here is what showed in Word:
Oracle of David (Heb. nĕʾum Dāwid) indicates that David is speaking as a prophet, and uttering a divine word. This is expressly stated in verses 2–3. The poem has been studied in some detail by H. Neil Richardson
Joyce G. Baldwin, 1 and 2 Samuel: An Introduction and Commentary, vol. 8, Tyndale Old Testament Commentaries (Downers Grove, IL: InterVarsity Press, 1988), 311.
It looks like it cited the text right after what I copied from Logos, but it is still not creating footnotes in Word. Is it possible that I need to do something in Word or perhaps it is because I am using Word on a Mac?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Don,
I copied your settings and still ended up with the same thing. I am thinking that it might be because I am using a Mac? Are you using a PC? I don't know what to do next, perhaps I will try to reach out to Logos tomorrow. Thanks again and if you come up with anything else to try, please let me know.

What version of Logos are you using. In 8.6 Beta 2 (Mac OS 10.14.5) footnotes works correctly for data pasted into MS Word.

Dear Andre:
I am using version 8.5 with windows 10. I would encourage you to call Logos. Lord willing, they will be able to help you.
God bless,
Don

Is there a plan to bring the copying feature for footnotes to pages and google docs? It’s a bit confounding that Logos has run on Macs for years but don’t support this feature in its on board word processor.

It does... with the old version of pages. Apple made some significant changes to pages which broke compatibility with a number of features... not only for Logos, but for other apps as well. I don't know if Apple has yet created a way for developers to add back the features that they took away.

What about google docs? Google Docs has the same issue in that it pastes the entire citation directly into the body of the text instead of in a footnote format.

Are you saying the footnoting works with MS word with your Mac?
I know footnoting works with MS word with PC. So if you have a Mac, did you have to purchase MS Word?

I have a Mac and MS Word, but am still unable to make it work correctly. This is a huge bummer for me, especially when I am using it for school papers. Hopefully the issue will be resolved in the near future. I have a 15 page paper coming up, but the last few I have had to do it the "old fashioned" and tedious way.
