ATTN FAITHLIFE: Annoyance: Floating Library scrolling back to top after you drag a book from it to C

If you open a floating library window and drag several books from it, one by one, into the "Plus these resources" section of a Collection definition, every time you drop a book, the Library window scrolls back up to the top, so you have to scroll down again to find where you were. This is very inconvenient if you're trying to add several books in a row.

Furthermore, it would be really nice (and would make the above problem basically moot) if you could select several books in the Library that you want to add to the "Plus these resources" section and drag them all at once. But if you do a multi-book select, dragging only drags the one you clicked on.

Totally agree in the multi-book drag to collections (except maybe it's time to totally overhaul collections!).

Maybe so, but Lord, help us. The other complete overhauls have at times become snafu'ed clusters. (Things have gone from simple to use and not working well to very complex and not working well.)

Sorry to hear you actually gave up! Did you know that you can use tags, existing collections, etc, to filter your library, then Cmd+A to select all and save those as a collection? This will allow you to get the bulk of what you want to include in the "first pass," negating the need to drag-n-drop an inordinate amount of individual books

The one time I tried to drag a collection to another collection's "Minus these resources," it didn't work, no matter where I hovered. It would open a tab or split the pane.

Might have been my inexperience, but it wasn't obvious why it didn't work as expected.

FYI, I was trying to drop a collection for this exact reason, that resources could only be added/removed one-by-one, and that wasn't feasible, considering the number of resources I wanted to omit. I gave up and found a different approach using the library to accomplish what I wanted.

Thanks for that reminder. I do often use tags and library filters to help in a first pass creating a collection. In this case I wanted to examine individual books that had come up in my filter and see if I wanted them in my new collection. I could have added another tag to them one by one as I decided "yup, this one goes in the collection" but I don't like to create a huge proliferation of tags, especially ones that are in a one-to-one relationship with collections. However a temporary tag would have probably done the trick. The only problem is, when you've already got the collection and you want to add the newly selected/tagged titles to an existing one, "Save as Collection" is another level of indirection. Yes you could then add that inconsequential partial collection to the collection you're building up, but then it clutters your list of collections, as it has no other purpose other than to help you build up a larger collection. Personally, I'd rather be able to drag several titles at a time into a collection.

EDIT: Actually, using a temporary tag to do this task doesn't help either, because every time you add a tag, the "Updating library catalog" message comes up, and as soon as the catalog is updated, the Library scrolls back up to the top again, so you have to scroll back down to where you were working your way through the filtered list of books.

Hi Reuben. Thanks for that, I was aware of it. The trouble is that at some point I am going to have to remove certain resources that don't conform to a pattern. With almost 3,000 resources it becomes an extremely time consuming chore keep going back to the beginning.

I am in no way saying that the Collections tool is what it should be, I was only surprised that someone would need to give up in frustration while trying to create (not modify) a collection. I do think it's time for some major improvements such as allowing a faceted/filtered library being sent to the plus/minus these resource, and expandable (even syntax highlighted!) rule field, etc.

To be clear, I didn't give up in frustration, even though I was trying to gradually build up (i.e., created to begin with but then modified by adding more titles) a collection. It took forever, but I finally finished my goal. I can be persistent like that, even while griping under my breath that it's not as easy as it should be.
