Berkhof Collection ... resources not downloaded

I have just got the 'your credit card has been charged' email about the Berkhof collection.

I restarted Logos, it download new resources, but my library is only showing 'The History of Christian Doctrines'. I have no other 'new' resources (rating:0) or resources with author:Berkhof; and I did not have this resource before today.

Update Resources tells me that there are no resources to download.

I have restarted Logos twice more with no further downloads. Neither has the indexer kicked in (presumably my library is up to date at least with the resources on my drive)

Anybody else seeing this?

(BTW I am running 4c B1, so it could be a bug there but my initial instinct suggests not).

    I'm experiencing the same.

    I'm getting the same.

I've received the History of Christian Doctrine.  But I notice one more thing.  It tries to download and index at the same time.  An icon tells me that I have 18.3MB to download but this icon disappears after a moment (much to soon for that download to have been completed).  Upon a Logos restart I get the same: shows a download available but then its gone.  Indexing (of the History) quits after that download notice happens.

    Me too

It was reporting about 33% of the 18.3Mb before vanishing.

    Same here.

Can you download the versions on the Logos webpage and then use the Logos scan command?

I am having the same problem. Currently Logos is indexing (7 hours remaining) but I still can not see the books!

Is anyone experiencing this problem NOT running the beta?  I tried to talk to tech support about this (for the last hour) and when I finally got up the chain I was brushed off with "we can't help with the beta."  I don't see how a downloading issue is related to the Beta, but unless we are going to wait until Monday (the dreaded Friday release again) for a fix, a non-beta user needs to contact Logos.

Here's a potential solution for all of you without having to call Logos, assuming you still have Logos 3 (Libronix). If you don't, but you have space for it on your hard disk, it's a good idea to keep it around for such issues as this, or the occasional CD-ROM only third-party Logos book that ships in Libronix format. You can download it from http://www.logos.com/support/downloads/ldls.

So, here's the solution: I was having the same problem as you all. But then I tried running the lbxupd (Libronix Update) script that came as an attachment on the email Logos sent me announcing this this pre-pub is ready to be downloaded (if that doesn't work, you could also log on to logos.com and go to your Order History page, click on the order # for the Berkhof Collection, click on "Download Instructions for Previous Versions" and then click "Unlock & Download"). It downloaded something for L3, but L4 still couldn't recognize that there was anything new available, even when I typed "update now." So then I went back into L3 and ran Tools > Account Management > Synchronize Licenses, and voila! L4 immediately recognized that there was something new to download - 18.7 MB worth to be exact. Once that downloaded I restarted Logos and this time it said it had 18.3 MB to download. I downloaded that and now I've got all the Berkhof works. I didn't notice when Indexing took place, but it must have without my noticing. Berkhof's works are all in my library now, and I can open them and Search finds things in them.

It's quite disappointing that products are still getting shipped that require L3 (or a call to Customer Service to unlock them which I presume would also work if you don't have L3 anymore) in order to get them to download in L4.

    Fred,

I'm not running the Beta and I'm having the problem too.  I came here before reporting the problem.  I hope it's not going to require a manual download.

Logos is definitely aware of this problem...I got an email from Tech Support about it.

They were wondering if this was an issue still or did the rest come; so far I have the same symptoms as everyone else.

I tried Rosie's solution - to no avail.

Frankly, I am starting to get really sick of this.  Logos keeps pushing out new resources and they have significant problems.  This happened with Tyndale, Calvin 500 and now Berkhof.  Could someone please test this before you go live.  And could we stop going live with new resources on Friday?  Can Logos possibly learn from their mistakes?!?

Now I have paid for resources I should be able to use - and need to use (yes, I am working on a class on the Deity of Christ and purposefully left my books at the office to work using Logos tonight and tomorrow) and if the past is any guide, this will not be fixed until sometime late on Monday.  If this were the first time I'd be more patient.  Maybe even the second.  But it is at least the third by my reckoning.

Logos, please get your act together.

I have the resources in my L4, but that is because it copied them from L3. Everytime I start L4 it says update available and wants to download this 18.3mb of files. When I let it download it finishes very quickly, but no indexing. When I check the logs, it  tells me on all the downloads that it failed.

If I close L4 and restart it will give me the same message again.

I'm not using the beta program

I know this is frustrating - I'm getting the same error that everyone else is. But if you have to have them for this weekend, you can get them in L3 if you still have that installed.

It's definitely a server issue. The file that downloads is a .logos4 file, but the files that fail are .lbxls files. The filedates are all different, too. I assume someone in Bellingham has thrown the wrong switch.

    Gary,

I'm frustrated because this keeps happening over and over again.  I was not itching to get Berkhof today - I was responding to an email that told me I would be getting Berkhof and that my credit card had been charged.  I have to say, this has been the norm lately for Logos, and it does not look good.

And the problem is not limited to the resources. Obviously because of an issue with the download, every time I open Logos 4 my system freezes up doing indexing that is not really indexing, and downloads that are not downloads.

Then someone needs to fix the switch before they go home tonight.  That's what I would do - and have done before when something needed fixing.

If anyone speaks to tech support, the problem is that Logos 4 is requesting the church history files like this:

That downloads fine. But all the other file URLs look like this:

Notice the very different datestamp and old Logos file extension. Those files return a 403 Forbidden error.

On my old laptop, which has L3 and L4, I was able to bring in Berkhof in via L3 and then into L4 on that computer.  But on the main laptop, a new one running windows 7 and upon which I am the only user, my L4 won't pick up Berkhof at all apart from the one volume.

I'm stuck in perpetual attempts to download the 18M/index/restart/detect/download/etc.  I took just see that one resource.

I understand the frustration voiced earlier about these recent problems with resources/availability and the tendency to hit them right before/in a weekend.

Many thanks to Rosie and Mark; following their directions I've now got all the resources showing in L4.

but, L4 did try to download the 18M resources again.  Now it's decided to reindex instead.  Hopefully it settles down, or I'll have to take away it's Internet access.

Well, it looks like I may be prepping my lesson old-school with L3 & paper books this weekend...L4 became unstable after forcing the Berkhof books in.  I'll attach some logs for those who may be interested/in hopes Logos developers are still working on this problem.

I may try forcing a reindex in hopes that stabilizes things...but these constant attempts to download will probably goof that up.  My computer just attempted a 6MB download...wonder what that was.

I'm experiencing the same problems described above...frustrating. So, I manually downloaded the files, scanned the folder, and now have all 15 resources. As you might expect, 14 of them are lbxlls files and only The History of Christian Doctrines is logos4. Ran "update now" and then "update resources"; no updates, no indexing, nothing.

    Ideas?

Same issues here -- I was excited to see the email from Logos saying the resources were now available.  Now, it won't download and is constantly re-indexing.  I wish these weren't released on a Friday afternoon, because it may be Monday before we see a fix.

I was able to get the resources to download (see my procedure described on this other thread), but it did download them a second time. And if I type "update now" it thinks they are still needing to be downloaded and does it again (18.3 MB).

It didn't appear to do any indexing after I downloaded the files even the first time, but they are apparently still searchable. I selected a random but sure-to-be unique phrase from one of the Berkhof books and did a Basic Search through my whole library for it, and that book was found. Interestingly and oddly, it was found both in "New Resources" (the new part of the index that needs to be merged in) and in "Library Results":

    image

    That is bizarre.

This may mean they really did download twice. They only show up under "New resources" for me.

Sorry, Mark, no consolation for me.  Now my PC is unusable since the CPU is pegged indexing.  I'm going to guess that it still won't work when they are done.

If there is not a swift answer on Monday morning, I'm going to demand my money back on principle.  This kind of horrible business practice (promise, under-deliver or fail to deliver, then be closed for a couple of days) is ridiculous.  Until this practice with new books gets fixed, I will refuse to recommend Logos 4 to anyone.

    Fred,

Hang in there, when the indexing is finished you will be able to use your resources, Berkhof is definitely worth a little grief. but I too am not happy with all the recent releases that have problems, especially with metadata. I hope Logos is able to get this stuff solved sooner rather than later.

I had a major index to install 4.0cB1 and after downloading Berkhof into L3 and scaned into L4, I have been thrown into another major indexing[:(]

If we're getting a mix of L3 files (14) and L4 files (1), it seems like a waste of time to index. When they get the problem fixed, we'll have to do it again, right?

Bobby, I hate to say it, but the reindexing might not bring the books up.  Mine downloaded one of the Berkhof books, then reindexed.  It never told me the others weren't downloaded.  My system is fast but it still took a few hours.  However, when it was done only one book was there.

Fred, Don't throw out the baby with the bath water.  Yeah, it's a goof up.  However, the system is so complex and so many things work really well, you need to give Logos some slack.

BTW I didn't know about LIbrary.Logos.com - wow it is really fast!  It is handy for quick look ups.

    Steve,

I'd love to give Logos slack.  In fact, I have been a pretty big Logos cheerleader in my corner of the world (Reformed Presbyterians).  But this same problem has happened over and over again, and in every one of the latest new releases, including big ones like Calvin 500 and Tyndale.  You just can't go around constantly messing up when folks spend a chunk of change for a product.  It's been like clockwork: (1) release a new title; (2) release is on a Friday; (3) release does not work properly; (4) forum fills us with questions, complaints, concerns; (5) Logos closes Friday afternoon; (6) no word from Logos until Monday; (7) no fix until Monday or Tuesday.

    It's really bad business.

    Steve,

For my install I had used the email from Logos with the link provided and downloaded and unlocked everything into L3. Then I scaned L3 to pull over the Berkhof files. I too have 14 Lbxlls books and 1 logos4 book, but after indexing I was able to search everything just fine.

In the past when I have had files in lbxlls load first into L4 and then indexed, I found that later when logos4 files were downloaded to replace them the indexing was minimal. But that is just my milage on the issue.

    Ditto.

It's more than three times...I've been lurking in the forums for a few months now and this seem to be a common problem lately -- and it's also getting me a bit perturbed. I've purchased the same sets as you and have had the same exact problems. At times it seems we are being taking advantage of and it's not a good thing to contemplate.

The attitude seems to be - let's charge their cards and release on Friday no matter if it ready or not - they won't notice until the following week. Again, not a good thing to contemplate, reminds me of the old check kiting schemes. Very uncool and very unprofessional.

Before the regulars chime in, I've spent over $9,800 in the past year and have another $3,000 on pre-pub and been a Logos user for a few years. However, Logos reputation is taking a well deserved beating. All I want, and deserve, is to get what I paid for when I pay for it. No excuses.

I do not have a beta and I am having the exact issue everyone else is having.  I have the latest version.  The exact same thing is happening on my laptop and desktop.  Something is not right with the download process.  I am stuck, like everybody else, as 24% done of 18.3mb.   I guess all we can do is wait til Monday.

I had the same problem as you, my Benjamins were gone and still no sign of Louie!

Hovever, I downloaded the resources to L3 & synchronized licenses, scanned the drive path in L4 & updated the resources, indexed for 3 hours - and now Louie showed up!

I will never delete L3 because this is how I download all my resources - Calvin, AMG Esstentials, Berkhof, etc.

It's not the pretty way to do it, but it works.  Good luck.

Ok, so I am not the only one having problem with getting the Berkolf downloads.....  My one keep trying to reindex and redownload the 18.7mb package....  I will give the Logos 3 solution a go frist, then see if the Logos 4 can pick up the resource later.

If you can't get out of the download loop by using L3 to get the resource(s) then set Automatically Download Updates = NO in Program Settings. It will notify you that a download is available but don't accept it until you know (or hope!) the problem is fixed - give it a couple of days.
