Berkhof Collection ... resources not downloaded

I have just got the 'your credit card has been charged' email about the Berkhof collection.

I restarted Logos, it download new resources, but my library is only showing 'The History of Christian Doctrines'. I have no other 'new' resources (rating:0) or resources with author:Berkhof; and I did not have this resource before today.

Update Resources tells me that there are no resources to download.

I have restarted Logos twice more with no further downloads. Neither has the indexer kicked in (presumably my library is up to date at least with the resources on my drive)

Anybody else seeing this?

(BTW I am running 4c B1, so it could be a bug there but my initial instinct suggests not).

    I'm getting the same.

I've received the History of Christian Doctrine.  But I notice one more thing.  It tries to download and index at the same time.  An icon tells me that I have 18.3MB to download but this icon disappears after a moment (much to soon for that download to have been completed).  Upon a Logos restart I get the same: shows a download available but then its gone.  Indexing (of the History) quits after that download notice happens.

    Me too

It was reporting about 33% of the 18.3Mb before vanishing.

I am having the same problem. Currently Logos is indexing (7 hours remaining) but I still can not see the books!

Is anyone experiencing this problem NOT running the beta?  I tried to talk to tech support about this (for the last hour) and when I finally got up the chain I was brushed off with "we can't help with the beta."  I don't see how a downloading issue is related to the Beta, but unless we are going to wait until Monday (the dreaded Friday release again) for a fix, a non-beta user needs to contact Logos.

I'm not using beta and am experiencing the problem.

I'm also in London--can someone ring support on behalf of us all?

    Fred,

I'm not running the Beta and I'm having the problem too.  I came here before reporting the problem.  I hope it's not going to require a manual download.

Logos is definitely aware of this problem...I got an email from Tech Support about it.

They were wondering if this was an issue still or did the rest come; so far I have the same symptoms as everyone else.

I tried Rosie's solution - to no avail.

Frankly, I am starting to get really sick of this.  Logos keeps pushing out new resources and they have significant problems.  This happened with Tyndale, Calvin 500 and now Berkhof.  Could someone please test this before you go live.  And could we stop going live with new resources on Friday?  Can Logos possibly learn from their mistakes?!?

Now I have paid for resources I should be able to use - and need to use (yes, I am working on a class on the Deity of Christ and purposefully left my books at the office to work using Logos tonight and tomorrow) and if the past is any guide, this will not be fixed until sometime late on Monday.  If this were the first time I'd be more patient.  Maybe even the second.  But it is at least the third by my reckoning.

Logos, please get your act together.

I know this is frustrating - I'm getting the same error that everyone else is. But if you have to have them for this weekend, you can get them in L3 if you still have that installed.

It's definitely a server issue. The file that downloads is a .logos4 file, but the files that fail are .lbxls files. The filedates are all different, too. I assume someone in Bellingham has thrown the wrong switch.

Then someone needs to fix the switch before they go home tonight.  That's what I would do - and have done before when something needed fixing.

I do not have a beta and I am having the exact issue everyone else is having.  I have the latest version.  The exact same thing is happening on my laptop and desktop.  Something is not right with the download process.  I am stuck, like everybody else, as 24% done of 18.3mb.   I guess all we can do is wait til Monday.

Here's a potential solution for all of you without having to call Logos, assuming you still have Logos 3 (Libronix). If you don't, but you have space for it on your hard disk, it's a good idea to keep it around for such issues as this, or the occasional CD-ROM only third-party Logos book that ships in Libronix format. You can download it from http://www.logos.com/support/downloads/ldls.

So, here's the solution: I was having the same problem as you all. But then I tried running the lbxupd (Libronix Update) script that came as an attachment on the email Logos sent me announcing this this pre-pub is ready to be downloaded (if that doesn't work, you could also log on to logos.com and go to your Order History page, click on the order # for the Berkhof Collection, click on "Download Instructions for Previous Versions" and then click "Unlock & Download"). It downloaded something for L3, but L4 still couldn't recognize that there was anything new available, even when I typed "update now." So then I went back into L3 and ran Tools > Account Management > Synchronize Licenses, and voila! L4 immediately recognized that there was something new to download - 18.7 MB worth to be exact. Once that downloaded I restarted Logos and this time it said it had 18.3 MB to download. I downloaded that and now I've got all the Berkhof works. I didn't notice when Indexing took place, but it must have without my noticing. Berkhof's works are all in my library now, and I can open them and Search finds things in them.

It's quite disappointing that products are still getting shipped that require L3 (or a call to Customer Service to unlock them which I presume would also work if you don't have L3 anymore) in order to get them to download in L4.

I restarted Logos, it download new resources, but my library is only showing 'The History of Christian Doctrines'.

If it's any consolation, all 15 resource are available on the iPhone and on library.logos.com!

Sorry, Mark, no consolation for me.  Now my PC is unusable since the CPU is pegged indexing.  I'm going to guess that it still won't work when they are done.

If there is not a swift answer on Monday morning, I'm going to demand my money back on principle.  This kind of horrible business practice (promise, under-deliver or fail to deliver, then be closed for a couple of days) is ridiculous.  Until this practice with new books gets fixed, I will refuse to recommend Logos 4 to anyone.

    Fred,

Hang in there, when the indexing is finished you will be able to use your resources, Berkhof is definitely worth a little grief. but I too am not happy with all the recent releases that have problems, especially with metadata. I hope Logos is able to get this stuff solved sooner rather than later.

I had a major index to install 4.0cB1 and after downloading Berkhof into L3 and scaned into L4, I have been thrown into another major indexing[:(]

If we're getting a mix of L3 files (14) and L4 files (1), it seems like a waste of time to index. When they get the problem fixed, we'll have to do it again, right?

Bobby, I hate to say it, but the reindexing might not bring the books up.  Mine downloaded one of the Berkhof books, then reindexed.  It never told me the others weren't downloaded.  My system is fast but it still took a few hours.  However, when it was done only one book was there.

Fred, Don't throw out the baby with the bath water.  Yeah, it's a goof up.  However, the system is so complex and so many things work really well, you need to give Logos some slack.

BTW I didn't know about LIbrary.Logos.com - wow it is really fast!  It is handy for quick look ups.

YES!  I ordered the same series and credit card has was charged but NO download.

This is another example of why L4 is still a beta product.    With problems like this, it is hard to argue otherwise.  I think it has great potential, and will someday surpass L3.  But in the mean time people have to be willing to deal with problems, and be patient.  I downloaded Berkhof into L3 and had it set up in a collection in less that 5 minutes.  I suggest that people run Both L3 & L4 to minimize frustration.

I did not get the Berkof Collection, yet. But from all the reports posted, it sounds more like a mistake in what files are downloaded, not a problem with Version 4. I would recommend not indexing until we hear differently. I'm afraid the indexing will be continous and unsuccessful until the correct files are downloaded.

Yes,  Version 3 is still very much alive & useful.

I'm in the same boat.  L4 keeps wanting to download 18.3 MB of resources (Berkhoff) but it never downloads right and keeps trying to download again.   Massive indexing has also started on my netbook.    Very annoying and makes me start rethinking how many more resources I want to add to my Logos4 given the issues with performance.

This is all hypothetical since I haven't bought Berkof yet.

If I am sporting a 13GB resource collection do I really need to re-index after a little 25mb Berkof download? Then Monday I'm supposed to get two more tiny Pre-Pub titles. Will re-indexing happen again? If it wouldn't seriously degrade my functionality it would be nice to schedule indexing for every week or two or even monthly. I am not talking about turning off auto update. I would not get my new titles if I did that. I am only concerned with my poor hard drive spinning 24hrs a day.  (I've been taught that technically it doesn't hurt the drive but I can measure temperature increases when it does continuously spin.

    Me too!

    Hey Everyone,

Our apologies for the delay and all thr trouble. We did find a problem in our Distribution data that was preventing the download of Berkhof's books in Logos 4. This has been repaired on our end, but it is possible that you have already downloaded the bad data which is causing the error.

To repair this, close Logos 4 and Right-Click on your Logos 4 Shortcut and select Properties. You should find a button labelled "Find Target" (on XP) or "Open file location" (Vista/Windows 7). Click that and it will open your Logos 4 folder.

In the Logos 4 folder, open the Data folder, open the sub-folder there (it will have a different name for every user), and Delete the "UpdateManager" folder.

Launch Logos 4 and it should download properly now. If it doesn't, let us know.

    Mike,

Thanks for posting the fix. I followed your instructions and am now waiting for 3+ hours of indexing to see if it took.

I did notice that most of the Berhof resources are still not logos4. Is that right? Can you confirm for us which files should be logos4 and which, if any, are the older format?

    Thanks

I am really getting frustrated with Logos. Can anyone tell me how to stop the indexing so I can try the fix?

Press ctrl alt del and go to the process tab. End the logosindex file. That should work.

If you have the little Logos icon in your tray (usually on the right side of the bottom bar--it may be hidden so there could be an arrow pointing left or up depending on Windows version--click the arrow to reveal), you can pause the Logos Indexer for up to 4 hours until it starts again.   Just right click on the icon and select "pause".

If it doesn't stop after a few seconds (it takes a little bit to write down a checkpoint so it can pick up where it left) then you may have to kill it the hard way.   With Logos4 open To do this, you will bring up the Windows Task Manager (right click on the bottom windows bar and select "Task Manager" or use ctrl-alt-del and select "Task Manager".)   Go to the processes tab and scroll down the image names until you see something like "Logos4Indexer" or "LogosIndexer" (I forget the exact image name but it should start with Logos.   Also, do not select "Logos4.exe" as this is your open session of Logos . . .)   Select this indexer process and use the "end process" button in the lower right of the task manager.   That should stop the indexing, but as soon as you restart Logos, the indexer will likely come back to life.

Yes, like many of our pre-pubs, Berkhof is in Libronix-Compatible format (.lbxlls).

I just finished 13+ hours of indexing. Everything works. It's now searchable, and it appears that all the Berkhof resources are now in the correct format (logos4).

Yes, like many of our pre-pubs, Berkhof is in Libronix-Compatible format (.lbxlls).

Hmmm, you mean most of the new resources use the old format?

Yes I have the same problem and it seems to be stopping other things from downloading.  Over the weekend I couldn't download 18.3MB, it then grew to 59.6 but now it's back to 18.3 MB.

What same problem?  You should now be able to download Berkhof as others have stated. If there is an issue please provide logs (http://wiki.logos.com/Diagnostic_Logging).
