Controlling OBS live stream through Proclaim
Hi everyone,
Our church as recently started live streaming our services on Facebook. I decided to use OBS (specifically Streamlabs OBS) as our broadcasting software. As a smaller church without a dedicated camera crew, I thought it would be nice if I could have proclaim control scene changes on OBS automatically as we progress through our service schedule. I figured out a way to do this through Proclaim's Lighting/Midi control functionality plus a couple of free programs. I decided to write a very quick blog post about this and share it over here in case anyone else is in a similar position. You can find details on the setup HERE.
Also if anyone is looking for some information on equipment to start live streaming, here is the equipment that we were able to pick up at the local Best Buy.
HDMI Capture device - Avermedia Live Streamer - (Note: Best buy sells several different capture devices, but this is the only one in our area, yours may vary, but they should all work about the same)
Camcorder with HDMI output - Canon R800 - (Once again, I'm sure availability varies by store, but as long as you get one with HDMI output, you should be good)
Tripod - Any tripod should do.
Open Broadcast Software (OBS) - Free!
We chose a camcorder as we were able to set it up back in the sound booth and use the zoom to get a good frame of the platform. OBS made it easy to add the capture device (and camera) and also allowed us to capture Proclaims Presentation window and scale it down to put in the corner of our live feed. We were fortunate in that we already have our soundboard sending a clear audio feed to our PC so we were able to pipe that into our live stream, but the camcorder had a 3.5mm mic in port as well as a built in mic that would probably work OK in a pinch.

Awesome, I was considering a second computer to run OBS and grab the video feed, but this might solve the problem.
Just saw that all the programs required were Windows, are you aware of any Mac equivalents?

OBS has a Mac version and Streamlabs OBS released a beta version for Mac this week.

Has anyone had any success on Mac. I spent some time today but was not quite able to get it to work.
I have Proclaim, OBS and the Mac IAC Midi driver all working.
I initially tried using Midistroke as the Midi to keystroke converter but seems it only works with programs in the foreground.
I then tried Quickeys, and was able to progress a little further. Namely, I was able to trigger keystrokes from quickeys. For example, when I set the keystroke to 'a' and as I pushed 'preview' in the proclaim Midi setup window, I could see it pushing out 'a's'. But OBS wasn't reading these keystrokes. OBS would read the keystroke in other setups, i.e. background minimized etc. But wouldn't read it with the setup Proclaim > Quickeys > OBS.
Any thoughts on this. I'm not a Mac person myself, but it's what I have inherited from the previous Pastor.

Just an update, I was able to get it working on Mac using Quickeys. I needed to add in the extra step of switching between programs.
I.e.,
Switch to 'OBS'
Keystroke 'A'
Switch to 'Proclaim'

Thanks for all the helpful information on the Mac equivalent. I could not use QuicKeys (doesn't work for Majave & Catalina) but Keyboard Maestro worked great.

Hi Kevin,
I retired this year, but I'm getting some tech support question from my previous congregation. Specifically, they say that the midi scene change setup you describe in the blog post is no longer passing scene change data from Proclaim to OBS. Is it still working for you? Testing in MidiKey2Key works fine, but not via the midi controls on Proclaim.

I actually changed my setup earlier this year so I am now using an alternative to midiey2key and using OBS instead of Stream labs OBS. I still have everything installed from the old system, so I will give it a test. I have noticed that I intermittently had some issues where things were not working and it just seemed like Proclaim wasn't sending signals like it was supposed to. Usually a reboot of the PC would solve this.

Add an OBS window source to capture the logos software screen. If you want to use proclaim to toggle the visibility, you would do the add a shortcut key the same way as scene switching
