have you ever thought of marketing for Burger King?
I was going to play along, but am uncertain about the reference. Do you want to build this from the ground up?
...sorry...random thought that your profile avatar kind of resembled the BK guy.
Hahaha. That's actually the head to my G.I. Joe, from child-hood. Sad thing is, if I posted my actual picture, it would vary only slightly.

Is anyone else kind of embarrassed by the fact that this is not a thing yet? Like, I know FL only has a limited number of resources and is probably working hard on Logo 9 features, but in my opinion this should NOT be a Logo 9 exclusive feature—but I have a feeling not only will we indeed have to wait that long, but we will have to pay for it.

It's mainly just disappointment and frustration for me. I also find it hard to believe on such a deep program like this, there is such little control over the color of the windows. You basically get system color, white, gray, light gray, or paper. We should be able to have gradient-level control over all aspects of the display colors. This isn't just a matter of personal preference, either. It helps you distinguish between content types.

No, because I believe Faithlife is responsible for their choices which are made using many facts I don't know. There are bugs and unfinished features that are more important to me than dark mode - but the great thing about FL is that you can push for what matters the most to you, I can push for what matters the most to me, and the "blame" for the "wrong" decision will always fall on Faithlife[;)]

At my last job before retirement, I had the opportunity to work with management, at a hospital. It wasn't at all what I expected. They invested a lot of effort interviewing patients, to find out what they liked, what they didn't like, and how we can improve for them. This, in turn, drives patient satisfaction. Patient satisfaction directly affected how much reimbursement money we got from medicaid. I came to realize that quality companies actually want user feedback. By contrast, companies like Microsoft, who assume they know what's best for their users, and ignore consumer feedback, end up being dumped for open-source products that listen.
As I understand it, Dark Mode is doing well in voting, which shows it's a feature many users want. There may be things we don't understand. If that's the case, and it affects what people want, then it should be explained. I find it hard to believe providing the option to choose what color your panes are, constitutes some complex problem that Faithlife wouldn't be able to deal with for years on end.0 -

By contrast, I worked for a University that provided feedback to Microsoft and was listened to. The institution that would not listen was the State Legislature which would ask for numbers that were mathematically impossible to provide.
Look, I get annoyed when forum posts attempt to run Faithlife ... I prefer to leave that to Bob.

Yeah, I remember switching to Thunderbird in the 90s, because Microsoft refused to offer any option but Times New Roman, for years on end. Then I dumped Internet Explorer for Chrome. Then, after everyone switched to Chrome, they tried to come out with the Edge browser. Right there on my computer, every time I tried to use another browser, they started popping up messages telling me Edge was better and safer, etc. Finally, it got to the point where they did a pop-up survey, right on my computer, wanting to know why I persisted in using other browsers. I told them it was because they ignored what people wanted for so long that people got used to other browsers. Now they show up after everyone is already set in their ways, wondering why nobody wants to use Edge. Well, now they listened, and came out with their own Chrome browser. I'll probably never use it though.

I have tried using dark mode on my iPhone and on my iPad with apps that support it and I find myself struggling to like it.
Why do you think this is a necessary and needed feature?

It's easy on the eyes in low-light levels. Trying to use bright programs in the evening, or in bed, hurts your eyes. I use Dark Mode all the time on my phone and in other programs that offer it. It's significantly easier on the eyes for extended reading. Especially reading in darker environments.

However, please understand that there are also those of us for whom dark mode is a strain on the eyes - day or night. Bright mode does not hurt my eyes at night or in bed or in my great grandfather's rocker. We are not distracted by the background. We do not need additional help to focus on the content. Yes, I would like to see dark mode implemented because of the number of people it benefits. But please remember I personally find it very hard to read even in a single screen shot so that I will not be using it at all.

Thankful for Dark Mode on an iPhone OLED Display being usable nearly all the time. Thankful for training that helped me become peripheral vision aware, which can read Dark Mode easier. My grandmother with wet macular degeneration (colorful center of eyesight diminished use) would have appreciated Dark Mode (a device that enabled her to read books & newspapers inverted black & white along with magnification for display on TV).

Having Dark Mode doesn't force you to use Dark Mode. It just gives you the option to use it if you want. You can still use your regular settings.

I don't understand this. Why is it necessary to acknowledge that dark mode isn't the only view, since getting dark mode wouldn't deprive anyone of using the mode they prefer? I could understand if they were lobbying that we should remove any mode but dark mode.

Because to speak in absolutes about things that are not universal is to exclude those for whom it is not true.
However, I responded to your response to my initial post because it implicitly misrepresented what I had said.

Why are you making such a big deal about a request many people seem to want? Lee Gordon's point is valid. If you don't care about Dark why bother to even join the conversation. If dark mode is added to Logos it does not take anything away and you can continue using it with the default color mode. Unless people were requesting that only dark mode be available then I would see your point, but that is not the request being made. Your argument is a waste of time.

The fact that you have made close to 30 thousand posts is very concerning and I had an experience with you in a previous post a few years ago. You always seem to be confrontational even when people ask honest questions. I had asked if it was possible to export Logos books to other readers and you quickly replied in a condescending way. Pointing me to copyright laws as if I was asking if I could do something illegal. Almost seems like you believe you own part of Faithlife.

Lee Gordon's point is valid.
So was MJ's.
Lee Gordon wrote, "It's easy on the eyes in low-light levels."
In truth, it is easy on some people's eyes in low-light levels. It is not easy on other people's eyes in low-light levels. (One of those people is MJ.)
MJ pays careful attention to the words that she and others use, so she both notices and dislikes absolute general statements that are false more than many other people do. It probably doesn't help that Lee Gordon's well-meant and unintentionally false statement was partly about her, insofar as she is a person with eyes--eyes that do not benefit from Dark Mode.
I, for one, like Dark Mode in principle, and I do use it for some programs. I find it takes some getting used to. That said, if Logos/Verbum 8 had Dark Mode, I'd definitely be running Verbum 8 with Dark Mode right now.

Concur Dark Mode is an individual preference choice (available on Smart Phones, Windows, macOS, ...). Dark Mode needs High Contrast for readability: similar colors (lacking contrast) are hard to read in Light OR Dark Mode.
FYI: for awhile, GMAIL app on iOS 13 only showed Light Mode (even thought iOS was configured Dark). With eyes adjusted at night (in a rural area without street lights so can see many stars at night), the GMAIL app was a bit too bright for use (hurt to look at). Conversely, Dark Mode Map app in bright sunlight was unusable (could not easily see discern colored map details).

People who know me know that I am anything but confrontational or condescending. I may be a bit inept socially which is why I try to stick to precise, accurate, and complete answers ... geared not only to the individual who actually asked the question but for others reading it who need the same information. If you want socially adept, read Rosie - she is also knowledgeable.

But do create new suggestions at the new feedback site (or recreate existing ones that you think need a bit more exposure).

Please vote for Dark Mode in the Logos Desktop App using the New Faithlife Feedback Boards:
33 Votes => Add dark/night mode to desktop (In progress)
9 Votes => Prioritize resources by type
9 Votes => Add multiple search scopes for Bible search (Needs your opinion)
8 Votes => Add faceted browsing sidebar to Search (Needs you opinion)
Thankful every user now has an unlimited number of votes (albeit limited to one vote per Feedback idea). Considering Logos & Verbum community size, number of votes could be substantially increased.

After Monday we may not need to vote on it. But in meantime vote away.

Just want to note that the Faithlife Feedback suggestions for Dark Mode for Biblia and for the Web App are NEW, and as such might be more likely to still need votes....

Can't login to the desktop app. It just keeps popping up a dialogue that offers to let me use Facebook, Twitter, etc. Clicked the Login link, and the page just blinks and asks me to set up an account. Already have an account, and was logged in. Tried on Chrome and Firefox.
