Has everyone bid on this yet: https://www.logos.com/product/8511/the-catholic-encyclopedia
We need to get this going!
I'm in at $130. I would think half that price ($60 or $70) would be a very good price for this, and that's probably what it's going to take to get some momentum on this. Would people who are interested in it be willing to up your bids somewhat? Ideally to $60 or $70?
I placed my bid back in 2012 for $70.
I bid $90, when it first came out on CP.
-Dan
I'm in.
Since the Catholic Encyclopedia is currently the third highest CP product when sorted by 'bestselling', in fact nearly "everyone" interested in the Encyclopedia and taking part in CP has bid on this. Logos says, I'm in on the going price since summer 2011 (really that long?).
At the current price of $30 it's at roughly thirty percent, so there are three possible scenarios to get it over 100%:
I'm pessimistic that any of the first two will happen in the near future, and since Bob knows about the situation and didn't take the third solution now when the Verbum 6 packges gave the perfect opportunity, this may linger on for some years to come.
But maybe it's time to think outside the box: The Catholic Encyclopedia is available for free on the internet, and arguably a higher quality resource than Wikipedia. While online-only access is not a satisfactory solution for all users, it is a way that Logos 6 goes for many resources that would be too cumbersome to produce (scans of biblical manuscripts, atlas maps, art, presentation backgrounds, Wikipedia).
The code that allows Wikipedia to be shown, researched, marked up... should be easily adaptable to do the same for the online presence of Catholic Encyclopedia (aside: or the Vatican websites for CCC and other stuff that shortsighted copyright distribution takes away from international customers!) - and I'm convinced that solving this with online access code instead of resource creation will get us the resource much faster than even if it was standing at 100% right now.
So, root for a new feature in Verbum 6.1 (early 2015?) rather than a CP to go over and get shipped years later!
It is already available at books.logos.com.
I made a personal book of it. I found a decent file, but I can't remember where (I'm on lunch at work right now). Certainly, there's no inter-resource tagging, but the headword milestones were fairly easy to implement. When compiled as one volume, it's a big mama at 100MB.
EDIT: Aha, I do remember now: ccel.org.
I'm in at $130 also. Been there for a while as well.
I've placed my bid and continue to wait.
Upped bid to $150. Let's get this going folks!!
Peace
IMO this should have been included in some of the new L6 Verbum base packages, the way they included some of the other long-languishing CP reference works in BPs, namely A Dictionary of Christian Biography, Literature, Sects and Doctrine, the Encyclopaedia of Religion and Ethics, and the Dictionary of Greek and Roman Antiquities

Can you download books from www.ccel.org?
Yes. At least some of them. There is also an excellent post on how to include such books in your Verbum/Logos collections:

Craig: what Steve did was to put a space after the link. That makes it active.

This workaround is required due to a known bug in the forum software. We ought to be able to paste a URL in and click Post and have it turn automatically into a link, but that doesn't work unless you type a space after the URL.
[bump]
It's looking like the CP bidding options should be redone.
What really needs to happen is this Item should be like gill and placed in verbum 7 packages so it can be made. I think this would offer more value to Catholics than gill offers to Baptists. But I suppose that is all relative.

I think this has value for the Lutherans, too. Martin Luther was Catholic for his whole life.

As were, and in the same way, Melancthon, Zwingli, Calvin, John Knox, and Thomas Cranmer.
Now when the Orthodox base packages are out, it came into my mind what is going on with this Catholic encyclopedia?

I would hazard to bet that the production costs for the Catholic encyclopedia will magically drop just before the Logos 7 base packages come out, and Faithlife starts looking for big stocking stuffers.
Logic alert (my specialty) - the costs need not "magically drop" one merely factors in the projected income generated by the Logos 7 base packages.
All roads lead to Rome.
I hope the same is true of the Liturgy of the Hours - a significant liturgical book-set of the Latin Church not yet in Verbum!
After a long wait, the Catholic Encyclopedia is now available in Verbum 9 Silver and above!
It's been a while but great to have in our libraries now.
It will ship soon after launch day.
Do I need to cancel my pre-order or will it automatically recognize I have it now?
You do not need to cancel your preorder, and you will not (ever!) be charged twice for something own.

Verbum 7, Verbum 9... whatever. [;)]
What happens to the Community Pricing bids/bidders? Does an arbitrary "strike price" get set on this as a pseudo pre-order, or does the Catholic Encyclopedia just count as something like a failed community pricing attempt?
In the past the price is normally taken as the projected bid price (i.e. $30) and the bids either succeed or fail accordingly.

At least normally there has been at least a few days' notice, so that people who bid under the winning price can adjust it as desired.
Thanks all for the feedback. It may be a little while before I can make the upgrade leap that I'd like to, so being able to add the (long desired) Catholic Encyclopedia would be a terrific addition to tide me over until then.

Just noting that it's not normally more expensive to make a series of little jumps than to make a big one. In fact, it can be cheaper.
Brian, the Catholic Encyclopedia will be available for individual purchase in the coming months.
I got this email today. It showed up in my junk folder. Strange, that hasn't happened before.

Hi Donald,
I've had a Community Pricing bid on Catholic Encyclopedia since February of 2013, and I'm extremely happy that I'll be able to participate in the coming preorder. 👍🏽

Haven’t seen this email. But since I have Platinum, I guess I technically already own it
I saw that The Catholic Encyclopedia is promoted in the Verbum 9 update under the "Magisterially Scriptural" description of Verbum 9 on the Verbum website. I learned though that the Encyclopedia is still in the "Bid" stage until the end of the week. I "chatted" with several Logos product specialists and they said they did not have a completion target yet for this product. I think I read somewhere too that the Catholic Encyclopedia will be integrated with the Factbook. Seems like this could still take quite some time to complete then. Also seems a little unrealistic to promote this product in Verbum 9 when it will likely still be quite some time before this product is released. Can anyone from Faithlife shed some light on this situation? Thanks.
Faithlife said it would ship shortly after Logos 9 release, and that it was almost done. Logos has done this in the past, where they take languishing prepubs and add them to base packages so that it gets the funding necessary to produce it. When they do this, the people who don't buy a base package but have ordered the perpub end up waiting longer to get there copy.

It's rare for a date to be available to the public that is not shown on the product page.

It is conceivable that it could be released before Factbook integration. But Faithlife is also capable of integrating titles into Factbook rather quickly.
I can't commit to a specific day, but the Catholic Encyclopedia should be available soon. Like Liturgy of the Hours, we are putting the finishing touches on it.
Glad to see this moving forward!
I got an email last week saying that my Pre-Pub bid was successful and that bidding would close on 11/6/2020 at 12:00pm Pacific Time. The item page also gives the same date https://www.logos.com/product/8511/the-catholic-encyclopedia, but bidding still seems to be open. Am I missing something, or should it have been closed by now?

Looks like it fell back below 100%...
It will go to prepub tomorrow.
Looks like everyone who bought a set that includes this will see the pre-order indicate that they preordered today:
Now I wanna know when we get it [;)]

I wonder why it's showing a dynamic price of $30 if we already own it?
