Logos Book to Kindle

Greetings --

I am new to the Logos platform and cannot figure out how to download a book I added to my Logos bookshelf or library to my Kindle reading app.

Is there a way to do that?

If not, I suggest that as a good function to add.

Logos DID have this feature, but due to changes in policy at Amazon, it had to be turned off. Obviously Amazon wants you to buy your books from them, not another vender! As Bernhard suggests, however, there are mobile reading apps from Faithlife which will allow you to read on iOS/Android. If you want to read on an eInk Kindle, you will need to use the conversion method mentioned above.

The biggest advantage of using one of the FL apps is that notes, highlights, reading plans etc. will sync. Using the Kindle app will mean none of that will work together.

I'm able to sync notes and highlights with the Kindle App, but the reading plans you mentioned will most likely not work on that [Kindle] App. I'll keep that feature in mind.

You can sync KINDLE notes and highlights, not LOGOS ones. As a simple reader, I do like the kindle app... although the Kindle eInk readers (I.e. Paperwhite) are vastly superior.

Very correctomento. I have a stable of 3, each specializing in my 'off-Logos' reading. Plus Kindle/ios of course.

My druthers would tend to side with Guy (we're talking reader, not mini-Logos use):

1. Logos did basic training at Ft Lost-in-the Woods. It really tries hard not to let you know where you are, especially if you're reading multiple books (Logos, Kindle, used, etc). Kindle missed the training, and happily even draws little thumbnails for you, chapter headers, and a scrollbar to boot.

2. Logos TOC is quite frankly a mess. As per number #1, there's no hint where you are. And for that extra dose of maddening stress, you must click on each section to see what's in it. Kindle, again, super-courteous.

3. I DO like the single highlight-and-go in Logos. But I USE the combo in Kindle far more (highlight, definitions, etc)

4. Did I mention the 2-finger zoom? Or the ease of selecting font/size in Kindle.

5. Finally 'weight'. I'm not sure why but I find myself reading every which way except 'up'. Sleepy-time, out on the deck (sorry ios, trouble with the sun?), and so forth.

6. And last-ily, I trust Amazon more than Logos. Strange as that may be, I highlight with gusto on Kindle. Selectively on Logos.

The tutorial is no longer helpful, Logos changed the export settings so that it is not possible to send the entire book. I really don't understand this policy. They don't have to talk with Amazon, it would be enough to enable export in mobi format. After all, they are generated automatically (they do in all stores). That would simplify things, because I could download the mobi format and put it on a kindle myself.

So blaming the other company isn't good. Buying books in Logos is pointless, if i know i will have to read on their app. The Kindle is convenient as any reader. I am not a fan of Amazon, but I believe that when you buy something, it should be up to you to choose where to read it. Logos is a phenomenal application for studying the Bible, but not for reading books.

I'm sad to see that you're right about the fruitlessness of buying books in Logos, especially having learned this AFTER I already have bought many hundreds of dollars of books in Logos.

Your assertion that those who purchase the books should be able to read them wherever they want is spot on, and it is something I hope the Logos team will take into account.

Being limited to reading in the Logos application is not just a hassle at times, but it makes it more like we're renting or borrowing the books, rather than actually buying them.

There are certain ways in which this isn't all that far from the truth. You are accessing an agreement, not buying books (as you do with paper versions). Logos makes a point of always saying any resources you buy will be accessible to you "forever", but that is contingent on the developmental changes in the core program...so the "how" of accessing your library can change significantly over time. As someone who still uses the deprecated L3 for the majority of my study, that's a glitch in the matrix that can sneak up on you in unanticipated ways. I sometimes feel like that Indian guy who lives at that isolated subway station--alive and kicking but disconnected from what's going on in the main storyline.

If it is pointless to you then don't buy them here! I see it differently. For me, the primary benefit of Logos is its ability to be a search library, which kindle doesn't do at all.

Have you seen this documented somewhere? I was debating sending a book to kindle just now and ran into an issue... but then decided that I might want to "study" the book, and the Logos mobile app is superior for doing that. I will mess around with send to kindle and see what I get.

I was able to send an entire book just now. If you need help doing so, please create a new thread in the L9 forum and we'd be glad to help.

Conversely, I would suggest visiting the new feed bear site and seeing if there is a suggestion to create a new "send to mobi" feature. If not, it couldn't hurt to create one.

You suggested that the fault is on the Amazon side, and it is not. I've been using Kindle for years, but mostly I upload books via computer anyway. Amazon has no problem with that. "Send to kindle" feature doesn't work as it should in many stores. but they allow you to download files in mobi format.

In my text above, I wanted to say that there was no point in buying books on the software for reading books. Having them in a program to search for specific fragments is valuable, but that's not what we're talking about here. Each of us has hundreds, if not thousands, of books that are difficult to read in Logos application. It would be great to buy books in Logos (study, search filter in program), but be able to download it in a format that you can read on a reader.

To export a file to word you have to paste fragments of book into Word. The whole process is now more complicated or maybe you have actually discovered another possibility, but still it is need to "discover" how to download the book. Not everyone knows the computer so well that they can go through tutorials. Don't you see the pointlessness of such actions? As users, we have to export the file to Word, copy, paste, etc. just to read something we bought. It does not make sense.

One final note. I don't think Faithlife is afraid of the theft of books (export to mobi) because they allow it to Word, which is even less security. But even if this is the case, the mobi file may contain various forms of security so that the company does not lose out on it.

I think many users very, very much appreciate Logos. I also find it wonderful. It has a lot of functionality and having a whole library in it is handy for its extensive search benefits as you mentioned yourself. However, we would like to read a lot of books from cover to cover, and this is just hard on Logos mobile app. Hence, the best solution in my opinion is to propose Faithlife to create such a functionality. Many people on the forum will confirm this. It's easier than going through tutorials on how to create a single book, where each of us has thousands of them in Logos.

Logos has been a good tool for me, but I do find the functionality to be a bit cumbersome at times.

I love the portability of electronic books (I live on a boat so I don't have room for a large library) but I do wish that it was easier to use our Logos purchases on whatever our preferred platform(s).

I wish it were easier to put books onto kindle. Your suggestion of .mobi would be more useful to many non-kindle users. If it isn’t already on feed bear, you should suggest it. If Faithlife has reasons why they won’t or can’t do this, hopefully they will make that clear.

For the Paperwhite, you can also go to Biblia.com in the Experimental Browser and use Article Mode. It was mentioned in 2011 threads, but I only found it after browsing this forum for the past year or so. It's a tad clunky and is limited to just viewing (no notes/highlights) at the default font size, but I think it still gets the job done on my Paperwhite 6. If they're going to do it (which would be super cool), my vote is that they develop Biblia.com's UI to be most user-friendly with the low-spec browsers in e-ink devices (assuming they all have one, of course). From my very limited perspective, that appears to be perhaps the path of least resistance (for users, developers, and any legal concerns).
