Logos Desktop on Surface Pro X?
Is there anyone who participated in Windows Insider program, owns a Surface Pro X, and managed to run Logos Desktop? The x64 emulation whilst still on beta, looks somewhat promising. Just wondering if anyone out there is able to test this out for those deciding between the usual Surface Pro/Pro X. I know the Pro with Intel chip is theoretically far more powerful than the Pro X, but I'm really leaning towards the Pro X for its design and battery life.

The ARM-based processor that runs 32-bit Win10 applications is NOT supported by Logos at this time (as of Jan 2020) with no plans to do so.
Perhaps with the demand for Apple silicon (that moves away from Intel chips), Logos will write for some of the newer hardware in both the MAC and PC worlds.

Yes I am aware that Logos does not officially support ARM devices. But I thought it might be worth asking about how the recent release of 64-bit emulation is holding up now. As I've seen on Youtube some people have been able to run 64-bit softwares via emulation on the Pro X.

Joshua, having used Surface Pro devices in the past, I would be interested in the answer to your question. Judging by the threads on the Apple M1 chips here, as soon as the Faithlife team accesses the version of the OS and their own Surface Pro X, we might learn more. Phil Gons got a Mac Mini with an M1 chip in it and provided some responses earlier in the fall.

Logos Desktop needs good specs. The Pro X chip is nowhere near the Apple M1 in performance. To run Logos Desktop on a beta emulator on a device that reviewers call slow (except when running Edge) is not what I'd call promising. You'd probably get the performance of the original Surface Go, at best. An Intel Surface Pro would do better. I'd guess that the Surface Go 2 would do better.

The fact is that Logos 8 worked on my Surface Pro X initially albeit it was clunky. So I heard about the emulation software on windows insider and Logos 9 so I installed them both and now Logos won't even open. I installed another update today and a window comes up when I click on Logos for the first time with a screen that says contact the publisher. So. Logos is out, done obsolete at this point. I am thankful for the fact I already had Wordsearch and it still works great and doesn't spend anywhere near the time updating my library as Logos does. The sad thing is that Logos now owns Wordsearch and so they might take Wordsearch down the same road as Logos making Wordsearch as useless as Logos. I am praying they leave Wordsearch alone. If you can still find a download for Wordsearch it works great of the Surface Pro X. By the way the Surface Pro X battery life, and screen along with how thin it is makes it a great machine in my opinion. I use it to teach from. Just my two cents. Blessings Dennis Davenport.

Thanks for the info Dennis! Real insightful! Would it be possible to show some video footage of it running logos 8? I would be very interested to see how the Pro X is holding up. Do you think the clunkiness is due to software optimization or hardware limitation? As I can tell from the available benchmarks, the Pro X at least seems to be more capable than the Surface Go 2 m3 in multicore benchmark, while slightly falling behind in single core. And the Go 2 is said to be quite a significant upgrade from Go, which I've used before, and it wasn't particularly bad as far as I can remember. So, I'm gonna assume performance should rank like this: Go<Go 2<Pro X.

Concur Logos & Verbum are a resource intensive applications that benefit from gaming hardware (fast processor, fast SSD, & fast graphics).

Apparently there's been an update that 'broke' the emulation function. Perhaps some troubleshooting could be done to fix it. Any update would be greatly appreciated! For now I'm going to assume if it runs Logos 8, there should be no reason why it shouldn't run Logos 9, since all it takes is x64 emulation.

Good news! As of now, Logos 9 runs on my Surface Pro X which is at Windows Insider 21318 build. It's still indexing, so while not super snappy, it is perfectly functional.

Interesting, I am running Logos 9 on my Surface Pro X running the latest Insider build and it just crashes at the splash screen. Am I missing any compatibility settings/drivers?

That's strange. For me, it just takes a bit longer (ard 10secs) to load than say, a regular i5-10thgen. Try to check and see if you're in the dev channel or beta. AFAIK, it's the dev channel that has the emulation atm.
Btw, interestingly, the release date for the build that got my Logos 9 running in the first place, was actually quite close to me reporting the issue via Microsoft's feedback hub, like just a couple days after. Could be coincidental, or that they're really keen on improving their emulation capacity. But ultimately, we know it's providential. [:P]I plunged into buying the Pro X without knowing if it'd ever run Logos because of the design and mobility. But thankfully things are looking better now.

Thanks, guys! Strangely, when I initially set up 64-bit emulation, I was on the dev channel and it wasn't working so I went into the insider settings and switched back to Beta. I switched back to dev again just now, it downloaded the latest dev build, and now works as it's supposed to.

I just got quoted a good cost for Surface pro x but its arm based? i do not want Logos to crawl? Any better on surface pro 7?

At this point consider it a beta experience that is a work in progress. Probably not for the faint of heart. Give it a few more years and revisions to bake and we'll see. Logos Desktop is excellent on a Pro 7, though the touch experience could use improvement.

My Pro X is currently on the Windows 11 beta, and I can tell the experience as a whole is getting smoother. I'm rather optimistic since I've been using it the day the emulation first worked, While it won't be as powerful as the Pro 7, if you don't mind 4-5sec delay while running multiple tabs, and would love the versatility, I'd say you probably won't regret it. As for touch optimization, that's up to Logos to decide when to get it sorted, both Pro 7 and Pro X face the same problem here. However, if you don't use a whole lot of x64 exclusive app, and can live with the gradually improving emulation, you should be happy with the Pro X. Not to mention, I don't miss Chrome at all ever since I moved to Edge due to the limited power of the Pro X. It's so power efficient with the SQ1 chip that I think the charging frequency is doubly less than my previous Pro 7.

Bill I briefly considered an Ipad Pro MI but have abandoned the idea. I was told by a reliable source I need

to future proof my upgrade or next purchase and to date I can find no portable device (except a laptop with a screen that will NOT detach) that has it.
Apple wants people to have a Macbook and some other device not roam about with a powerful tablet that replaces a computer outright.
I am returning to possibly just upgrading my Surface Pro but NOT to the X.

iPads of whatever type, and including the iPad Pro mentioned above, run on iPadOS not MacOS. From the first iPad any updates to iPadOS (or its forerunners) have been issued as free upgrades.
Apple desktops run various flavours of MacOS (the current one being named "Big Sur") it is soon to be replaced by the next edition. For at least the last couple of decades all upgrades to MacOS have been issued as free upgrades.
Nobody should bulk at purchasing a new (or even recent) Apple product for fear of the OS becoming outdated or the cost of moving to the latest version that their unit will run.
Methinks that either the reliable source was not so reliable or that their advice has been quoted out of context.

Or, that Josh decided he needed the full desktop app for his needs and not the iPad OS app that isn't full featured.
Over the years, Josh has indicated he likes mobile devices and detachable tablets in particular. That he can't have with MacOS running Big Sur, the upcoming OS version or any other unless Apple decides to allow it to run on tablets.

Reading rumors of MacBook Pro 14" & 16" being released this fall (by November). Since Apple Silicon allows iPadOS apps to run on macOS Big Sur (and upcoming macOS Monterey), am dreaming of touch screen for interaction with iPadOS apps (caveat is no mention of touch screen in mini LED screens). Like idea of running iOS apps by Faithlife along with desktop applications on one Mac.
