The ABC's of the Notes Tool
While browsing the Forum I discovered that a lot of users struggle to grasp the Notes Tool. Searching Youtube for a solution doesn't provide any useful insights either.
When you think linear the Tool doesn't make sense. When you think visually it doesn't make sense either. So I created this short three-step Tutorial to explain the complete ABC's of the Notebook.
Consider the following Linear Outline
(The big question: How do you duplicate this in the Notes Tool?)
- Notebook 1 Peter
- Outline
- Outline 1
- Outline 2
- Outline 3
- Word Study 1
- Word Study 2
- Word Study 3
- Summary 1
- Summary 2
- Summary 3

A Notebook has Notes that can be tagged ... the tags are the Headings in your Outline ...
B
A Note's Tags becomes Indexes in the Tags Facet of the Filters ... Therefore just see the word "Tags" of the Filters as the "Index" of your Notebook ...
C
Therefore you can filter the Notebook with these "Index" entries ... useful for Personal Book Building ...
D
Just to have fun we can add another step "D" to violate the Title ("ABC's") of this post. Just add your outline as a separate note and add all outline items as "Indexes" (tags).
Now your Outline Structure will always display when you filter by "Index" in the Filters.

Maybe this is the ABCDE'z of the Notes Tool ...? We should always consider expanding our knowledge beyond the ABC's of life ...

This is a fantastic post PJ; it has me thinking about a lot of different structures and systems I can create in Logos -- that I hadn't previously thought of.
One example is to create a tag using a non-dictionary word (e.g. "INDEXER"); then when filtering, searching, etc -- easily find every "master indexer" file -- to see one single Table of Contents note for each and every notebook.

If FaithLife decides to Hyperlink the Tags at the bottom of each Note, users will start to recognize them as if they were Tabs. This will solve the learning curve of the Notes Tool?

Would you mind explaining your custom tools menu? As this post is about Notes and Indexing I suppose it's still in the boundaries. I see the custom tools as another index to potentially expand the use of the Notes Tool.

Do you by chance use any outside software for anything else with respect to Logos (e.g. Excel, Access, AirTable, XYplorer, etc)? I built a massive Excel file with all my books, which allows me to sort and filter in complex manners, with the push of a Command Button:

My Sermon Builder and Print/Export function in Logos is linked with a Macro to speed up my PBB building and VoiceOvers for those documents. When a Sermon is finished I press F2 for a Sermon Template or F4 for a Devotional Template and F3 to access the folder structure. The macro starts a hidden Word Template and then continue with the normal Print/Export in Logos. I then export to Word from Logos and press F3 to save that template as a pdf with the guid of the Active Sermon in Logos. It also exports automatically to an html document. When done it automatically create and open a FLStudio Template for recording and it's then linked to my html version. Then I record the voiceover and within minutes everything is done.
I do use other automated apps for mind mapping and quick solutions to solve a problem if needed, but the above is my primary daily dose of apps.

1) Join the iDENTITY iNTELLIGENCE Group: https://faithlife.com/identity-intelligence
2) Logos > Docs > Groups > iDENTITY iNTELLIGENCE > SY Abide | Rest | Sabbath
I'm not sure exactly how this works, but if you have difficulty accessing the Notebook... according to a post on the forum (https://community.logos.com/forums/p/151779/927796.aspx), you may have to "Follow" the Group, and then I can promote you. So just post here if there are any problems!
When you add the Notebook to your Logos, it will be locked (Read only), so you'll have to select the Notebook > Right-Click > Duplicate ... if you want to Read / Write.
Also, I've created a nice PDF of this little research project; once you're in the Group, I think I an PM you an attachment (or PM you to get your email and just email it to you).
