John Cassian: The Institutes (Ancient Christian Writers)
Would like to know why John Cassian's "The Institutes" is not on Logos even though it is part of the Ancient Christian Writers series (which is on Logos in its entirety) and even though it has been released in 2000 which is before other volumes in the series which are already on Logos.

I believe it is there https://verbum.com/product/40940/ancient-christian-writers-bundle or am I missing something? This appears to be the individual item https://verbum.com/product/157135/john-cassian-the-conferences

No, I don't think so. It seems to be a separate book: https://www.amazon.com/Boniface-Ramsey/dp/0809105225 which I don't see in the ACW bundle or anywhere in the Verbum/Logos shop
Have joy in the Lord!

The Institutes and The Conferences are indeed separate books. I got The Conferences in print c. 2005 since I was excited that it was finally available complete in English for the first time, and picked it up in the Spring Verbum sale for 10 bucks. But The Institutes is a different (and shorter) work, for which Boniface Ramsey came out with an edition for ACW at about the same time as his edition of the Conferences.

Not really, especially since the English I found there was the old version many of us have from NPNF as a destination for https://ref.ly/logosref/Cassian.De_Instit._Ceonob.

The NPNF version is also not complete. It is missing one full chapter. The ACW version is the only complete version in modern English available.
Not sure what is the reason why it is not on Logos since the rest of the series is there?

We'll be getting more volumes from ACW that we don't currently have.

Thank you. Can you give me an idea of when that will be (just looking for a ballpark time frame)?

I don't have a specific timeline, but you should see them appear on prepub in the coming months.

A big +1 on Institutes! It is indeed a separate book. It is very important for its witness to early monasticism and its treating of the eight principal vices or deadly thoughts - which evolved in the West into the Seven Deadly Sins.

Hello,
We are approching about a year now. Are there any updates on this? I don't see any new volumes from Ancient Christian Writers series on Pre-pub.

Asking about this too.
Also noticed "Ancient Christian Writers: Volume 16 - Proof of the Apostolic Preaching" by Irenaeus isn't in the series either.

I had also noticed this, but in general it appears like the newer Popular Patristics work is the recommended one, which is indeed available. Of course, it is odd that the ACW volume isn't available though.

- Volume 73: Sententiae (Isidore of Seville)
- Volume 74: Teachings of the Desert Fathers
- Volume 75: Sermons and Tractates on Matthew (Chromatius of Aquileia)

We have ongoing conversations with Paulist. Paulist wants ACW on Verbum, and Verbum wants to have the whole ACW, there are some external challenges we are working through with Paulist. Our mutual end goal is to provide as complete an ACW as possible.
