So... I am in the middle of a study .... have several resources open.... and then I want to find out something about the book of Micah......

So I go to the "Go Box" type in "study of book of Micah" ....

Now at this point I don't want to mess up my layout that I am working with and which I built for this study....and have several resources open....

But ... If I click on the "Search >> Search for Study of book of Micah"...  it will load and wipe away all my current layout ....

Why wouldn't it be a good idea... to be able to open the "Search >> Search for Study of book of Micah" in a floating window....which I could move over on my other monitor and keep on with my studies?

Right now Logos doesn't allow this.....    it is about the little things.... Geeked

Edit: I know I can find the info I need other ways...which I did... but it would be easier to do it through the "Go Box" I'm a thinking.

It should only open a Search panel in your layout. Please explain "wipe away"

What are you actually trying to do? If I understand the question correctly I can answer it.

    • Open a book titled "study of the book of Micah"? this can be done in a floating window
    • Open another layout called "study of the book of Micah"? You can't as only one layout may be open at a time -- but a layout can have floating windows and multiple monitors
    • Look for specific information about the book of Micah which may most easily be obtained by (a) the Factbook entry for the book of Micah OR (b) the Bible Book Explorer Tool? Either of which may be done in a floating window
    • Open a search for resources with the book of Micah as their subject? this can be done in a floating window
    • Something else -- I misunderstood your question

But ... If I click on the "Search >> Search for Study of book of Micah"...  it will load and wipe away all my current layout ....

I have never seen this behavior - for me the search opens a panel in a pane which I can easily float or use and close.

but it would be easier to do it through the "Go Box" I'm a thinking.

I don't know until I understand what you are actually trying to do and why you say search wipes out your layout. It may well be possible to do it through the Go box.

I may have stated it wrong... but here is how I duplicated it on my system today ...

    I opened a layout that I have....

Then I typed in "Study book of Micah" into the "Go box"...

Then I selected "open topic study layout to book of Micah"

and the original layout I had opened disappeared and the "open topic study layout to book of Micah" filled the screen.

After going over all this I think I understand now   That I chose a "layout" from the go box .... and since it is a layout.... it is working as it was intended...

I just didn't expect to lose the layout I had built.... so my bad.

    Thanks again for everyone's help.

    Hi xnman:

I understand what you need. Even though it says 'Layout', wouldn't it be nice if the maneuvers that work in other contexts, e.g., Hold Shift and click, or right-click and choose 'Open in floating window', worked in this case to open your Micah study in a floating window?

Wouldn't that be great! I think that idea goes back to ancient Logosian times ... Steve was trying alternatives.

    I opened a layout that I have....

Then I typed in "Study book of Micah" into the "Go box"...

My Go Box listed an entry for "Open Factbook to Book of Micah" in first place of the list. Using Shift+Click then opened Factbook Micah article in new window !

Then I selected "open topic study layout to book of Micah" and the original layout I had opened disappeared and the "open topic study layout to book of Micah" filled the screen.
After going over all this I think I understand now   That I chose a "layout" from the go box .... and since it is a layout.... it is working as it was intended...

Exactly ... there is a "Topic Study" layout in the "Quickstart Layouts" group, and that layout way loaded with the resources opened to Micah when you selected the entry " open topic study layout to book of Micah" in the Go Box suggestions list.

Then I selected "open topic study layout to book of Micah"

So that is the problem, as you have now recognized. Any time you choose an option that is some version of "Open ... layout", you will open a new layout, which means that the layout you had open will close. To avoid this behaviour, do not choose any GO Box options that include the word "layout".

Well it isn't really lost - if one knows where it is!

Once you have finished with Micah you can just go back to your original work by click on the previously saved snapshot.

Thanks to all for your suggestions and help!!!

I think I would like it to be able to open "study book of Micah" in a new window... then just drag it over to another monitor screen and have both layouts open at the same time...

    Thanks again...
