Attn: Kyle, $100 German commentary in Spanish packages?

Hello Kyle,

I was looking at the Spanish language base packages, and I saw what looks like, to me, to be a mistake. I hope I am not wrong, but that’s why I am asking— why would a $100 dollar German commentary be added to the higher level Spanish packages?

Keil and Delitzsch‘s commentary on the Old Testament, in German, is included in the Spanish language packages Platino and Diamante, as well as bilingual gold (Spanish/English), bilingual platinum (Spanish/English), bilingual diamond (Spanish/English), bilingual total (Spanish/English) base packages.

I saw a Spanish language user also asking about this in their forum, but the answers have not been as fast as those in the English forum.

Could you please provide a rationale for why this seemingly errant resource would be included? Would you remove or replace it with something more useful/appropriate? Thank you!

Compare the price of Herders Theologischer Kommentar zum Alten Testament (HThKAT) which is included in a Verbum English base package. P.S. Kyle works in production rather than marketing.

My wild guess is that since Logos now can translate almost any language (this includes German), now Spanish users can purchase commentaries not available in Spanish but available in English or German, or other languages and benefit from the translation tool 👍😁👌 English to Spanish so far translates very well. The german to Spanish translates well, since what I read in Spanish or English makes sense. So maybe that’s why. I really enjoy it!

Thanks MJ, but in this case, the other situation you mentioned is like apples and oranges.

There’s already a Spanish version of Kiel and Delisztch in the logos store, that is $53 dollars. (I have it.)

Also, Kyle is a superstar and is so attentive. He, in the past has helped me with other issues by directing coworkers to help answer the question If it’s their specialty. I am not sure sales would be the right dept to ask about how choices were made for base package contents.

Not really. I was told by a sales rep that that was intentional so we could use the translation tool. So we shouldn’t get skeptical when a cheap german set got thrown in there. Apparently, there was a valid reason behind it.

Thanks but for me it makes no sense. That said they trust the AI of DeepL more than the translation made by man. Für mich ist ja Deutsch kein Problem. But it sound weird to put this in the Spanish collection if there is a Spanish translation.

It may be worth noting that the Spanish edition for about $54 is limited to the Historical Books. There are also two pre publication projects on most of the prophetic books and at least Job, which would add over $160 more; one of those collections is only in the gathering interest stage. So at this moment it would not have been possible to include the full Keil and Delitzsch commentary in Spanish as part of a base package.

Hah! Told you so! 👉 That’s exactly what I was told! Personally, I don’t see what the big deal is. People shouldn’t be complaining about this; it’s only one old cheap German commentary. I bet if it was Ceslas Spic French commentary on Hebrews no one would be complaining about it 😂😂😂 I’m going to go check to see if they have it on sale, now that I can read French in my own language 😁

It's 'only' been 10 years. That was back when they proposed translations (and didn't). I wonder if Spicq/Hebrews would get vary far today. A different world.
