Lexham Research Commentary Update?

Has anyone heard an update on some of the new volumes for the Lexham Research Commentary set? The last I heard was they were planning to have Daniel and Ruth out before the end of 2020, but it looks like that has been delayed.

Jon, let's blame 2020. [:D] But seriously, my project plans did not pan out like planned last year. I'm not sure anyone's 2020 went as planned though. I have begun editorial on Daniel and Ruth and will have them ready as soon as possible. They aren't my only projects to finish this spring (Geographic Commentary is also on my plate), so I don't want to commit to a date and disappoint but I'm hoping they'll be ready by the end of the first half of 2021.
As far as the series goes, Luke should be ready for editorial later this spring, and 2 Peter is due this summer. After 2 Peter, the author is doing Jude. Matthew is being written, and I'm looking for authors to continue the series.

Let's hear it for job security.[8-|] Thanks Doug. It is so easy for us to take all of FL for granted. I sure don't anymore. Every time I use Logos, I am reminded of all the faithful labor that enables all these resources to be at my fingertips.

Latest update on this series—I have authors lined up for the rest of the New Testament volumes. Luke and 2 Peter have been submitted and are in my editorial queue. Both look like substantial contributions to the series that I think everyone will be happy with. Daniel and Ruth are ahead of them in the queue though. Plans are to turn to this series once I get some things wrapped up related to the Geographic Commentary and the Context Commentary projects.

Any chance we’ll see any of these (Daniel, Ruth, etc) before the end of the year?

I'd like to say yes, there's a chance, but it's unlikely either Daniel or Ruth will ship to customers by the end of the year. It's possible Ruth will be close as I hope to give it my full attention later this month. But after my first edit, its progress will depend on others in editorial and digital resource production having time to do their part. I don't think there's enough time for everything to happen by end of the year, though, even if I finished my work today. (There's copy editing, resource tagging, pre-pub notification period, etc., to account for.) I should soon be able to give this series more attention for a while to get caught up on the ones that have been submitted but not edited yet. So you can expect some of these to be released in the first half of next year.

FYI, eight new volumes in the Lexham Research Commentaries have been posted for pre-order. These volumes have all been contracted and are currently in the writing process. We won't have an estimated release date until a manuscript is turned in. A portion of a ninth volume — Revelation — has also been contracted but we'll hold off on posting that one for pre-order until the author commits to the entire book.
With Revelation pending, these new volumes will offer complete coverage of the New Testament. Finding authors to complete the Old Testament is our next priority.

are pre-order prices better than just waiting for the actual release?
Bob
Yes. For some reason the last two posted above with logos.com links, 2 Peter and Jude, don't show the discount, but the volumes in the post above with lexhampress.com links do. The discount for Pre-publication/pre-orders is around 30%, give or take 3%.

So the first half of the year has come and gone but still no Ruth or Daniel yet
. Any update on the status of these, Doug? I'm starting to worry that they will once again get pushed back into the following year.

LRC Daniel has had a first edit. LRC Ruth's first edit is roughly halfway done. I did not get time to devote full attention to this series late last year and early this year as I expected. I still hope to get Ruth and Daniel done this year though, but at a certain point, I'll be waiting in line for other groups to have time to do their part to get them released.

I really could’ve used the volume on Ruth right now. I’m good though; Daniel Block’s lectures and his commentary on ZECOT really have become my main source for putting lessons together whenever the time comes for me to teach Ruth in a couple of months. Also, the Story of God Bible commentary has some good insights from a woman’s perspective, since the author is a female.

Hi Jake
Since your post, a year ago, I have got no status information. Any news on the preorders you posted?
Thanks for your information.
I bought the whole ECC. Am I going to get the volumes offered on presales as they are released?
Regards
Sandro

A first edit and content review has been done for LRC Daniel, Ruth, Jude, and 2 Peter, but all are waiting on my review. Unfortunately, my 2022 priorities were changed due to L10 work that is taking much longer than planned (the Lexham Dictionary of Church History [LDCH]) and transitions in the Lexham team. I hope to get to LRC Daniel and Ruth in the first part of the year, but I need to finish LDCH first. I am no longer going to try to give general predictions of when any content will get released as things never go according to plan; however, when these reach the point where we assign an actual release date, I'll try to remember to update here with that. But this series is among my top priorities for 2023, mainly LDCH, then LRC and Context Commentary. I know these are things everyone is waiting for. We're doing our best, and I hope the pace picks up this coming year because I'm expecting more LRC volumes to be submitted.

Jon, looking back at this thread, I see that I've been pleading "just a little longer" for the last 2 years or so, and I'm sorry to do that to you again. I really did expect to get these done a long time ago. One reason for delay on Daniel and Ruth was that we added engagement with more commentaries that came out since the initial submission. That work was done earlier this year, but then I was assigned to manage the LDCH reference project, aiming to release in L10. So LRC took a back seat. LDCH was not supposed to take this long, but for a variety of reasons, we've had delays (large reference and commentary projects often do). I'd also expected to release more content for LCCOT, but it has also not gone according to plan. I have 3 commentary projects and a dictionary going right now in addition to editing a handful of Lexham books. All are making progress, but the dictionary and the print books have been prioritized, slowing progress on the others. I try to be transparent about these things; I feel like I'm just making up excuses, but there's a lot to do to get these resources ready for publication, even if it's only a digital version in Logos.

Thanks Doug, I appreciate your response and your transparency, even if it wasn’t what I was hoping for. Sounds like you have a lot going on and I’m grateful for the work that you do.

I recall ponying up in advance for Lexham resources and I really didn't mind doing so. Maybe we should all just put Doug and the Lexham team on our prayer list that God would enable them to manage their workloads in the best possible way. It's a big burden but it's all done one piece at a time. And God needs to sustain them each and every day. 2023 is just days away and I think I am going to start early in my prayer for these folks.

Yes, there's a chance that I'll get LRC Ruth and Daniel out this year. I'm hesitant to get your hopes up though. Let's say it's a 60-40 chance. It's probably more like 70-30. I've also enlisted help with some NT volumes, so I expect to get at least two or three of those out by December. These are a fair amount of work, and when I get optimistic about something going smoothly, that seems to be when things stop going smoothly. But I can tell you that they are a high priority for me for the second half of the year.
