Another tip of the day (TOTD) series for Logos/Verbum 10. They will be short and often drawn from forum posts. Feel free to ask questions and/or suggest forum posts you'd like to see included. Adding comments about the behavior on mobile and web apps would be appreciated by your fellow forumites. A search for "L/V 10+ Tip of the Day site:community.logos.com" on Google should bring the tips up as should this Reading List within the application.

This tip is inspired by the forum post: NOTES or Notebooks? That is the question. - Logos Forums

Do you need to put your notes into notebooks? it depends.

Do you need to tags to your notes? it depends.

The best way to organize your notes is completely dependent on how you use your notes. If your notes are the equivalent of notes you would write in the margins of your Bible, no notebooks and no tags can be satisfactory. For others, organization by theme, project, sermon, book ... may be helpful. But when do you NEED notebooks? Notebooks add at least two functions:

  • ability to show/not show the notebook (collection of notes) in a resource -- controlled under visual filters
  • ability to share the notebook (collection of notes) with other users -- controlled under documents

Note that Logos automatically generates notebooks from homilies (sermons), workflows (but not guides), and courses.

To control the notes shown in a resource:

  1. select Visual filters
  2. select Notes and highlights
  3. select Notebook(s) you want displayed. Note the option for all notes not in a notebook

To share a notebook:

  1. Select Documents menu
  2. Select Your documents; the other options allow you to obtain copies of notebooks shared by other users
  3. Select Notebook via document type facet
  4. Select Notebook you wish to share
  5. Click to open menu; select share (see below)

Selecting Share brings up another window:

  1. Chose to share with everyone (public) or with a specific Faithlife group
  2. Set the sharing parameter (note I have left it unshared as this is only an illustration)
  3. Click Done
