Westminster Leningrad Codex

I don't have a base package with texts of original languages. However, I recently downloaded the new free SBL Greek New Testament, and have enjoyed using it. Eventually I will probably upgrade to another package with all of the texts.

However, I know that the Westminster Leningrad Codex is in public domain (basically the same text in BHS). Does anyone know if this is available for Logos anywhere?

The closest you can come is the Massorah Gedolah (which comes frm the Leningrad). Otherwise, I've not heard of one. I keep my good ole eSword handy.

I think I misspoke. I meant to say that I am looking for just the basic Leningrad Codex in the Logos format. The codex is freely distributed electronically in other forms on the web. Since Logos has a free edition of the Greek New Testament, I did not know if this was available as well for Logos. The Leningrad Codex is virtually identical to what is found in BHS, but it is free, which is the key reason I'm asking this.

The Leningrad Codex is a manuscript. Namely, it is the oldest complete manuscript of the OT in Hebrew. A facsimile of the manuscript can be downloaded here:

For years the Biblia Hebraica series followed the Textus Receptus (The Bomberg Edition) until the great scholar Paul Kahle suggested that the third edition use the Leningrad Codex as its base text.

During the 1980's Whitaker and van Parunak of Ann Arbor University started a project of transcribing the 1983 edition of BHS. Tov and Kraft continued this project and it was completed by Groves and Wheeler. This is the Westminster Leningrad Project that contains a tagged electronic edition of the Leningrad Codex. The BHS text was checked against photocopies of the original manuscript and many corrections have been made to it. Some of these corrections were also incorporated in later printings of BHS. This is the text sold by Logos and it is worth every penny. It is not included in the library bundles.

I don't have a reply to this old thread, but want to re-ask the question. (It seems to me, based on the replies given at the time, no one understood Wes' question.)

Recently many additional Greek New Testaments have been added to the line-up of offerings for people using the free online version of Logos (e.g. Scrivener, Stephanus, Robinson-Pierpont) and many new English versions (NASB95, NLT, etc.).

So I second Wes' original question: why after all this time -- and all these recent additions of Bible texts/versions -- is there still no Hebrew text available at the free level, when the WLC is available for free at just about every other online Bible site (STEP Bible, BibleWebApp, BibleBento, Parallel Plus, etc.)?

These are peer-to-peer forums and as fellow users we are not privy to the contracts Faithlife has with the copyright holders nor to the business decisions of Faithlife. I suspect that the market for the free product has few users literate in Hebrew,

1. Unfortunately, I don't qualify for the free academic basic, since I was only a seminary student back in the 80s. And I was mainly looking for something online, not downloaded anyway, so I was more curious why the online Logos had all these recent additions without even the free Hebrew text that just about all other online Bible sites have. But thank you for the information.
