Saved Layouts Improvements

We have refreshed the Saved Layouts functionality, making it easier for you to view, create and manage your layouts. This improvement is available on both Android and iOS.

What is it?

You can now view the title of your layout that is currently open. When you tap on the layout title in your Layouts View, you will be taken to the new Saved Layouts menu which allows you to more quickly interact with your saved layouts.

Additionally, we’ve added the highly-requested Close layout or Close all tabs button (depending on what is currently open in your Layouts View).

How to access it?

  1. Open the Logos mobile app.

  2. Tap on the tabs icon in the middle of the bottom toolbar.

  3. Here in the Layouts View, you will notice a few new things:

  • At the bottom of the screen, the title of your layout that is currently open,

  • Also at the bottom of the screen, the Top Bible button and the New Tab button have been rearranged to accommodate the new layout title.

  • In the top left corner, the Close button.

  • Then, tap the layout title to be taken to the refreshed Saved Layouts menu where you will notice several new and improved functionality.

  • *We’d love to hear your thoughts on this improvement. Please provide your feedback in the comments below.

How do you update a layout with this new feature? In the previous implementation I would select the Layouts icon and then the Layouts label that appeared in the lower left on my Fire HD, and from there I could select either the plus sign to create a new layout or, using the 3 dots at the end of an existing layout, be given the options to rename, update, or delete. With this new feature when I select the 3 dots associated with an existing layout I am given the choice of rename, duplicate, or delete. I've been using the update option to reposition where I am in individual documents within a layout. Example: I'm doing a study in Exodus and I have several Bibles and commentaries with a couple of link sets plus notes on various tabs. I've been using the update to save the position I'm at in the resources so that the next time I want to open this layout I'll be at the point where I left off. I may switch to another layout in between for some devotional reading or something else, so I'm closing and reopening layouts fairly frequently.

Okay, that's my story so now the question. Is it possible to update am existing layout with this new feature? I've poked around a little and I haven't found it. Admittedly I've been a little ginger in doing so because I don't want to lose what I have in my current layouts.

Can the layouts be sorted by first letter of named layout

Can the layouts be sorted by first letter of named layout

They are under the saved layouts, but the recent layouts has the last several layouts that you opened in the order they were opened.

Update: It's easier and more obvious than I first thought. Once you make a change, and I've tried several different types of changes and so it appears any change, then it you select the Layout icon to bring up the name of the layout and select that then you are offered a link to Save Changes.

When I first asked the question I didn't have a lot of time to play around and was simply looking for the update link but had not made changes and so it didn't show.

Is it possible to make that bottom bar ALWAYS visible on an iPad? It's tricky hitting a title just right to make it appear.

Can we get the feature back where layouts sync between iOS and iPadOS? This was removed a while ago and has made my using Logos on mobile very frustrating.

As far as I know, layouts have never synced between iOS & iPadOS. In any case, "layouts" means quite different things on iOS, iPadOS, and Desktop.

My guess is that you really want "projects" (syncing of resources). Is that right?

Not so. They used to sync. I brought this issue up in a previous thread, in which you were involved.

I admit I may be wrong... My memory is fuzzy. I don't ever remember them syncing and Ali didn't confirm that they had in the past.

In any case, I think "projects" is the real solution. Here is a quick primer:

Layout: This term should be reserved for patterns of tiles, irrespective of content.

Project: The saving (and syncing) of resource information (which resources are open, resource location, guides, etc.) Projects would be layout agnostic.

Right now FL has at least three distinct meanings for "layouts," which the syncing across platforms makes no sense to me (which I guess is why they don't).

I run windows on a pc and android on my phone. As far as I know, "layouts" have never synced between the two. I don't understand how they could. I have "layouts" on my windows pc that involve 2 monitors. I don't see how the android version could run 2 monitors????

This has never happened, and is not what is being discussed. The issue is between an iPhone (iOS) and iPad (iPadOS) version of the mobile apps.

I ran into what seems to be a significant bug with this feature (and I’m thankful for the feature).

The first time I tapped the tabs icon, my active layout didn’t appear in the list of layouts. All the other ones were there.

Thankfully, I slowed down enough to realize that it wasn’t there and was able to create a new one. But I was a tap away from unintentionally overwriting one of my other layouts.

      FYI.

Can you send a screenshot please? The title of the active layout should show in the Currently Open section at the top of the Layouts menu.

Today I updated my Mobile App in Android Mobile app: Swipe up, click on Tabs -- It doesn't show name of layout nor the "Close" option.  Did this change?

Seems my "layout names" disappeared or possibly that I fumbled fingered it again.... [8-|]

Forget about it! It really was my fumbling fingers... found it!  Thanks
