Barrick and EEC?

What happened? Dr Barrick was the promised author of the Genesis commentary and the Old Testament editor. Today I noticed when I opened the Job commentary that Barrick was ended as editor in 2022. And then I went to https://lexhampress.com/Evangelical-Exegetical-Commentary and I see that he is no longer doing the Genesis commentary. Now David Lamb is

This Genesis commentary by Barrick was the commentary and contribution to the series I have most been looking forward to since I originally pre-purchased the set.

Does anybody have any idea what happened to Bill Barrick and his involvement in EEC and his Genesis commentary in particular?

I realize from reading the rest of the Lexham Press forum that this has sorta been addressed, but nothing about Dr. Barrick that I can see.

Sadly, it looks like the theological emphasis and convictions that made me excited to see Barrick as the OT Editor and author of Genesis commentary have changed dramatically. I don't think you can get much further than Tremper Longman from Barrick's convictions (see https://www.logos.com/grow/tremper-longman-responds-to-justin-taylor-on-the-historicity-of-adam/).

Not that my vote matters much...But it seems to me that if changes are made halfway through a major project like this, the theological distinctives that attracted the original purchases should be held to. It appears that that a different commentary set is now under way.

They did the same with Revelation...

My guess is the people they hired weren't getting the job done so they switched. Unfortunately theological positions of the original authors were not considered and they moved to different ones

What I wrote in another post in this Lexham section:

But I must say my excitement for the series is lessoned now. Several of the authors have changed greatly, as well as a theological stances that were originally present when the series was created. I was looking forward to Averback on Leviticus and Stallard on revelation. I am tiring of Goldingay, commentaries And revelation switched from dispensational to eclectic.

Yeah I was also very disappointed to learn that Dr. Barrick would not be contributing to the Genesis volume anymore. I was planning on purchasing that the day it released.

Until two years ago I was the most vocal about the EEC and I quit being vocal because it falls on deaf ears. But that being said I believe those who have a problem with the change of authors is unfounded. The volumes we currently own are fantastic and a commentary standard has been formed. There's a certain standard to this series as Walt Kaiser found out. You all conjecture things about this series because we get no information or I should say minimal information on this series. Even with the author changes I believe this series will be the highest standards possible.

I totally agree: "if changes are made halfway through a major project like this, the theological distinctives that attracted the original purchases should be held to."

The silence and lack of clarity from Logos is disappointing to their most faithful customers. Barrick’s commentary was my number one reason to buy the series. So, I have been waiting in vain for many years. I doubt may will be alive for a complete series. From now on, I will very cautious replacing my books and investing in Logos.
