Community Notes Are Going Away

I got an email stating community notes are going away. Was that a feature? If so, what else might be going away in the not so distant future?

And so it begins.

Yes, the only time I used them was when Logos for a couple of summers had synchronized working through a mobile ed class with a teacher. The fact that you have to ask if it was a feature says something about its frequency of use. Logos has been slowly deactivating its failed attempts for community-based features. I would expect topics (user created) to also be removed but I hope that the associated reading lists are retained. IIRC there may have also been an almanac feature that barely made it off the ground.
Note that the function of community notes can be done with a shared/collaborative notebook so the actual function is not being removed.

I hope Logos does not remove more features as they move to a subscription model.

This is unfortunate, as it was not a “rarely used” type of feature that I would expect to be discontinued. It is heavily used by my seminary, as well as many larger churches, and even small groups. I’m guessing there was a decline in use among church communities with the sunsetting of Faithlife’s church management platform, but for seminaries this is a big loss.
My fear is that some of these features that are very useful for a certain subset of the user base will be discontinued in order to put more developer resources towards the AI features. I can see community tags being next.

Community tags are safe as literally millions of them have been added by Logos itself. However, if the removal of community tags is detrimental to seminaries they should raise their voices and ask for reconsideration. Logos would listen to seminaries. However, I would expect that most seminaries will simply move to a shared/collaborative notebook to retain the functionality.

Mark actually announced this back in November of last year. He also posted within the thread that: “Community tags in the Library are a separate feature. That’s not going away.”

The two are unrelated - Ask the Author, Logos Assistant, the long deprecated Handout ... have all been removed recently. It is my opinion that they are actively working towards being able to make the core functions more stable and change the underlying architecture to be more adaptable.

The removal of Community Notes has nothing to do with the move to subscription and everything to do with wanting to focus our development efforts on the features that really matter to users. Community Notes predate shared notebooks, and for most people, shared notebooks are a much better option.
We’re adding all Community Notes into notebooks (which can be shared if desired), which will continue to be accessible with or without a subscription.

I just tested sharing notebooks from within the document menu. Looks pretty cool!
