Abbey Psalms & Canticles - why just a reader edition?

I'm glad to see that the Abbey Psalms & Canticles finally made its way into Verbum (after the USCCB purchased the rights to the Rev. Grail Psalms a few years back).

It was, however, disappointing to open it up to discover that this is just a Reader's Edition. It only has page number milestones, but no Bible Milestones for the Psalms and handful of OT/NT canticle texts...

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

Kevin, I'm sorry it has been a disappointing experince for you so far. The reason of why it is currently missing the bible milestones is that it requires a new data type (so you can scroll alongside your preferred Bible). The data type is ready and the resource can get its much needed bible milestones, I'd expect that to happen before the next recycle queue (May 7th).

what can you tell me about Abbey psalms in general?

It is the official translation of the psalms and canticles approved by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops for the Liturgy of the Hours. It is a revision of the Grail Psalms primarily in the sprung rhythm that is native to English speech - think Gerard Manly Hopkins. It seems to have been adopted with little opposition to the change which is a good sign.
