New Cambridge Bible Commentary

After many years of asking, volumes in the New Cambridge Bible Commentary series are starting to appear in pre-pub. The stand out volume for me listed so far is Craig Keener's volume on Acts.

From the publisher:
This volume is an abridged version of Keener's monumental, four-volume commentary on Acts, the longest and one of the most thorough engagements with Acts in its ancient setting........The original commentary cited some 45,000 references from ancient extrabiblical sources to shed light on the Book of Acts. This accessible edition, aimed at students, scholars, and pastors, makes more widely available the decades of research that Keener has devoted to one of the key texts of Early Christianity.
Even abridged it's still over 700 pages.
I'm also hoping to see the volumes on Genesis, Judges & Ruth, Matthew, Mark and Galatians and Philippians, for which I've seen good reviews.

Many other volumes have been listed too, but these were my priority buys.

All cheaper than Kindle. Looks like 48% off in pre-pub which makes them a pre-pub worth buying if of interest.

I am not sure why the volume on John, gospel and epistle is not being offered.
The Gospel of John (New Cambridge Bible Commentary) by Jerome H. Neyrey
The Letters of John (New Cambridge Bible Commentary) by Duane F. Watson
The Luke volume is one that I can do without.

There are a few missing volumes in the offering from Logos. I was hoping for the Judges/Ruth volume.

I’ll observe the “passover” on these. What worries me is the fact that more than one commentary will be an abridged version of a larger commentary, as in Keener’s case; especially if you already own the larger volumes. Maybe it’ll be great for those who don’t own Keener’s massive volume.

Keener's volumes on Acts and Galatians are abridgements, which is what interests me, as the longer ones are too detailed for my purposes. I'm not aware of any of the others being abridgements though.

My biggest fear with this series is that Logos will release them all at the same time. I've struggled to find many reviews on individual volumes. This might be because the series has a UK publisher, but most of the volumes are written by widely published authors of commentaries in other series.
Denver Seminary include every NT volume (except The Pastorals) being made available by Logos in their list of recommended intermediate commentaries - with some being their top recommendation.
Should Logos release every volume at the same time I'm going to have to reduce my order. I think I know which volumes to keep - and I know I could return volumes - but has anyone come across a site with in depth reviews? BestCommentaries doesn't really help here.
I came across this YouTube channel which helped a little
https://youtube.com/@pastorslibrary?
The following review endorses the Matthew and Mark volumes as top purchases - plus Denver Seminary give the Mark volumes its top rating
https://danielbwallace.com/2016/11/07/a-curators-guide-an-exploration-into-matthew-and-mark/
I found one decent review on the 1 Peter volume.

2 reviews of the Genesis volume

Nothing really on the Philippians and Galatians volumes (other than a short review on each by the YouTube reviewer).
I've pre-ordered 8 volumes and the pre-pub discount is very good, so I would really like to purchase all 8, but I can't afford to buy all 8 at once. The ones I'll definitely purchase if I have to cull are Matthew, Mark, Acts and Galatians. (I like the fact that the Acts and Galatians volumes are abridgements of Keener's massive technical commentaries on Acts and Galatians.) The others that I might need to cull are Genesis, Ephesians, Philippians and 1 Peter - of these 1 Peter gets the top recommendation from Denver Seminary, so might make the cut if all the volumes are released at the same time. I like the authors of the remaining 3 volumes I've ordered, but the Genesis volume is a little old, so the best insights may now be elsewhere, I know from his NT Introduction David DeSilva doesn't believe Paul wrote Ephesians, although that may not ultimately impact his exegesis and the Philippians volume gets a mixed review by the YouTube reviewer above.
I'll grateful for any online or personal reviews - especially of the 8 volumes I've mentioned.

The 3 books I'd particularly value any views on in this series are:
Matthew
Mark
1 Peter
Do they add anything of note compared to other mid level commentaries? I probably own all the mid level commentaries of note already available in Logos.
Whatever happens in terms of Logos releasing the series, the Acts and Galatians volumes are "no-brainers" for me.
I suspect the other volumes I've pre-ordered (Genesis, Galatians and Philippians) are less critical to my library of resources.

A review found for the Acts volume:

I'm still looking for more reviews on the Genesis, Matthew and 1 Peter volumes - in case Logos release the whole series in one hit, which would put buying 6 volumes out of my financial reach. I'm pretty settled on Mark, Acts and Galatians being wise purchases, but may have to allow all 6 prepubs to go through and return 2 or 3 within 30 days.

Thanks for bringing this up again. I've had my eye on the Keener Acts 4 volume commentary for a while, and didn't want to surrender to the abridgment. But good sense has overcome my stubbornness, and I can put a pre-pub order in for that, and maybe look at some others.

Keener's Acts and Galatians volumes appear to be no-brainers to me, precisely because they're abridgements of his longer commentaries on those books, because I wouldn't have the need for the additional content.
The Mark volumes appears to be a wise choice in view of the high regard for his massive Luke commentaries.
I like the look of Genesis, Matthew and 1 Peter but worry about the cost of they land at the same time.

You seem to really like Keener... he has another one in here under Corinthians

That one is very short because the writers weren't given as much space early on in the series; plus I need to prioritize which ones I purchased.

It would be nice to see this series make it out of production at some point. 😉🙏
