This is likely irrelevant as the copyright was probably retained by R.C. Bell or his estate. Authors usually sell specific rights like the right for the initial printing in a particular set of country.

Wow. 1985? Didn't know that. That was long after Bell died I believe.

Here is the biographical information on R.C. Bell (born 1877) who was a
Bible Teacher/Professor at Abilene Christian College (now University) in 1919:
Autobiography of R.C. Bell | The Cobb Six Sometime around 1916-1917 he
received his M.A. degree from SMU. Was at a Christian Collete in Texas in 1911.
He spent Fifty years of teaching Bible in eight different schools, located in seven different states.

He was still involved in public speaking until about 1959-1960. Passed away in 1964.
David Lipscomb (post Civil War) started Lipscomb University. He was still alive when R.C. Bell
was preaching and Teaching. Wasn't exactly a contemporary of Bell, but wrote several
commentaries covering most of the New Testament. Lipscomb was about 46 yrs older than Bell
when they were both alive at the beginning of the 20th century. Am going to create a LOGOS version
for his commentaries. Maybe just one book at a time. Don't know yet. What I do know is that
his works are in the Public Domain. Wrote his commentary on Acts in 1896 (1st edition). Here is
the free downloads in other formats. Won't be hard to convert to a .docx (LOGOS) format:

David Lipscomb (January 21, 1831 – November 11, 1917) was a minister, editor, and educator
in the American Restoration Movement and one of the leaders of that movement, which, by 1906,
had formalized a division into the Church of Christ (with which Lipscomb was affiliated) and the Christian Church.
David Lipscomb definitely was a predecessor of R.C. Bell. Lipscomb University in Nashville is named
after him. It was started several yrs before he died. I attended there in the early 1970's... Lipscomb
was in the publishing business several yrs before the Civil War began.

Please forgive me for rambling on. Being retired for awhile now, I spend a lot of time
walking the dog and now...creating bible study works, etc.... for LOGOS and church work.
So fortunate that my wife can still work a few days a week. Gives me time to create a few
books every week and prepare sermons for preaching. Been doing that for 50 years. The
preaching part that is.

Did a search on LOGOS for J.W. McGarvey who was a contemporary of
David Lipscomb. After the Civil War (not sure what yrs) McGarvey would
preach occsionally for a church that I worked with every week for 12 years.
In fact, when I left there in 2000, they built a new building and retained the
pulpit that McGarvey would preach from when he came from Lexington, KY
every month (horse and buggy days for sure). That congregation started as
a house church in 1842.

Now, I know his works are in the public domain. In fact, his Commentary on
Acts, and other works, are plastered all over the Internet. Surely no one would
raise an objection over his books. When I did my search on LOGOS.com couldn't
find any books for him. Got one "hit" for the College Press NIV Commentary and
that was it....

Well, whatcha know? I finally found some LOGOS books by McGarvey. Guess
I am going to have to scratch that off my list. Don't know why I didn't find those on
my first search. What is the best way to search for an author on LOGOS? I typed
in J. W. McGarvey the first time and got nothing. Typed in "McGarvey" and got
several hits for some of his books. Is it because I used his initials and not his full
name? Just wondering......

Well, like I just said, I am going to have to scratch that one off my list.
I am going to have to have those that are in Production. His sermons I
already have. In another format, but I also have them in Hardback.

Don't know why I couldn't find them on my first search on LOGOS.
Is it because I was on the wrong page? I was on the Home Page and
type in "J. W. McGarvey" in the Search Bar. Got nothing. Then went
back just now. Typed in "McGarvey" and got several hits.

Wonder why LOGOS didn't recognize his initials and last name?

That is the most likely reason. While we know him by the name he used (J.W. McGarvey,) he is listed as John William McGarvey in Logos.
