I was tempted to buy more books through the ALL search. I no longer use it. I search my books.

Shouldn't use of those books all be included in the monthly subscription? [:)]

It is not a chatbot for answering questions.

Then why is it called "Intelligence" ?

There are several kinds of artificial intelligence, some that have been in use for decades. Advances in chips (Nvidia) allowed the growth of LLM's (large language models) which power chatbots as well as other artificial intelligence applications. Logos is taking advantage of the AI apps most appropriate for use within Logos.

ALL searches the Logos catalog and gives results for books you do not own! Subscription only provides access to a selected number of books that you do not own i.e. ones you can download to Library, Search, read, highlight etc.

I am as serious as those who use a higher percentage of the app. So, L10 forever would be great.

Don't we already have L10 forever if we purchased it?

I apologise for jumping in here at page 64 and asking a dumb/obvious question. I only just found out about these changes. The OP states:

Logos Pro includes most of the Logos 10 Full Feature Set

I understand that existing users won't lose books, but do we lose functionality? I have invested in ancient ms. tools/datasets, and would hate to lose those kinds of features in Pro.

Logos licenses (including for features) are additive: when you subscribe to Logos Pro, you'll get access to everything in Pro that you don't already have, not be downgraded to only what's in Pro.

Any plans for Logos Pro to be able to search my sermons as well, the text of the document? Would be extremely helpful finding quotes and such I've used before. Sometimes searching just the title doesn't work. Not even sure it needs to be a Logos Pro feature, but with better search it would be nice.

Doesn't the search meet your needs?

I think I had a question about the subscription model: do we lose functionality? In other words, with products like Microsoft 365, I can not lose functionality if they go out of business or if there is no internet access. With Logos, there is functionality within the purchased product only available with the internet. Should Logos for whatever reason decide to withhold access there goes my purchase at least in part. I did not worry about that until now because I thought it like Microsoft it would last forever. Now with a subscription-only model I have some fear.

Claude, they've repeated over and over, what you buy is yours. Books and features. They use the term 'forever', though Mark used the term 'forseeable future' (which is a more honest appraisal).  A new owner can have their own policies (or current owners change their minds).

    But regarding subscriptions:

    - If you subscribed, it's as good as the subscription terms. Unlikely to just 'turn it off'. But they could end a plan, after a subscription completes. That's happened before.

    - But they are more likely to alter subscriptions and terms over time. This year's plan is this years plan. Next year, who knows. Prices, content.

    Claude,

Disclaimer: I am NOT part part of Logos so what I am going to say is speculation on my part but I think logical.

Any feature, subscription or not, that relies on an internet connection to access a Faithlife server in order to do its thing would necessarily no longer work if that server were no longer available. Assuming Logos ceased as a company and no one picked up the software to continue the business, then yes those (and only those) features that NEED access to Logos servers would no longer work.

An example of a "feature" that requires such access and is currently part of an L10 Feature Set (not under subscription) would be the Bible Browser.

Other "Features" that are owned outright and do not require a internet connection would continue to work as normal.

However, if one lives in the vicinity, one is more concerned with their business resumption plan for a major earthquake. Decades before Logos, Russian bombs were only slightly below earthquakes in disaster recovery. I would assume that Logos is a mature enough company to have well-off-site recovery plans. Earthquake study suggests the 'big one' could be much worse than expected - The Weather Network

I am a part-time minister who uses Logos for both my personal study and sermon prep. For awhile now I have been wanting to purchase the "Logos 10 Silver Feature upgrade." I am wanting to do so for some of the exclusive iPad features this enables in logos. There are also some interlinears and datasets included, which I am wanting.

The $300+ dollars is what has prevented me from making this purchase. Now I am wondering whether this is my last chance to get these features without having to enroll in an ongoing subscription model (which I prefer not to do).

So, will I lose the option to purchase these features if I don't do so now?

I have been wondering that too.

Internet based functionality could be a thing we lose.

My question is what happens if I don't subscribe and features get "upgraded" to the point that my one-year-old purchased feature hasn't really been deprecated, but doesn't work anymore because it's been upgraded.  I can't buy the upgrade, because it's, you know, internet dependent now. But I can subscribe to make my purchase work again. In 2-3 years, how many of my purchased features will still work because they have been upgraded?  Maybe someone will make a living inventing legacy feature crutches. Or maybe Logos will make sure legacy features still work.  Not that I expect that (imagine your own antecedent for "that")...but it's worth mentioning.

Mark has made clear elsewhere that there will be plenty of notice for users to purchase feature sets if they choose before they are cut off.  It is also possible that they will go on a final sale before you lose the opportunity.

Can you expand a little on this? I am an existing connect member. It sounds like there are a few features/datasets I currently have that are not in Pro. I would prefer to wait and learn more about the plans before switching but want to know what is meant by special price. If I wait will I be losing out on a special early-access price that will continue into the future or will I have similar pricing options when the final plans are announced?

That's a great question. We'll make sure that customers who follow our advice and wait until they hear more about our plans for Connect subscribers aren't disadvantaged.

So, customers who followed the advice given from Logos...what is the final plan for connect subscribers?

  • Mark
    Mark Member Posts: 2,636 ✭✭✭

So instead of fixing the broken/dead service of Logos Connect, you guys just add another service on top of the old one with the same price with LESS FEATURES?

    So.. Logos Connect $150 + Logos Pro $120 = $270 per year.

Is this where this company is going?

No, that's not where we're going.

The subscription that will launch later in the year will replace Faithlife Connect and Preaching Suite. So the future state is not Faithlife Connect + Logos Pro. Faithlife Connect will be going away. The future state is just Logos Pro or one of the other subscription tiers.

Right now, we're not ready with that subscription, so we can't migrate people from Connect to Logos Pro. But later in the year, once we've built out more features and have a migration plan in place, we will be moving customers from Connect to Logos Pro or one of the other tiers. So, right now, you can choose to stay with Connect or get both Connect and Pro. (Theoretically, you could get Pro and then cancel Connect, but we don't recommend it because you'd lose your perks and some features and books.)

But Connect+Pro is a temporary situation, only during the early access period.

So are we still suppose to wait if we have Connect and Pro?

My plan is to wait as I believe that is what they are saying. From what I can tell from above we won't lose out. Official confirmation would be nice though. I hope they come up with a plan soon though...

I am an early adopter of Pro, own Logos 10 feature set and was on Connect from month one. I am interested if my years of Connect qualify me for any further discounts than what is currently being displayed. We were told in the beginning of this transition to hold tight on the Connect transition. It would be nice to get an update.

I'm going to try to quote it...

Mine renews in November.  I know someone else has theirs renewing in August.  I guess this is my question.  I am not 100% sure how the process will work and Mark has not been very clear about it.  While it is okay for Mark not to know exactly how it will work, assurances from time to time are helpful.

What would happen if I cancel my FC Essentials annual subscription now and just upgrade to Max?  Would I be reimbursed for the 3 months I did not use FC?

At the risk of repeating myself, I am sorry that Connect subscribers are somewhat stuck at the moment. We are doing our best to get the migrations planned as fast as we can.

At some point between now and the launch, we will email existing Connect subscribers, giving a date for migration. In that email, we'll explain what you'll gain and lose (if anything) due to the migration. We will ensure we migrate the unused portion of your subscription, along with the 2% cashback you've accumulated.

If you cancel before that, I'm afraid we won't be able to reimburse you for the unused portion of your subscription, and you will likely lose any cashback you've accumulated.

  • Friends, peace and good. Please, for those who have already migrated, does AI support allow searches also in personal books and also in notes created by the user?

Mark, I've had Logos since 1995, when it was QuickVerse, and watched it develop over time. I use it everyday and am concerned with the subscription model and features; how much is lost if there is no Internet connection? Thanks for the great program that has been put together. I own the Silver Edition, Logos Full Feature Set. 😎

Logos was never QuickVerse, that was whole different company & software.

Here is an older message from Bob P. when he still owned Logos...

When we started there were lots of DOS programs, and soon many Windows ones... QuickVerse, Ask God, BibleWindows, GRAMCORD, Wordsearch, CDWordLibrary, Online Bible, PC Study Bible, etc.

Sorry, I worded it wrong probably. At the time, it was either bought out or purchased and rerouted to a few other companies, like WordSearch; which eventually ended with me owning a version of Logos.
