NEW FEATURE: New Factbook sections for a Biblical Person

Factbook now has several new sections for studying a Biblical Person. These new sections were previously available for studying a Bible Passage in Factbook.

  • People, Places, and Things (see previous post for this section on a Bible Passage).
    • The People view shows the relatives of the Person, and other people with whom the Person shares an interaction in a Biblical Event.
    • Places lists the settings of Events in which the Person participated.
    • Things are important items identified in the Person's Events.
  • Biblical Events is like the Bible Passage version of this section, but collects all the Events the Person participated in, including the "Featured" events from the Faithlife Biblical and Theological Lists datasets and books.
  • Reported Speech (previous post), similarly, shows Featured speech, and everyone the Person Speaks to or Hears from.

How to test

  1. You will need an active Logos subscription, or join the group Logos Pro (early access) Beta Features for a temporary beta testing license.
  2. Go to app.logos.com, open the Factbook tool, and load a report for a biblical person.

As usual, please report your general impressions and suggestions for the feature, as well any issues with incorrect data, performance, UI/UX problems, etc.

These sections are planned for release with Logos/Verbum desktop and mobile app versions 37.0, and will require a license for a Logos subscription

Thank you!

    Hi Adam

How does Logos determine the resource for the main article under the Theological section. Is there a way to prioritise that.

    1. I much prefer the Place implementation to the data being in "Dig Deeper"
    2. I wish for, but have learned not to expect, a key to the new icons ...
    3. Throughout, I would prefer it if the popup cut off just before the next entry i.e. only showed a single entry

    Hi, Anthony,

    Yes: We call these "lenses."

The main article for the Theological lens will either be the Lexham Survey of Theology, or an encyclopedia that we've tagged as a "theological dictionary," whichever is higher in your list of prioritized books. If you have prioritized a theological dictionary that isn't showing up in the Theological lens, please let me know, and I can probably fix that very quickly.

    Thanks Adam

I did not have any theological dictionary prioritised  and the Catholic encyclopedia has been showing up.I just added the Lexham Survey of Theology to the prioritisation list but nothing has changed.  I would be have with the Lexham resource.  I restarted Logos as well but to no avail. Is that something you can sort out then?

Antony, are you using the desktop app, or the web app? And which article / Factbook entry are you looking at?

I am looking at Peter the Apostle and it is the same in both the Desktop and  the  WebApp.  It also shows the same in any relevant entry I look at

That is expected for Peter the Apostle; there is no article for Peter (or any Biblical People) in LST, so it's using your next highest theological dictionary.

For desktop, I should also mention that there is a known issue that can result in the wrong resource being selected for key article when there is a mix of different data types. (If you don't already know what that means, it's not really important to understand; just that the result is that it can feel unpredictable which resource shows up for the key article.) This will be fixed in version 37.0.

I'm reading this (I hope not too self-charitably) as "I much prefer [the Place implementation] to [the data being in 'Dig Deeper].'" Thanks!

If it would be helpful, perhaps we could add a full icon legend to the forthcoming Help articles for these sections. In the meantime, each icon in the Featured view corresponds with the "kind" label following the title of the event ("Marriage," "Famine," etc.).

Good point. This is our standard keylink preview behavior throughout the app. There are other reasons we don't want the preview to cut off at the end-of-article in all scenarios, but that would make sense in this situation.

Thanks, I can wait for that.   I have noticed that if I prioritise a theological resource things changed but not in a consistent way.  It would show articles from the new resource for some characters but not for others and sometimes it would show another random theological resource but only for certain characters.

Thanks for addressing this question for me

Exactly - it is a big improvement.

I've forwarded this to the Customer Education team. In the meantime, here's a static image of an early version of the icon meanings for reference. Note that some of these (e.g., Prayers) ended up not getting used.

Thank you Adam. I tried to make the LST a top priority and choose to Factbook Justification but in desktop it would not show as the key article (MacBook). It does show using the web app though.
