BUG(?): Factbook doesn't offer AI summarise feature for dictionary entries

I'm not 100% sure if this is a bug as the release notes for the v38 update aren't out yet, but I note that we have the v38 desktop functionality of summarising Factbook commentaries now, and viewing are token usage - both greatly appreciated! But dictionary articles aren't offering this functionality yet and I wanted to check if this expected.

Apologies, just noted that some release notes for the iOS beta are up, but not the Android ones, which is my format.

I see, though, that the iOS beta notes don't mention the new functionality I do have now, mentioned above - not sure if the notes are simply incomplete or if the platforms are not quite in sync on this yet?

We accidentally missed the new Commentaries and Dictionaries section coming to mobile from the release notes. Thanks for letting us know. We'll get that corrected.

That is, in Factbook on v38 beta, you should be able to tap on the preview snippet of any book in the Commentaries or Dictionary section of Factbook and ask for a summary (assuming you have a subscription).

I thought so. As per my post above, it's not working for Dictionary entries yet on Android (v38 beta 1 & 2), but it's there for commentaries.

Hmm. It's working on iOS, at least for me. I'll ask someone on the mobile team to see if they can reproduce the problem on Android.

James, we are looking into this, but we can't reproduce it.

It works for me on Android, v38 beta 2 (screenshot below).
Do you see the "Group by" options, as in the screenshot?

Yes, I have the "Group By" options:

Commentary section below is fine for me.

I'm on beta 2, Android 14 device (OnePlus Open) and I get the same results (summarise button visibility) in both phone and tablet mode.

Ah, just checked out of curiosity and I'm getting the same issue on the web app too (beta.app.logos.com).

I'm a Pro rather than Max subscriber, if that matters?

Okay, I'm sorry for the confusion, but I think we have it figured out.

We think this feature is actually working for you, but it's a little hidden. Summarize in Commentaries and Dictionaries intentionally work slightly differently.

In Commentaries, Summarize always displays.
In Dictionaries, only displays on touch tap or mouse hover.

The reason for this difference is to be clear about what is being summarized -- in a commentary, the summarization is always of the full passage range, and thus the button is on the book header. Dictionaries may have more than one article on the same topic, so you have to tap the article to be clear that it's the one you want to summarize.

Ah, ok - yes, it works, but that difference seems wildly counterintuitive to me - why not just put it next to each article header listed so that the summarise button is visible to the right of the article title, so that it appears more consistent and visible?

We actually had a big internal debate about this. Part of it is that we are in the middle of evolving some consistent patterns, and the design in Dictionaries matches what we do for search results "Summarize" in the Search panel.

We don't plan to change it for this release, but we do appreciate that feedback, and we'll take it under advisement.
