Totally agree. To add to this, you should be able to set whether you want resources to open full-screen or just half of the screen with a blank layout.
Open first resource on the LEFT, not the right

When one's layout is blank and one opens a resource, it ALWAYS opens on the right side of the screen. I ALWAYS want it to open on the left side of the screen. It would be great if the option to have it open on the right side existed.

Personally would like left to right language resources default reverting back to "LEFT" side (years ago) with right to left language resources defaulting to "RIGHT" side.0

As you usually want more than 1 resource, why not open FIRST the one you want on the RHS, then open the one you want on the LHS?0

@Nathan M Hall You can revert to full screen from the Layouts menu (first tile at top) after opening the first resource.0
