Explicit References to External Texts in the Bible

Thanks for sharing that there are factbook articles on external texts, Sean! That was very helpful. I'd like to see this idea expanded further than the original requester, though. One thing that I've often wanted (and at times worked on trying to create) is a "true cross-references" set of cross references. The Bible is, like any good scholarly work, full of citations, quotations, and allusions both to internal texts in the anthology, and to external texts (whether still extant or not). I dream of having a resource that lists all of these. But what would be even more wonderful, because it's possible in Logos, is to then have that resource linked to your bible, so that you could see while reading "oh, this is a quotation from Deuteronomy, and has also been mentioned in these other 3 passages of the Bible." If you do work on a list of external references, I'd ask that you pretty please consider going all the way, and help the average reader find ALL the references. It shouldn't blow the average Bible reader's mind, for instance, that when "the armour of God" is referenced in Ephesians 6, it's alluding to the fact that God Himself put on a breastplate of salvation and helmet of righteousness in Isaiah 59 as part of what He dressed in for battle, and that there's a context for Ephesians 6 in Isaiah. Nor should it be something that a Christian needs to study 10 years to stumble across and learn that the two greatest commandments come from the Shema in Deuteronomy and Levitical law. Yes, pretty please do create a really useful resource/dataset/cross-reference which shows us just how wonderfully scholarly the Bible truly is in its Citations, quotations, and allusions! You Logos folks are great! I'm so glad that you've worked so hard to provide us with the many wonderful tools you already have at our fingertips!
