I find it annoying clicking to open footnotes. Can we get a reading view which has a section at the bottom of the panel showing the footnotes in that panel at that time, updating as you scroll?

  This can be done by enabling "paged view" (in the resource panel, set Columns to anything except "None") and enabling "Show footnotes on page".
